I thought I would add that I think NMs should make a return. They were a lot of fun and my Bro and I bonded a lot hunting them. People hate on them but you can't make everyone happy! Maybe if they made the NMs instance based that would make them easier on casual players. That way you don't have to camp one for hours on end, hoping for a claim!
Some people like NM's, some don't. With that being said, SE shouldn't instance them for lazy foggots who think they deserve everything that everyone has. If you want the item, camp the NM. I've played FFXI since 2004, and I have hardly ever fought regular nms (I fight HNM's now cause my LS does, but I don't really camp them).
NM's are on a timer to limit the amount of drops it will produce and let into the world. Killing an nm, is supposed to net some nice/rare armor. Sure, some of the lower level NM's this isn't the case, but some of the higher ones it is.
I don't have an emp pin, or lizzie boots, etc, cause I am a lazy faggot who doesn't care. I believe the ppl who camped them deserve to be the few that have them (or the few that made some good gilz selling them).
I did, however have to camp that ying yang robe NM....that was a pain in the ass, with all that competition. But, I love my YYR, and it was worth the 25+ days it took me to get it.

I am 0 for fuckilostcount on Leaping Lizzy's shoes. I am torn in reguards to NMs. I don't have hours and hours to spend camping things anymore and I can't stay focused enough to actaully do it if I did have the time. I'd like to have items be exculsive so you don't have person X camping nonstop and just reselling, but I'd like so be able to buy them for when I have enough money and I give up on camping. I'd like like to see the drop rates increase by a lot, but I don't want to see the market become flooded with things that peoepl eventually don't ever want.
It is a hard balancing act and glad i'm not making the decision.
"fuckilostcount" .... is that in base ten?
That said...
I hope they do keep rare mobs in the game.. It adds a sense of, I dunno... "mystique"? to the world. Something unknown that the player(s) have to discover for themselves. I'd love to see NMs actually be a bit more "unique" in that, their appearance is more different than just being larger than a normal mob of their type. Maybe slightly different coloration... something to set them apart. Also, I hope they spawn over a wider area, not just in one little pocket of a given area.
That said.... as for what loot they drop...
I think the drops should make hunting them worthwhile and the stats should be suitable to the effort required to acquire it. They should def. be rare/ex (no need to wonder if RMT will bot/monopolize the NMs to control the market on the items; we already learned that from FFXI). However, in response to those who might say "yeah but that's not fair, I dont' want to, or don't have the time to spend camping those for that item"... Well... then perhaps you weren't meant to get it?
I'm in the same boat.. I don't have any interest in camping Leaping Lizzy, or VE, or Argus, etc. etc. I'd rather spend the time doing other things. However, I don't think that means leaping boots should be any easier to get. I also don't think they're "necessary" for me to play or enjoy the game. They're the reward for those willing to put in that time to acquire it. A "trophy item"; not a required one. That's how I see them. I dunno... the whole "it shouldn't be as difficult to get the items because I can't or don't want to camp them", or "I don't enjoy hunting them, so they shouldn't be in the game", just seems a bit self-centered to me. The game is not all about "me" or "you" or any one other person. Because I'm not willing to spend the time camping a NM doesn't mean others who are shouldn't be rewarded for it. Just kinda rings of "gear envy" to me. -shrug-
But anyway... my two cents.

On the minigame front, I wish they would've made Chocobo Racing in FFXI, more of an actual racing experience. That would've been awesome if they would've made that a competitive racing simulation with head to head vs players.
I don't know how long you played FFXI, but, everyone doesn't quite look the same the higer you get. Sure, armor variety is nice, but it's not the end all be all. The more time they spend in desiging armor, the less time they spend in other areas, so, be careful what you ask for.
Same drab zones...lol. With 20 jobs, you can't make a different zone for every level tier, for every distinct zone, in a detailed 3D setting. That would take an exceptional amount of time, and resources. You ask alot.
And finally, the stat boosts, while small in ffxi, is much better than huge chunks. Don't need the game to turn into an arms race, or that the equipment makes the player, not the skill. Plus, with smaller stat boosts, endgame can still be more balanced, than, say in WoW.
A +1 or +3 stat in FFXI is similar to a plus {insert an ungodly huge number for no reason here} like other MMOs! Smaller #s are much better and more manageable.

Totally agree. Plus, 400-1k agility, is purely insane as well. Those high numbers would force the endgame to be segreated by the gear the character has. He already complained about being segreated by subjob, now he is asking to be segreated by gear as well. Can't understand that,
- All I need kept is the ability to have one character be all my classes - 1 rep grind is beyond words in time savings. No alts, just mules = pure win.

ya'll pretty much hit most of the good points to change and dont change. I just hope they dont over hype it, and just expose it, as from my personal expierance anygame that was overly hyped was either a let down OR not a bad game but not what it was hyped to be. I very much enjoyed my time in FF11, the only reason I left was because of the population drop, for me its nice to see areas alive/active in game, and when you log on and theres like no one around, tends to take away FOR ME at least. Cant wait for FF14.

Wouldn't actually say that was cause of population drop. More of, population relocation. My server used to average around 4k users 24/7, back in 04 (about 6 months after US launch). Now, the server sports around 2k ppl 24/7. Sure, half the ppl are gone, but there are still plenty of ppl around. The lower level zones aren't packed (same with other mmos). But, some of them are because they still are vital camp sites. It's nice that it's not overcamped these days.
WoW SE is seriously stupid in the head, they ruined FFXI by introducing solo into a PARTY based grind game...that completely %^$^$^$%#$ up the ENTIRE leveling point..
now if they get rid of solo in XIV, it'll be like FFXI before it was ruined, but a bunch of WoW Q.Q nubs will be crying their eyes out and slitting their wrists b/c you cant solo in a party game.
keep: almost everything
add in: maybe some quests for minor exp/gil?

#1 Change absolutely has to be that horrid, most awful ever, couldn't possibly be any worse, "UI". Does it even qualify as a UI anymore??? If SE had at any point decided to improve the UI I would have a sub right now, no doubt.
#2 Change would be making it more "player friendly". The 40min runs from one town to the next, likey to die and have to try again, or grinding gil just to gain 5, OMG FIVE! more bag slots, only one word for it, sadistic.
I've no doubt that SE will make those changes anyways, but I absolutely don't want them to "wowify" it anymore then that.
Must keep it a group based game, there are way more then enough soloable games out there where you can get away with being anti-social or just a plain ahole to everyone you meet, FF is different and it's different because of the fundamental mechanics of the game that basically force people to be nice to each other to progress. If SE doesn't understand this or alters FFXIV in a way that doesn't maintain this game defining feature I'm going to be more then a little sad... IMO beastmaster is plenty enough soloability for an FF mmo.
Keep NMs. Adds plenty of excitment and another dimension to the game. I know that it also creates some issues with bots/gil sellers and so forth but lets not axe a FUN part of the game and instead work on ways to stop the bots or other creative ways of allowing everyone to get their shot; say something like limits on how many times a single player can claim a certain mob in a period of time.
However, Japanese society are masochistic. So a sadistic design really suits them just fine. LOL
Well I suppose there are enough masochistic people that love this game including me. If FFXI was easier it just wouldn't be as good, it is sad but rather true.
As to what I want to see changed or kept, I don't really care. I view each game as individuals, not sequels or the so called "clones" which doesn't even exist logically speaking.
As I always believe, you gotta play it know if you like it when it comes to games.

Thank you for that post! I am starting up FFXI again. Mainly to get my girlfriend some background so we can try out FFXIV next year. Your post was a great summary for me of new things to look for!
One thing I would like to see changed is the item/inventory system. In FFXI, you ended up with a lot of stuff you needed to hold on to. So much stuff that it forced most to make mules just to hold on to all of it. That was made worse by the fact that each new character you made cost you money. Personally, I think they planned it that way which I find somewhat devious.
The ability to expand my inventory/item slots as much as I want is what I want to see. Be by quests rewards and/or by game money. You could even craft your own backpacks...that would end the gobbies' monopoly in the bag business.
Full voice acting (yeah I know its not going to happen) Can FFXIV please not crash when exiting full screen? Why does FFXI still do this?
Cause of stupid a$$ Playonline........
Because of players that don't keep up with release notes, and realize that FFXI doesn't do that anymore if you play in Windowed Mode, or use the Windower Program! This hasn't been an issue for over 4 years.
I definitely want the real traveling with traveling times aboard airships, boats, etc. I really liked that aspect of FFXI. Travel times made it feel a lot more like a real world.
I think an easier questing system is in order ( knowing where to go next and who to talk to). Also I would like to see the loading between world and towns (buildings?) to be removed. I played on the ps2 and then the 360 and neither had a good UI system, I think a personalized UI wouldn't be to much to ask for.
But change the ridiculous amount of time needed to get a party together, ie traveling or finding specific jobs.
I agree the one thing thing id like to see changed is making it easier to get an xp pt together. I honestly dont know how to do that though. Its easy for us to sit back and say stuff like this but getting it implemented is tricky.
Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore) Now Playing: N/A Worst MMO: FFXIV Favorite MMO: FFXI
There are so many responses of "change the ridiculous amount of time to make a party" how long has it been since any of you have played or have you even played and are just copying what others have told you.
Even before the Level Sync it wasn't hard to ask other players to make a party, if you just stood there with seek on and waited for them to contact you then thats your fault! You could still ask anyone regardless of lvl if they had a job around the party lvl you had going, too see if they were willing to play it again...you'd of been surprised how many decided too switch over to a job they thought wouldn't get played again.
You also can't blame the language barrier, even though it could use a heavy update to make it easier to use with better options, it functioned well and worked. There are also countless Romaji sites that give you tons of ways to communicate with the JP players...most of whom are very patience and understood that you were trying to communicate with them and praised you for trying!

CHANGE
Cause of stupid a$$ Playonline........

KEEP THE PARTY SYSTEM AND GREAT COMMUNITY FEEL!
Best part of the game right there.
Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)
Now Playing: N/A
Worst MMO: FFXIV
Favorite MMO: FFXI
