The only aspect that made me go "WoW!" was , getting xp for harvesting. O.o
I actually liked this idea. A lot! I actually felt the harvesting was interesting, and implemented in a different way then I am used to. Too bad the rest of the game is not innovative in the least. I wanted to fly from level 1...didn't happen. Ok, I wanted to fly once I hit level 10.
I hit level 10..woopdie doo I can fly ...not fluidly like in WoW, but in a cumbersome control style for ...1 minute? really?
Oh, back to the harvesting. Loved it!

I have no idea how you can find Aion's flight cumbersome. Especially since it's idential to WoW in every single way as far as controls go.
I especially liked gliding as well.
You can increase your flight time with potions, better wings, some food, and some abilities.
Your complaint about not being able to fly from level one is puzzling. For an example: you don't get your mount at level one in World of Warcraft. It's a reward. It's something to look forward to.
Aion isn't particularly 'innovative' (I hate the way that word is thrown around) but it does what it wants to very well, which is what makes it a good game.

I find it pretty good, I wish flight wasnt limited to 1 min ( poitions allow you to fly 12s more woopty do) I dont think it should be limited there are plenty of other ways to make flight balanced.
Also i hate the fact that the pve is so hard that its rather difficult to take on more then one mob. Atleast in the lower tier lvls Witch should be easyer due to the fact one opinion will be based on them.
What no comment on the harvesting? Anyway, you know what button I used to fly in WoW? the space bar. Once. The rest of it was just like when you swim, you use WSAD or the 2 mouse buttons held down and you just angle where you want to go. Aion does not feel like this. At all. All I hear about is you can fly! so that's why I said, not from level 1? bummer. I mean, you have wings on your back! You just can't use them until some random memory is restored? What?! That's just silly to me.
You get exp for harvesting in Fallen Earth too, and it is better exp. You could theoretically level using only harvesting and crafting(although it wouldn't be easy).
Aion's flight is mainly for aerial combat, a whole new depth for PvP battles. Also it is interesting on the maps that are developed with allowed flying.
Allowing full flight would simply allow people to cheat into quest destinations, heck, while even walk? Especially because monsters don't fly and there are some places it doesn't feel right.
Limited flight time works perfectly, at high levels there should be around 3~5 minutes of flight time (equipment, titles and new wings that gives flight time/speed bonuses).
You can fly at level 10 in WoW now?
This is not only a form of transport but also, and more importantly a pvp weapon,I guess if you gave the game some time and learned how flying should be used I could give your "review"some more time also.
You may say "I did not mean you could fly at lvl 10 in wow" but again you get more time for flight and bonuses to improve the flight time as you level.
You failed with this post as you decided to post with the 1st say 10 levels,I ask you what did wow do that was so great(you did mention wow)in the 1st 10 levels?
No flying, not as many spells....just the same quest structure,so again what was your point?
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

Do you people not realise the a new players opinion is going to be based on the first levels not the last 10? If someone finds the first lvls bother some why are they going to play till the later ones?
What does this have to do with the OP ?
No where has he said about end level or indeed has anyone said about Aion end level,he said he could fly but not like wow and I simply said he had only gotten to level 10,also I did not say he should keep playing to end level,I simply said were was the difference between wow and Aion at level 10...you do see I said level 10 this time right?
The difference is(as I already said)is you get more spells and you can indeed fly in Aion and not in wow(at level 10),was I wrong there or did you just skim through the text?

I find the flight clunky aswell you have to use like page up and down and space bar and R and some other keys , to meny keys to use hit space by mistake you start to glide to the ground and waste your "air time"
Enjoy the smooth flying in WOW.
They arnt and thats ok with me.
Yes it would be much better if the game just did it for you.
You do not have to use those keys. First off you can change the keybinds if you so desire, or you could just fly with your mouse steering in any of 360 directions. So you have no reason to hit your glide key unless you actually want to.
Flying is no different that moving normally, its not like you actually hold down the WASD keys to move/turn.
I love this, see the Aion fanboi's come in and harp on me about only playing 10 levels. ROFLMAO!
When I played WoW 4 years ago, the first 10 levels blew me away. I remember falling off of Teldrasil when I went exploring and dying. Took me forever to figure out how to find my body. But it was fun.
First 10 levels of a game should grab you. No matter what. If they don't, ok, the next 10 better grab me. Guess what, they didn't. I just found Aion boring. Back to EQ2 for now until Champions Online.
Bye.
Good for you but for others including me first 10 lvls are fun maybe because many of us never played WOW. However the real game begins once you get access to ABYSS. This is still PVP game at core and if you haven't experienced it your views means nothing. AION is not WOW.
This is closed beta so i don't understand the basis on which you are bashing AION.
What was the difference between WoW and Aion for the first 10 levels, simple gather and kill x quests, unless there's something I missed?
No MMO will ever be as good as your first MMO, it's just the way it is.
What does this have to do with the OP ?

I was talking to the people saying well later on in the game you can get potions and wings and skills to increase your fly time by.....duh duh duh.. 1 to 2 min ( gasp.. my god not 3 min ) Witch wont matter to a new player who finds things they dislike about the game in the first 10 lvls.
did you know you also get exp for crafting?
not all will harp, some will tho, since you seem over critical about a game that you haven't experienced the main feature of it. its not flight some might be looking for it to be but its not, the biggest feature is the abyss and the pvp. and thats when ou see why the flight is the way it is, and at higher lvls you can fly decent amount of time, and you get buffs when in flight that if you had going 100% of teh time could be seen as OP.
for me the game reminded me alot of EQOA in its style for some reason, didn't remind me of wow cept the flying and as others said the controls are the same. tho there is one flight control it didn't have that wow has and thats the backflip thing you can do on your flying mount, tho most wow players don't know about it either, i found it by mistake. i had bound my ventrilo to the "insert" key and in wow if you're on a flying mount you do a back flip if you have the auto run button goin.
Wow isn't either. Few MMOs have been since EQ, TcoS is one, and Df (which have a lot of issues, but you can't take the innovativness from them).
But games must not be innovative to be popular, Diablo 2 sold better than the first game but was not the least innovative.
A game that is like no other game is a unique experience and if it is fun also it is a keeper. But fun game play is not something to look down on, fun is enough to keep any MMO running.
Still, I don't think I will play Aion myself, since other upcoming game seems more fun. I might give it a shot if it's a cold winter however.
There is a key macro to turn your wings on and off in game in case people think that jumping off a ledge is the only way to fly in game. Of course flying is limited to certain areas only.
Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.
Game(s) I Am Currently Playing:
GW2 (+LoL and BF3)
and probably another reason they might harp is because your judging the game on lvls in wich you don't even have your class unlocked. idk if you played it then but eq2 was the same way. you played arch-types till 10 or 20? then the class branched out like aions classes do.i played it then but like you didn't find it very fun, but in aion the first 10 lvls go fast and you get your class rather quickly. i find the archtype thing annoying and no idea why its done in the first place. it must have been lvl 20 in eq2 i'm not possitive but it did take alot longer and eq2 was alot slower lvling back then, wich really sucked if you wantde to play a rogue and a ranger because they played the same exact way for 20 lvls.
I played Aion till level 20. Tried a mage, went to sorcerer. Tried a scout didn't get far. My point is this, which all of you love to assume incorrectly, that the game isn't horrible, I'm not "bashing" it, I'm just saying it isn't grabbing me at all with fun factor. I think the difference between this and WoW, is atmosphere, and sheer options. In WoW I can choose 6 different starting areas which have a great feel to each. In Aion, I get 2 choices.
Also, WoW was nowhere near my first MMO, just the first MMO where tons of people and friends in RL actually played. My first MMO was SWG. Followed by FFXI, then EQ2, then WoW, then LOTRO, back to EQ2. I played Aion hoping for a brand new world to explore, and all I got was something that reminded me of Guild Wars. The graphics and the closed off feeling of the world.
For those who say get to the pvp aspect, that's what the game is about, I think it's sad that I have to get to level 25 to do so. WAR starts me off at level 1. WoW starts me off at level 10 for the most part.
Anyway, my hats off to those who like it, enjoy it while it lasts, come see me when you want to talk about games with more depth and strategy and atmosphere. I'll be playing in STOR, STO, Champions, and FFXIV where that will hopefully be the case.
