Personally, I'm glad they are waiting months (and charging a fee which will most definately be much smaller than purchasing a new license) before they allow EU server players to transfer their characters to NA.  That means that people, like myself, will have a fresh start and have a foot hold on the NA servers without everything already taken or people already having well established guilds and the game's server dictated.
This, overall (even if presented poorly by Tasos) is something I WANT AND I LIKE!
So, in the end, I'm giving Adventurine a B+ for this move.

    Yeah, we've heard it before...

Let us know how you feel about it the second week of October.

I'll still be here, as long as mmorpg.com is around.  You may have noticed that very few ardent supporters of DarkFall from Release are still around and playing the game.

Anyway, good luck on the NA server.  I hope you get exactly what's coming to you.

A minor adjustment and this is somewhat my answer to Dethnoble

    Iiii-iiiiiit's.... me!!! *Hooray*

There are several options like throwing cender blocks at cars but most of them boil down to two options
    1. play the game.
    2. not play the game.
If out of all the things on the planet to be principled enough about people find this specific one so horrific that they would perfer not to have fun playing a game they like, then I guess it is what it is.

He didn't lie and he hasn't reneged on promises (unless there are other quotes I can't find), which was one of the points I tried to make through various news posts.  He hasn't handled the announcements well and there's still the question of who the North American publisher is, but he didn't lie.  Anybody who has followed MMOs should have seen this coming.  Those who don't or are new the genre are justifiably confused and upset, but why should other players have to clarify the situation for them?  That's the real issue - Tasos' mismanaged communication.

Then again, if Aventurine is self-publishing in NA, that's another issue entirely, as I mentioned above.

Ultimately, you're right, though.  Players can choose to play or not play, pay or not pay.

I think this is an important quote to include in this discussion:

"Our first release is the European release. The North American release will follow as soon as possible but not until a few months later. We’re allowing players from N. America to participate in the European release due to this fact. Of course we’ll make some allowances for these players if they would like to move to the US server when it launches."

Quote by Tasos from TTH interview 1-15-09 (A week before the first scheduled launch day).

    www.tentonhammer.com/node/61490

I guess I am curious as to what "allowances" are being made "when it launches".

Is 3 months after the server launches, "when it launches"?

I think most would say no.

Is paying full price for a second client "when it launches" an "allowance"?

I think most would say no.

So where is this promised "allowance" at the time of "when it launches"?

I fail to see what the "allowance" is at the time the server is launching.  Perhaps someone else can point out what the allowance is.  Surely 3 months after the server has been launched is not "when it launches"... right?

YOUR ALLOWANCE IS YOUR PAYING LESS TO TRANSFER THEN BUYING THE CLIENT AGAIN.

This is black and white legal text book stuff. Take off the rose colored glasses.  Your getting hung up on the word "launch"  Making allowances when the US server launches does not mean the day its playable.  It means when its "launched" we will allow players to transfer instead of buying the client again and they are.  Your just expecting it to happen on day one which is CLEARLY never stated by Taso.

I remember when I was young I wanted everything right away too, but in the real world sometimes we have to wait for the things we want.

you know what would be great? They make you wait 3 months to transfer (at 15 bucks a month) then charge you 5 dollars to transfer.......congratulations...you just payed for the new NA client lol ($50)

so basically any transfer fee over 5 bucks, AV makes more of a profit on you than if you went and bought the game (assuming the game is 50 bucks)

I am shocked and dismayed that DF thinks they can get away with this. I just canceled my account not 10 minutes ago because I heard what DF has planned. After 10 or so years in developement you would think they would have a better product to sell. its just simply bad business. Mortal Online here I come! or Star Wars TOR

Thats not how them will see it.  Them will provide you a service these 3 months, and ask you some money in exchange.

Is not like you will pay these 3 months, and never run the game, you will run the game, and have fun playing it, so is money that is dedicated to your fun.  I don't think you (and other people with this idea) have a valid point here.

But ...he!.. unsubscribe 2 months... and resub the month transfers are open, If you are soo inclined.

    05-10-2008, 11:28 AM Tasos:

    Clarification on last update

As much as I enjoy seeing heated arguments on the community board, I think some of you are getting a bit ahead of yourselves:

When I mention one race per server I'm making an argument in the racial context. The reason you can choose to play only one race is because we allow one character per server, and this has been explained before over and over as the only way to ensure player accountability.

So let me confirm again that Darkfall has one character per server and that's not going to change. We wouldn't go changing a feature without announcing it and explaining why we did it. We're not in the habit of just 'slipping in' feature changes.

Sorry if this created any confusion, I'll try to be more careful next time.

As per usual I am interested in what Ripper has to say. What he says usually makes sense. As I see it his two major points are correct. AV handled this with their usual ineptness and really do deserve the Dung storm that they are recieving.

    Dem hibbies! Dey be wrong!

If you really like playing the game that much, you'll either stay on the EU box or ...buy it again.

No harm no foul? I hope that you aren't (and never will become) a PR relations responsible for a company. From strictly legal point of view I am sure what Tasos and AV has done is kosher. However from a customers point of view this is anything but kosher.

It was said right after DF release that NA players will be able to transfer to NA server once it is released. People took this statement in good faith and thus paid for a european version of the game. Now they are told that not only do they have to pay to be transfered but more importantly HAVE TO WAIT 3 MONTHS after the release.

Those two points should have been clarified at the very beginning so that NA customers could take the correct decision. Now they are stuck in EU for another three months or buy the bloody game again. If that is ok for you then you dont have a clue on customer relations. And the fact that you think that people will shrug it off and buy it again if they like the game is just propastorous.

I may like to do alot of things but that does not mean I would pay twice the price for it. Be it a cinema ticket or a computer game.

What are you, an imbecile? When it launches will be interpreted by the vast majority of literate people that it will happen when it launches and not 3 months after. If you took your head out of Tasos ass then maybe you would realise that.

Seems many have already declared they unsub.  That said, a consumer felt cheated has all the right and inclination to air his view and anger in open venues, which MMORPG is one.
