Solution is having no boss in public. Only in instance or for quest, but that's it. Then all the mob has even way to drop anything in the public areas.
One problem with messing with the pop time from 24hrs. Is that with a 24hr or even a 12 hr you could estimate when it would show. If it was a 16 hr timer then if you where out of the loop for a week (heck even 3 days) it could get VERY confuzing on when it was going to show. And then you would have to cordinate with someone who has been camping/keeping record. You could supliment this "possibly" with a record on the FFXIV web site that show's the pop times for them this week....but then your "exluding" people that don't get online alot....
(Of course if your not online alot why the hell are you playing a mmo)
Wait why is it a problem if someone looses track of the pop times for HNM or NM in general? Because it gives someone else a chance to get it? NM and HNM are meant to be enjoyed by everyone. They are not supposed to be easy or handed to you by telling you exactly when they pop...total randomness is the best way to go about with NM and HNM. People with more time in their hands will no doubt come across more NMs which is JUST LIKE IT SHOULD BE.
What would be the point of a NM or HNM that you couldn't find? would be lame.
Think about it from the hunter: Man I really want this gear that drops from the NM......hmm i'll go look for it. Not only is it a random spawn....but it could happen ANY time of the day, So instead of having to wait a hour...or even 3 hours....or even wait 8 hours.... Now you have to wait 24HOURS!.....and you might miss it because its somewhere in the zone!
now here is the perspective of the random dude: "Wow i'm huving fun level, only 1k more XP to go...its 3:00in the moring....{NM spawns, kills player because he is to low of a level or by himself}....Fine he's dead..whatever. Then he logs in teh next day at 6 in the evening.....goes to level again, BLAM spawns kills him.
See what I mean? having at least a set time that it spawns makes it WAY diffrent....
I say keep them like they are, except change it so they can't be botted. I think SE has gone in the right direction with the two new HNMs. Not gonna be able to bot Ixion, since you have to have the stygian ash, and you have to track his ass down (he can spawn in mutliple zones). Also with the sandworm. I think they should probably make all the HNMs in ffxiv have various spawn locations instead of fix spots, and possibly have an item to claim them. I myself don't like camping much, but I do it to help the ls. Some of them love the crap. But, it is a great feeling to get the mob and defeat it, and know that you are the only group for the next 24 hours (sometimes longer) that will get to kill that monster. AND NO DO NOT INCREASE DROP RATES. Don't need another wow, and I firmly believe that everybody doesn't deserve everything. If everyone had everything, would it mean anything? Like the old fashioned city of heroes complaint...if everyone is a heroe, are there really heroes?
I agree with this bit in blue.
Even being someone myself who never cared to spend much time camping NMs - I dont' have the patience to spend hours waiting for something to spawn, and would rather be doing something else - I hope they do keep rare world spawns and drops in the game. Even if I'm not one of them, there *are* players who enjoy that kind of thing. If a game is intended to appeal to more types of players, then why should they be left out?
The selfishness of people who believe anything that they wouldn't want to do is "bad" and therefor should either be changed to suit them, or shouldn't exist in the game at all never ceases to amaze me; as though the game is only supposed to entertain *them*, and no one else matters.
Don't want to spend the time camping for a rare spawn? Simple: Don't do it. Just accept that the reward isn't worth the time you'd have to put in to get it, and move on. Find something else that is more appealing to you, and do that instead. I'm sure XIV will have plenty to do.
I really don't like the homogenizing going on in MMOs where everything is becoming "more accessible" for everyone... It's killing the sense of "value" and achievement in acquiring/achieving rare or difficult goals, and it's leaving those who do enjoy having to put a bit more effort into achieving them with a less interesting game.
In my opinion, it's part of why more people seem to be finding each new MMO that comes out, following that trend, to be more and more derivative and boring. There *should* be content that's more difficult to get, and that isn't "accessible to all casual players".
The idea that there's something in the game that I want, but that is going to require some serious time, effort and likely more than a couple attempts to get is awesome to me. It keeps the game interesting, because there's always that something (or many somethings) that I have yet to do, or acquire... And even if I have no interest in going for them now, I still have that option going forward.
So... I hope they keep rare spawns. I hope they have their spawn locations more spread out across an entire area, rather than one small pocket of it and I hope those rare spawns have a chance to drop rare items that you can't easily acquire otherwise. Though, an alternative way, like the BCNMs in FFXI wouldn't be bad... it's still a challenge to get them, but at least you don't have to camp anything.

Very well said, we think alike! I love that there are tons of items in FFXI that only a handful of players have. It keeps the entire experience fresh and unique as not everyone is, can, or will be the same ever! Which is quite a huge complaint these days of everyone looking the same and having the same things...
I like how in FFXI in this years census that even though there are 2.35million characters active currently and probably millions more total over the past 7 years of service. That there have only been 3,245 players that have ever acquired a final stage Relic item, and there have only been 43 Mythic Weapons forged across all worlds! This is an extreme example, but I like things like this that are almost impossible to get and make select players truly stand out...
I just hope that they'll make the rare items in FFXIV rare in a way that isn't so boring. "Collect 100million gil and the weapon is yours!"
Maybe make it so like 10~15% of the endgame players can get the item in few years, and not just 1%. That way the content would be more accessable for wider audience, too. I don't mind working hard for some leet item, but at least make it mildly interesting process!
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

Heheh indeed. I think it's awesome when someone I see has a fully upgraded relic weapon, because I think "man, what they had to go through to get that...".
I know there are others who see that and think "man that's an awesome weapon but it's not fair that it's so difficult to get, and they should make it easier so anyone can get it"... And, personally, I think that rises out of gear envy or, more appropriately, "pixel envy" - though the relic WS's are nice.
Again... I hope they do keep those really rare items in the game.

Yeah, players like that should just quit, and never plays MMOs again!
