LOL!!!! OMG, that's the first thing that came to my mind the first day I heard about a game called "World of Warcraft" ... I said to myself "Warcraft? But why not Diablo?"
I mean already people on Battle.net have turned Diablo 2 into a MMORPG style game. Players created their own kind of economie thanks to items, it had that MMORPG feel... but instead Blizzard went and turned a RTS game into a MMORPG. I guess because Warcraft had so many different races, that gave them the opportunity to make a MMORPG out of it. But even then. Diablo had such a better story, which is why I would of much prefered a Diablo MMORPG.
I mean think about it, instead of just making Diablo 3 an offline RPG with multiplayer, imagine if:
***SPOILER*** (I wrote Spoiler for the minority who actually didn't finish Diablo 2.. oh and BTW, SHAME ON YOU!!!!!)
When Azrael actually "saves" or "fails" to save the world from destruction... what happens? Blizzard made an ending that can allow a trilogy to one day come. Because no one knows if the world was destroyed or if Azrael actually did manage to save us all.
So imagine this, they make Diablo 3 a MMORPG, where everyone can become their own hero to try and stop the next evil, which could be Diablo's ressurection or maybe Baal returns or whatever... just something that takes place in the Diablo storyline.
It would of made more sense.
Bah, I say they should of kept Warcraft as a RTS game... even if WoW is a huge success.
I would have loved to see Diablo as a MMORPG, its almost there any how.... well the community base is, its a small world, set on maps, a mmorpg a huge world set on one huge map,
the race classes could be updated and so on Diablo 3 would be a fitting setting as a MMORPG.
a Diablo MMORPG would be awesome... bassically just take the best of Diablo 2 (which is pretty much everything) and make it a full MMORPG... of course they would need a few more things such as more classes, better customization, slightly larger skill trees, larger world... but after that it's pretty much set... they could even keep all the old items/monsters and such (but add a bit more in the process)...
they could even keep the 2D iso graphics and it would be awesome...

I think guild wars is too Light and the graphics look to anime to be likend to Diablo. If blizzard made Diablo online, i would rather see it more traditional mmorpg style in terms of servers, more than the way guildwars has set it up.
Whatever happen to a Starcraft MMORPG? I mean come on. Perfect for a MMO. You alreeady have three races and plenty of stuff to add to make it suitable.
I would have loved to see a new diablo, i loved warcraft as a RTS but i dont care how big of a hit its gunna be, they should have left it as RTS.
They could have done some really interesting things in the way of PvP, when i look for a game i look for PvP and graphics...diablo 3 could have satisfied both of those for me.
Of course they will make an MMORPG out of the Diablo series! The only relevant question no that is, will it be Diablo III or Diablo IV?
Personally I wouldn't mind seeing it as Diablo III, except, of course, that an MMORPG has no ending. I'd say, make Diablo III.. advance the story.. make the setting perfect, and then release Diablo as an MMORPG... and you know what? You can either choose to be a hero, or you can choose to be a deamon ... that'd be cool. Some PvP that'd be, hehehe.
See it this way, WoW is a test ground for MMORPGs for Blizzard. Once they know how to build the perfect MMORPG (you could argue they already did,) they will make one Diablo style!
I dont know how people can compare Guildwars to Diablo... Diablo is all about going out and destroying wave after wave of enemies, with fairly simple gameplay. Guildwars is more about grouping and strategy. The very first time I heard about WoW, before there was any information on gameplay, I was praying they use diablo style gameplay in the WoW universe. I wanted WoW to be more action oriented and going out and taking on 5 mobs at a time... but instead we got the same old thing... boo! I would love to see a diablo MMORPG!
In case you didnt know...the programmers that made diablo/diablo2 quit blizzard and are the ones who created guild wars (the company named arenanet), that is probably why it is being compared to them. To me, it does have kind of the same overall feel to it also, and the graphics are extremely similar. On to the question, i really dont think diablo would make a good mmorpg, it just doesnt have enough "content" for lack of a better word. I would have loved to see a starcraft type though, that was one of my favorite all time games, and i think they could do a lot with it.
Children In Back Seats Cause Accidents. Accidents In Back Seats Cause Children.
diablo has better characters than warcraft, i always thought warcraft was sort of cheezy. but reguardless, WoW is an amazing game. and yes i do believe diablo mmo would be a better seller than warcraft mmo.
Think that there are a lot of single player games that would make perfect MMORPGs. But diablo don't think it will realy make it. There aren't enough classes there are even no different races to it. And how would you put up a pvp settings? Giving control to demons would be very difficult to balance out. That is also the reason they didn't let you play the burning legion in WC3. And for that spoiler, thoughed the end was clear :P

"If all magic fails, rely on three feet of steel and a strong arm"
I would like 2 have a diablo ( III, IV, V.....whatever....;) ) mmorpg or even a mmog....just for the game itself... WoW comes near, but the feeling of holding the fate of mankind by slaughtering the "hell"..... And not at least, the game itself was technically very well....instead of the most games in the past... The item management and the gameplay as well - fast and furious - I love it!!!
Pls Blizzard come together and do it again!!! ) ( it is not easy to deliver better work than Diablo2 - but u can?! )
Nobody ever say that in Diablo the players experience even 10% of the surface of the world...
It would have been a free card to do almost what you want outside of the human race and a few settlements.
And for the Gods and all, well, we see the perception of the humans, that dont mean that others Gods dont exist, they are passive and they dont interfere with the humans part of the world, but that is about all what it mean (and no humans feel they are dangerous enought to care).

I dont see a problem with this, it would be easy to implement new classes even races to the game. PvP could be set up classic good vs evil, Humans siding with dark lords for gain ect ect.
Actually my first reply to this thread was kinda dissing WoW. But when you actually play WoW, you realize it's much more... and if you play an Undead, you're in a dark gothic world.
So in the end, the world of Warcraft itself has a lot more content to offer cause you can visit a dark world if you want, a green world of the Night-elves, a normal fantasy world of the Humans & dwarfs, a desert world of the Orcs, a jungle world of the trolls and so much more.
Diablo MMORPG would end up being dark everywhere... which could become repetitive when you think about it. Blizzard is smarter than all of us... all hail Blizzard and their creativeness for doing a Warcraft MMORPG instead of Diablo MMORPG

i think they call it guild wars
A Diablo based MMO would be quite interesting...
In the meantime, I think I will wait for Guild Wars.
The Best thing about the future is that it comes only one day at a time.

Playing EQ II at the moment. HOWEVER if they had made Diablo into a MMORPG I would be there in a second. I could never get into the World of Warcraft.
Diablo 2 was basically the first ever game I multiplayed, for a long time too. I loved the item system in it, I wish EQ2 would have it like that.

As long as they keep hardcore mode then it would be NICE! That feature alone would seperate a Diablo 2 MMORPG from all other MMORPGs!
(Not have every character hardcore mode, but allow players to choose it or not.)
SWG chickened out thanks to LucasArts forcing SONY to scrap their hardcore mode plans.

The Diablo universe was lacking a great deal of racial diversity. The Warcraft Universe answered this. It was a natural conclusion.
