i wouldnt recommend any mmorpgs for 13 yr olds.... but thats not my place to judge...
just stand outside the store and ask someone to buy it for you, tip them a couple bucks... also, i dont think that many stores check the age, or am i too old to not notice
fyi: if ur parents wont buy it for you, i seriously think they wont pay for you either.
I have to agree. Mmorpgs for a 13 year old ...i dont know. Seems a little too young for me. Plus, where would you get the monthly payments for it?

When I was 13 I was only a little less mature than I am now, (at 18) I'd say let people judge when they are ready for things, I hate protective laws, I don't need protecting from myself thanks... anyway, with an MMORPG you're gonna find it hard to get it without a way for the monthly payments like a cheque or credit card even if you do manage to get it from store.
Maybe a friend can get two copies if he has generous parents and you could pay him back?
well, parents have a reason why they don't let their children do certain things. I understand you're 18, but wait until your 30 with a couple small toddlers....there was a reason why your parents established certain rules over you. 13 is just too young to question a parent's authority of what is best for your life (just 7 years earlier you were in kindergarten learning how to write your name).
Sorry to go off topic. But to the original poster: Usually a parent's advice has good intentions because they love you. Now, if they beat the crap out of you and throw beer bottles then that's another issue. But for the most part, parents say that because they want to "try" to steer you in a right direction.
You don't want to be behind a computer 8 hours a day drinking stale pepsi while Courtney next store has a crush on ya do you? Go out and have fun...play outside and get dirty. Heck, it's more fun than you think.

Enigma is right. I would never let my niece watch me play any video games that featured anything dying. Just stick to your parents' word. Show maturity and they will probably give you more rights.

Can't argue about it really, is just opinion in basic, never liked the descrimination against age and still don't despite it not affecting me anymore.
Oh and by the way, saying to someone 13 to go outside and get dirty means exactly what it does to someone older, most aren't running around parks. (unless as a spot to drink/do drugs)
Ain't nothing in World of Warcraft that is going to corrupt someone of that age, find a way to get it, grab a sword, fight the Horde.
13 year old´s are often underrestimated. Im 14 and still many peoble cant see differens between me and a 18 year old. Okay i can see some idiots that spam and ruin it for other but thats not everyone thats like that. About the payment, i run with newspapers. But its not hard being 14 year old playing MMO because its just a game, not real life. There are just as many 18 year old idiots as 13 year old. I would love to play with a ten year old, if he/she acted like a good team mate and was suitable to talk to, but that doesent happen very often (never). And i would love to play with a 18 year old if he/she acted like a good team mate and was suitable to talk to, and that happens often but sometimes 18 year old´s also act like 10 year old´s.
Play MMORPG obey your thirst.
Ehh???

To be honest I have to agree with Lasbas, I am only 14 years of age but when it comes to gaming people often have no idea and often think that I am far older. It really depends on whether the person is mature and responsible enough to co-operate with other players however I would say that 12 is about the youngest. Any younger and people don't catch on with the game as quickly as others might.
As technology advances and becomes available for younger ages the age boundaries become lower through the years, it wont be long before you are getting under 10s playing MMORPGs such as WoW, if not already.
Thanks, eXo
Im 14, and I see no problem with age. As long as no one bothers me I do care. I dont like people messing around with me in game. If i never told someone my age ive had people this i was like in my twenties because i dont act immature.
They're not allowing you to play World of Warcraft, but they allow you to use the internet without their presence?

this goes out to your parents, buddy. its rated TEEN right, well your child is 13 kk, good then he is a TEEN thirTEEN, fourTEEN, fifTEEN, sixTEEN, sevenTEEN, eighTEEN, nineTEEN, those are all TEENS.
i mean come on my 5 year old plays EQ2, starwars galaxies, and WOW, and he loves them, but of course i sit with him so he doesnt blow up my computer but hey it keeps them out your arse dont it SO I SAY LET THE TEEN PLAY THE GAME!!!!!!!!!
I'm 13 but but im sure ingame nobody can tell the difference between me an mature players... all of my friends in-game were 30+ and probaly din't have a clue i was 13
When I was thirteen, I was playing shit like Soldier of Fortune. And look at me today, I'm a 16 year old productive member of the society, and playing violent computer games (Dune 2 and Wolf 3d when I was 8 or 6 or something, can't remember) hasn't changed me one bit. Sure, I want to join the navy instead of an office job like most Dutch people my age, but that's not because of playing computer games.
If ignorance is bliss, you'd think people would be happier when you point out what morons they are!
The reason I don't clan or play with younger kids 10-13 is because in games with a built in voice client like Socom II and Counterstrike scource, they tend to spam the mic with pointless remarks. They also sound annoying. I am sorry, but I don't want to hear a 12 year old kid with a high pitched and loud voice talk about his favorate skaters. Younger kids also tend to use less logic in the games. They don't use strategy, they often kill their whole team if they get angry or denied, and they can't seem to get the clue that they aren't wanted after they ask questions like "How do I set binds" or "How do I hak?!" over and over. I have met many mature kids. My old DAOC guild was composed of all age groups from 10-30 and I never would have been able to guess their ages until I heard them on Teamspeak. Hey, if you like games, great. If someone does not want you in their clan/team/group because you are younger, so be it. Kids don't have a great reputation on video games.

for the community issue, i also agree that age is irrelivent as a genuine moron doesn't really deviate too far from that path in life. i live next to a frat house and if -anyone- tried to tell me that those trilobites were smarter than your average ten year old, i'd laugh in their face. when they're managing the local car dealership in their 30s-40s, i'm not projecting a substantial change.
we like to think that the players that get on our nerves are a bunch of 13 year old Jeff Ks, but do a little research and you'll find that's not always the case. contrary to popular belief, maturity isn't merely granted with age.
i think they should drop the archaic aged-based rating system entirely and start a quiz-based one. if you list Staind under the "greatest songwriter of all time", you're out.
well
Im not talking about whether or not it is right for a 13 year old to play mmorpgs. His parents already established the fact that they don't want him to play a teen rated game at 13. Im just pointing out that usually parents mean well when they establish rules and you should respect them.
But on another side of mmorpgs. I dont think 13 year olds should be playing them.
1. Mmorpgs tend to be addictive. If you play mmorpgs about 5-8 hours a day for 5 straight days; you are addicted. (not you ...just using the word "you" for examples)
2. Mmorpgs are very engaging. Requires a lot of time to play. This could lead a 13 year old (very easily) to be hold up in his room playing mmorpgs rather than going outside and see that bright shiney object in the sky called the sun)
3. 13 year olds cannot afford mmorpgs. It is winter time. Unless he lives in Florida he wont be cutting grass. (Florida dont have grass anyways...they think it's cool to have a yard full of orange rocks rather than gras...dont ask me why). And 13 is too young to work at a store. Last time I was 13 I wasn't allowed legally (back in 1988). The legal age was 14. Maybe they changed it.
4. It isn't the game that I would question the 13 year being affected by (game is fine). It's the community.
If you're 13 and your parent dont mind u playing mmorpgs...then that's cool. I'm just trying to explain why parents do the thing they do since I am a parent myself.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
Not arguing, just nitpicking really but...
1. and 2. Agreed but cause you could say the exact same thing about a person of any age, including a person who's staff on a website about MMORPG's.
3. They can't afford a roof over their heads either.
4. They're exposed to a whole lot worse and dangerous situations in real life and more corrupting too. (Hell, my sis is 14, sexually active, drugs, drink etc...)
Don't see how your points are subject to only someone 13ish really.
But why do you point out mmorpg as any different than other games??.
arent halo and counter-strike addictive also??(last time i check people played those games for like 48 hrs straight in those lan- parties.... what about half life 2?? diablo 2?? there is a lot of games that could be considered addictive, the only thing different about mmorpgs is the monthly fee.
And if you talk about players engaged to a game, what about the adults?? are you saying that because we are adults then is ok to play 12 hrs straight in the weakends?? or to sleep less because playing at night?? or to spend less time with your family? .
Lets agree that everybody has a right to do anything with their lives, so am not judging. But if you are addicted to a game, it doesnt seem right no matter whats your age...
I agree also that parents in general mean well, but that doesnt mean always they are right.
If you want my advice, you could get a job and then buy the game yourself, if is your money then things are different. or if you are too young to get a job, you could get into a extracurricular activity of some kind...because i was in a swimming team, i used to ask games as a reward or gifts for holidays or whatever, after all i was very tired from the longs training and stuff so i said to them ....hey, i need to unwide from life (and then you can threat them to quit that activity if they push you too hard. )
The only argument in favor of him not playing would be that somehow teenagers are more inclined to get addicted to game, well ok thats possible...but after seeing how many adults are now completly addicted to mmorpgs, I say that is a widespread problem for all ages, not just the teens...

It's not the monthly fee that makes it different. Mmorpgs are designed so you can play it for years and years (theoritically) without getting bored of it.
Diablo2, halflife2, Halo 2, return to Castle Wolfenstein, America's Army etc etc are not designed to keep you engaged for months at a time. If it does, then great. Mmorpgs are designed completley different. There's a reason why they put in major grind, skill grinds, crafting grinds, levels, etc. Because they want you to play as long as possible.
Playing as long as possible puts more money into the companies pocket. This being the case, these companies are going to make it where you stay and play (whether it's through periodical expansions, expansion patches, higher levels, etc).
For example: I beat Half life 2 and Doom 3 in about 2 days a piece. Messed around with multiplayer of Counter Strike for a couple years. Couple years, yes. But how many people do you know who plays Counter Strike 5 hours a day 5 days a week for a year or so? Not many. And the ones who do, I would safely say are addicted.
Can adults be addicted too? Absolutley they can. But in a parent's perspective, just because an adult can get addicted doesn't make it right to go and let their son or daughter get addicted too.
Like I said, Im not arguing whether or not a game is "evil". Im just trying to point out that there are reasons why parents do what they do. Like I said, when you hit your 30's and have kids of your own..you'll see what I mean. Lol, then you'll crawl to your parents begging them to watch your screaming toddlers for 2 hours so you and your wife can go out to eat. lol
If you are 13 and play mmorpgs than that's fine.

"Couple years, yes. But how many people do you know who plays Counter Strike 5 hours a day 5 days a week for a year or so? Not many. And the ones who do, I would safely say are addicted."
I know a lot of people that is addicted to CS, there is even leagues of players and stuff like that, they prepare all year to go into competitions, like your regular soccer team.
Maybe i made a mistake in puttin fps in the same page as mmorpgs, but diablo2 is definetly a game thats addictive, as much as a mmorpg i would say, you can be grinding all day . War3 also has a lot of addicted players...
Well am 23 yrs with no kids so i feel different than you about it, but when i have kids, i think am gonna let them play, but im gonna be watching their grades closely.
...i dont know it all depends on the way you are raised, because the way i was raised i see this things as a reward. If my son is getting good grades, then am gonna let him play. Specially if he is a good kid and he stay out of problems. We all know School can be very stressful at times, trying to get good grades to get in to college. Games may help relax people if you play them in moderation...its like everything in life.
And if you think about it ,mmorpgs are a better way of control that the other games because of the monthly fee. In your regular games the only way to stop them from playing is to hide the computers or to disconnect them from the internet and given that they are needed for doing homeworks and reports , thats more complicated. But with a mmorpg you simple stop paying and thats it.
Parents are already having enough trouble trying to get their kids to stop playing video games and do their homework. Imagine a MMORPG that's 10 times more addictive than any other offline video game that exists.
Mom> Hun get off WoW and do your homework
Kid> But mom just 1 more hour, I'm with a group and we're almost done with our quest!
Mom> That's what you said 4 hours ago, how long is that quest?
Kid> You don't understand, after we finish 1 quest, a new one opens up and we have to finish it! If I don't, I'll be 1-2 levels behind all my drop-out no-life friends and I'll never catch up to them!
Mom> That's it! I'm shutting off the modem!
Kid> NO! If you do THAT, I'm dropping out of school!
Dad> That's it, time for a beating you little sh1t.
.... oops I went overboard. oh well. lol

If anything you should play it at a younger age. At that time what do you have, half an hour of homework? That's probably better than being 18 years old staying up at 5:00 in the morning cramming for a university exam because you were raiding in World of Warcraft for 5 hours......
Or even worse being an adult trying to finish up your last quest so you can take your children to school in time.
