So who is sick of EQ2 yet? Or realized it isnt that great?

r1tualr1tual Member Posts: 559

I dont play EQ2,  but I was a beta tester.

I just want to guage how many people hate the game as much as I did during beta...

I know this game and WoW brings in alot of fanboys,  but what are your impressions?

I wouldnt play this game ever.  Unless I was given a maxed out game master character with unlimited resources for free.  But that aint happening.

So who has quit yet?  Dont worry im not playing WoW,  I think WoW sucks too.  Maybe even worse then EQ2.

Sadly, I did. I got bored of all traditional EQ MMORPG's.

I'm trying EVE now. I need deeper MMORPG"s then bashing goblins all day.

I'm playing EQ2 and really loving it.  Great game.  Its a grind, but so what?  Its a fun grind and you can stop grinding any time you want.  Very addicting, great graphics, lots of buy and sell, what's not to like except for no PvP?  Perhaps even that will come.

As for Eve Online - GREAT GAME!!!  Played that for about 5 months and really enjoyed it.  Cancelled my account to do the EQ2 thing.  Eve is not for eveyone, but is really good.  FYI

    Guys

Just be careful what you all post here...

Some of the "dedicated fans" may be come unstable. Just be "cautious" with what you type. This thread smells a little like gasoline and there's some kid 2 blocks away with a book matches

I havent played but I know I will like it, I love grouping and I dont mind a grind. My favorite mmorpg is EQ, and if this is like a perfected EQI, then im sure I will like it.

Whats funny is that alot of people bash the game here, but why dont you see alot of bashing in the official EQ2 forums? Maybe cause they dont have an account and never played?

GRRRRRRRRR <frothes at the keyboard, puts away the book of matches>imageimage  Seriously though, EQ2 can be a massive grind, but I still enjoy the challenge and pleasure, if I can't find a group to lvl, I explore, and mine, gather ect, and go do tradeskills.

I am overall a patient gamer so maybe thats why the grind isn't an issue with meimage

I like it. If your sick of EQ2 don't play it. I'm sure everyone is tired of these damn posts. If you really truly hated it you'd stay away from all things EQ2, including this forum.

It isn't a perfected EQ1, but that is subjective and depends on what in EQ1 you don't think is perfect and what you think makes it so. I like EQ1 and don't like EQ2. EQ2 is a different game with different mechanics. I recommend you check those differences out and decide for yourself. Don't let the graphic fools you. EQ2 awesome graphics don't compensate for some of its bad design element. I hope they fix those soon, but I am not holding my breath.Whats funny is that alot of people bash the game here, but why dont you see alot of bashing in the official EQ2 forums? Maybe cause they dont have an account and never played?Define a lot? Game bashing or praising is really nothing more than popularity vote. It doesn't matter one way or another other a focus group random sample for a marketing rep. Each game is a product of three design elements: 1) software design, b) art design, c) game design. These produce a product. If a product is defective in any way, people will take notice. If the product quality is inferior from other products, customer sales will drop. When buying a game I consider those 3 elements: a bad computer design hurt my ability to run the software, a bad graphic design hurts my eyes and a bad game design mean lots of frustration and no fun. Be a smart shopper. My account for EQ2 is still active till this month expires and I have been a player of EQ for 4+ years. This is the only site in which I post. I like MMORPG.COM because it isn't an official forum for ANY company. I recommend you be careful when jumping into confusion as you don't have enough data.EQ2 Qeynos Guild- http://www.imperium-arcanum.com

I bought EQ2, played it for a few weeks, got to level 18.. and realized I hated it. It isn't even half what EQ1 was, and EQ1 only held me for 6 months. I think I will go back to WoW, EQ2 is too much grinding for my tastes.

It has many MANY flaws, some of them drive me mad, there are bugs a plenty, some of them drive me mad, especially if you are into crafting. (allthough many crafting bugs are promised to be fixed within the week)

BUT, I am like dangerously addicted rigth now, almost to a point were I need to set some limits for myself.

I am however also slowly feeling how the candle is burning out, some of the things up there that are driving me mad are escalating that of course.

LVL 28 Warden, LVL 22 Carpenter on Runnyeye server BTW, on the freeport side.

It is very beatiful, the interface is a dream for sure, I think i changed like 4 things and it fit me like a glove, i would really like to be able to zoom out more though but hey.

Lore and history a PLENTY, not only the old EQ stuff of wich I know nothing but it feels like there is a at least a little bit of point behind most things you do.

Quests, well there are an insane amount, from delivery to heritage quests that span weeks, allthough the fact that there were very different persons writing different quests sure shows, I can spot the "To nice GM, Average GM and the homicidal GM" from PnP behind most of them, they vary a LOT for doing almost the exact same thing, in quality, reward and difficulty.

The merchant system does not belong in the 21th century, it does not belong in the 20th even, even though it favors people like me who can have my computer on 24/7 it is beyond insane and such a horribly obvious plot to get people to buy 2 accounts it sickens me. It is also an environmantel disaster, or close to it, in times of power saving and "save the earth" 10 of thousands of 300+ watt computers are turned on just to sell stuff in a virtual game, for virtual cash, ust because the devs were to lazy to fix something else. Having friends among them I know for a fact the environmentalists is gonna hit SoE pretty soon, allthough friendly people the damage you can do with phamflets is amazing.. :)

The inventory I swear to god I was looking for how to petition when I first logged in cuase I thougth it was bugged, looked a lot like AC1 inv so was looking for me other bag tabs, but noo, 6 inv slots allthough you can use bags it is still a disaster, and it to does not belong in a game released on this side of the year 2000.

Fish on land, may sound wierd but in Nektulos fish are everywere, in the trees on the mountains, everywere, what ever immersion factor you had before entering is totally destroyed by this, it is not even unprofessional, if I were in any way responsible for something like that id quit my job and make a public apology. Just friggin REMOWE em SOE, they serve no purpose anyhow.

Still, I have not had this much fun in a MMORPG since I think ever, the collection quests alone would keep me here, and scattered across the lands are MANY things you can actually interact with, it makes the world feel very alive.

EQII was fun for two weeks. Then the grind hit and it got hard to find a group. I realized I did not have enough time for it with finals on the way and with my addiction is counterstrike scource.

I was in the beta a while ago...

My first impressions was that the game was amazing (the graphics) up to around level 10. And right up to about level 20 the grind hit me like a punch in the face.

Somewhere between the endless amount of zoning, boring quests, and bland/desserted areas, I couldn't play this game longer than 5 minutes.

That's in large part due to SoE's policy of deleting "non-constructive" posts. You'd be surprised to find out how many posts seem to fall under this category (or at least that was the case 2weeks ago when I was playing).

And as far as the getting sick of EQ2 yeah I got sick of it. I'm currently not playing any MMORPG's and will probably wait for Dark and Light or EQ2 w/a pvp ruleset server.

Sheesh, are you really that ignorant ? You wont ever see any negative posts on any SOE made game for very long because they censor their sites. Even the slightest unintended critiscm gets deleted. Sigh, my worst fears are realized...someone actually thinks everything is peachy because they dont read anything bad on an official site. Maybe you'd like to play SWG too ? I read on their forums about how a great game it is LOL

If you actually read the offical forums you would see that SoE moves all deleted and locked posts into "the glass house" forum section. So you can read them all there.

EQII was not really meant to be a sequel, but a complete new mmorpg. Those of you who are seeking a EQ clone done right with better graphics and a new and fresh story should take a reality trip and read the feedback. EQII techically is EQII but not Everquest 2.0. Think about it.

After playing many many hours and different chars, I can say that EQ2 is a decent game, but at this point I feel that is has innate design flaws that kill it for me.  Soloing is not viable.  At lower levels it is, but once you start getting up there, if you want to see any worthwhile gain, you must group.  This leads to a second complaint.  Sure you can say that it helps people to help each other, but in all reality it doesn't.  This is shared xp debt.  On most of my chars I've died maybe max of 10 times on each.  Normally caused by a total wipe deep in an area that makes it almost impossible to escape.  XP debt breaks groups apart in a flash after a single wipe.  The wipe normally being caused by players who will not listen to how they should play with other classes.  My most recent char has been an enchanter.  And in *many* groups, people will just not listen when you tell them to assist the MA.  You'll have people fighting multiple mobs, a caster soloing another mob, tanks trying to control all aggro by hitting something once and just succeeding in breaking a mez.

Now not everyone is like this.  I have been in a *few* groups that actually understand how they should play.  But that is not all that often, still when it is it is a breath of fresh air.  Yeah, i could possibly join a decent guild with decent players and solve most of that, but there are others things besides this that hurt the game.

I've run into a lot of seriously frustrating bugs, eg invis mobs in stormhold beating the crap out of you, causing multiple shard recoveries which just leads to more of the same situation.  Invisible NPC's in buildings etc.

The grind really starts kicking in as you level.  Yes you can tradeskill, I've got a scholar and an outfitter.  But you can only do that so much also.  Monotony kicks in.  Gratification takes too long to achieve for me.  Shared debt adds to it.  Sitting around waiting for groups with pointless solo content does not alleviate it.  I've got 2 kids and a wife and a job.  Even *if* I had as much time as I wanted to play, I don't think I would because it can just take soo long to level.  No, it's not like first release of EQ1 long, but it's still very long without any real gratification.

Only 4 char slots.  I like to try out different chars to see which fits me best.  I've already had to delete 3 decently leveled chars in order to do this and it sucks.  Now they are allowing 8 slots, *if* you pay 7 bucks more per month.

Another point, SOE CS is friggin horrible.  You almost never see them post a response to anything significant.  They won't even acknowledge certain problems eg mem leaks that seriously can impact gameplay.  In only one place have I seen the mem leaks acknowledged by an SOE employee, and that was on eq2interface.com when speaking of creating gui's etc.  But never would they acknowledge a problem on their own forums and admit they have a prob they need to fix.  They make themselves a faceless corporation.  Not good.

Though alot of the game is excellent, I am finding that the combination of these things are driving me away, hence in the morning I'm stopping at the store and picking up WoW.  I don't know if i will find the same things their that I do with EQ2, but i've been driven to it.  With serious competition, SOE can't act like they are the only players out there anymore, but yet they still are acting as such.  In the end, this will  hurt them until they smarten up.  And even if they do, people will still be left with a bad taste in their mouths.  I'm not saying EQ2 will go down or anything.  But it sure can take a hit.  I think with peoples free months running out around this time, they are about to find that out.  They are not the MMO gods they beleive themselves to be.

This is all the way I am feeling now.  Your experience may differ which would mean you have different expectations and different things amuse you.  That's fine.  I'm glad if you enjoy it and have not had problems.  I'm just saying, I'm disappointed... very much so.  I built my comp specifically for EQ2, and it has not turned out like I had hoped at all.  It's really too bad.  I so looked forward to it for years. C'est la vie.

The problem I have with these posts is not so much peoples opinions, but that this post has been done before. If you have complaints post them in a forum already created for that purpose. It does no good to start a new one every time theres something you don't like.

Heh, no thanks. I hardly have enough cash for the game's copy, so this is a wee bit too much eh.

Well EQ2 has destroyed SOE's reputation, why?

CS is awesome, I got help within 2 hours and the CS stuck with me for MANY follow up questions.

I have been tearing them apart on forums and still have NO deleted posts.

They have been upfront and informative, only the recent craft nerf slipped by and we only got to now it once we logged in, but they backed down after 24h.

Never having dealt with them before and having judged from what I have read here and other places this is not at all what I expected, I am quite impressed.
