Only thing that's bugging me while playing are the stupid voice effects from your character, the anime sounds are too grating for me (especially the female characters). I hope they change it for the NA and Europe release. Otherwise I'm having a lot of fun in the game.
Actually, thats been fixed with the lastest korean patch. 90% of the voices can be toggled off/on
Which brings up my next question. If this is a beta test and Koreans are playing with version 1.2 and 1.2 is the version that we are supposed to get, why are we testing the same version 1.02 as on the Chinese servers?
It is quite possible that 1.02 needs to be ironed out before 1.2 gets implemented.
And yet 1.2 is currently live in S. Korea?
Edit: just to expand a bit, 1.02 is the same exact version that I am playing in the Chinese servers. The only difference is that this version is translated into English. Something that I was able to do to the Chinese version by adding a certain file.
Why are we previewning/testing the old version when we are supposed to get the latest version?

Isn't 1.1 + 1.2 supposed to be the ironing on top of 1.02?
My guess would be that they haven't completed the translation for 1.2 yet; 1.02 is already translated and they are currently working on rewriting/correcting some of the text, the 1.2 text will probably follow when this is done.
Now of course the question remains: the game has launched 7-8 months ago, why is it taking so long?
I can't believe that someone is complaining about one side being simular to the other side lol and then your only focus and exp is from 1-10...an area I spent 1 day in and havent been back to since!!
If you want to play a game designed for the mindless, that's your choice.

No idea but didn't they just reassign the CEO of NCsoft ? Chris Cheung to NCsoft Korea's Jaeho Lee , perhaps Mr Cheung didn't get the ball rolling fast enough ? Shortly after that NCsoft pushed up NA/EU plans for Aion.
"Now of course the question remains: the game has launched 7-8 months ago, why is it taking so long?"
Generate hype, make sure the translation is smooth, figure out how many servers they might need, "westernize" the game whatever that means really.

It's like saying that since in WoW's TBC you could fly anywhere, the game has no restrictions. Which is absolutely not true because until you reach level 58 (minimum level needed for quests in TBC) you're restricted by impassable mountains.
One thing I have to give to Blizzard: not once have I ran into an invisible wall while I was leveling my characters. Having impassable mountains is one thing but having perfectly passable terrain and an invisible wall, that's like lazy."
never played WOW so i dont know what a TBC is, but you say that the abyss is just one part of the game... i estimate it to be about 70% of the game.
i think the op has described about every single mmo i ve ever played in its early levels . i dont know what this game is like beyond that point . the most important thing is neither does the op .
warcraft itself really only offers asian grind type quests in its early levels . it could be argued that since they impimented faster leveling that warcraft now offers asian grind till level 60 these days given that on most servers its nearly impossible to get grouping within the mid game leaving you only solo options .
Is it just me or is the Asmodian areas and quests deja vu from the Elyos? Let see... 1. I did few quests around a handful of NPCs. 2. Then I wound up at a village. OK, did that in the Elyos area. 3. Then I was sent on a few quests near a lake. OK, that the same thing that happened for my Elyos char. Hmmm. 4. Then I wound up doing quests in a forest. Hey! that's what happened next in the Elyos areas! If this isn't a perfect example of cookie-cutter MMO, I don't know what is. Same areas, different textures. Same quests, different NPCs and mobs. If they can't even build variety in levels 1-10, what the hell is 50 going to look like? I'm thinking this should be a F2P game.

Even tho the voice previews aren't available while creating your character, the choice will show up ingame. Choose the second voice if you want a more "western-like" grunt.
Almost every mmo at low levels is pretty dull and boring.
And that makes it acceptable? Because everyone else is doing it? Reason #1 why the MMO industry is in such a sad state.
Why play a game that is god awful boring when you first buy it? I want nice compact storytelling, introduction into the world and combat gameplay, primer on crafting and social connections. I don't want developers dropping me in a zone...and that is it. Blah.
I thought this game was pretty much complete overseas? So Beta testing is just for the overall transfer to a "western model" of gaming and translations. Am I right?
He is right, I pretty much can see where a game is going during the first 10 levels and I make up my mind. I personally just cannot get into EVE...It is just not for me. I know millions love it and I really have nothing bad to say about EVE at all. It is just not for me.
Aion is not for me. I would rather play Free Realms (and that is torture) then another run of the mill fantasy game.
The first thing I look at are graphics, then character custimization, then combat game play, then quest development and storyline, finally freedom of exploration and sandbox qualities...if it dosn't fit...I am history. After I make my decision I do like to follow the development of a game just to see what the changes are and how long it takes for the hype to wind down.

As in any mmo that you play..
I will chime in and say LotrO and AoC are the only 2 games that I've played that actually put some real thought into the first few seconds of a new characters attendence in the game world. AoC has the whole ship wreck thing, and LotRO did 4 different tutoeial instances , one for each race, all unique, after that you either in Archet or Thorin's hall area, then after that , instance you are sent to your corresponding races start area and into the game world. No one of the areas are deju vu for any race, and the only thing that would be similar for some is beginning the chapter book until every race pretty much meets in bree and goes from there.
In Aion, your like a peice of bird poop that just go crapped out with 20 other turds , felt very generic and not something that really caught me and said , wow , I just spawned like a piece of crap on a sidewalk. THe over feel of the Aion start area was completely generic and unthought out, with very little of anything to draw you into the world and "want" to find out more.
Seriously can't wait for the X-play review
AOC and LOTRO take your character and give you a nice introduction to your character....it's great stuff. Didn't like the hobbit area in LOTRO but it was put together nicely, Elf area very nicely put together, Humans have a good story and I do love the dwarves.
Vanguard...while some of the player races are pretty lost ...some are downright good if you like reading .....the cat race has an interesting starting zone as well as the goblins....the goblin introduction is some great stuff...."Slaughter the entire town, Kill the humans!" I love it. The Dark Elf starting area is intriging to say the least.
Aion...i am sure many are saying it is because of beta...(believe me it isnt)....starts you off with a bunch of anime goofballs and point you at a generic quest....end of story.
The more I'm playing, the more similarities I'm noticing with other NCSoft games. A couple of observations (now at lvl 11).
1. The backdrops look and have that same uneasy perspective that the ones in GuidWars do. They feel like curtains off in the distance that are not really part of the environment.
2. I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but if you strip away the Asmo hair and facial hair, the character skins look REALLY similar to the orcs in Lineage II, right down to the metallic sheen on ther skin.
I'm guessing they muist be using some of the same graphic designers from those other games.
I've noticed some similarities as well, they don't bother me though. Only issues I've run accross (other than the screen freezing I've talked about before) was in the ascension quest. For some reason there the enemies wouldn't load up for me and I must have spent almost a minute without being able to target the last guy to kill.
I've noticed some similarities as well, they don't bother me though.
The similarities don't bother me either. I acutally like the look of the orcs in Lineage II -- much better than the way other games portray them -- as bright green hybrids of a muscle-bound health fanatic and a sabretooth tiger with a serious underbite.
If one of these things is not like the other...say one of these things just isn't the same...if one of these things is not like the other....can you tell me its name?
It's better to lurk in forums and be thought a fool...than to endlessly "Quote" and remove all doubts.
