Really cant be bothered typing so I'll just get to the point. MMORPG basically thinks that every MMO sucks. No one likes WoW and that all the MMO's coming out, like Swtor and Aion will be good for a while but become boring after a year or so. Is there actually an MMO that's coming out that is actually supposed to reveloutionise the genre?
Edit: Yes I know, I know all of wow's flaws having played it for 3 and a half years, don't bother listing them all.

I feel your pain man, it's just that we're all thinking that. I see your new to MMORPG.com and we're kind of all waiting for that next big thing. I gaurantee you that people feel the same way. It's not just you xD :S
<So don't post stuff up unless you read other threads about the same thing. People post stuff like this all the time : P>
Are you talking about the Site or the people who post here? The people who post here have opinions and post them. The site seems fairly neutral to me as far as opinions go, or is that what you are referring to - they rarely come out and say a game is good? Just asking for clarification.
FFXI fanboy says FFXIV.
/grin
I assume that you get that impression on this site because every MMORPG released in the last 4 years does in fact suck. WoW's a good game, not my cup of tea but for what it is its a good game. It's definitely not an ultra amazing game deserving of it's popularity in my opinion, but oh well. There hasn't been a good game released since WoW in my opinion.
Earthrise looks very promising though.
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.
Yes, I was reffering to the people that post on this site. So having just quit wow after 3 years I have nothing to look forward to.
Great.

I haven't seen this site really come out and say every game is bad nor is it a good game, pretty fair in my view. Now the players on the other hand are just speaking up and if the whole site seems like it is all about this game is bad and that game is bad, then this is telling us something, well hopefully the mmo companies see this and go back to the fork in the road that lead them astray.
O I KNOW, IT WAS GREED , wasn't it, lol.
Anyway I agree, most everything out now is crap and it is showing and I think we the people have spoken and I hope they get it.
Peace

No clue, but there are plenty of MMOs coming out that look like they'll be fun.
- RPG Quiz - can you get all 25 right?
- FPS Quiz - how well do you know your shooters?
Hint: Don't look for something to "revolutionize" the genre and look at each game on its own terms.
It tries to be a WoW clone? Fine, see how good a job it does. You may find it's similar, but better, than WoW (in your own eyes - how much fun you're having).
People on this site are overly-negative, though. Mostly old UO or SWG vets who are cranky because there were very few sandbox releases after WoW. However, games like Mortal Online and Earthrise should brighten their mood, so maybe in a couple of years, this site will be a little more cheerful.
Haha... what am I thinking?
How long do you expect you should be able to play a game before something new sounds refreshing? If I get a year out of Aion I'll be happy and it will have been a great purchase.

Exactly, because today with all these failed releases people are playing an MMO for like a couple of weeks to a month.
3+ years for myself, preferably more than 5 though.
When I find the 'one' MMO, I expect to play it for as long as possible.
So basically Aion takes over the east, starwars takes alittle over the west and WoW still sits there with a grin on it's face. ''Hey guise, I'm simple and easy and boring, come play me!''

And this is exactly what I been thinking for about a year now, nothing is as fun as it use to be for me anyway. I am 40 yrs old and been playing MMO since their conception, not even going to say what I have played, too many.
Come on something new and vibrant.
Win. You just read the entire situation at the moment. Basically, until we get a shot at these two games in the west WoW will be sitting here pretty much laughing.
WoW= Ez mode graphics, quests, systems (no guild interactivy - living guilds ect ) Just plain ez mode watered down for the main stream noob = 11 million subs - most are chinese accounts.
The only thing that it has good running for it is the end game and that gets repetative as hell.
Does that deserve to honestly be the king? (I hate saying that)

I think you missed my point XD
I didn't state it clearly though.
To me, after a year's time I've experienced everything the world has to offer and am ready for a new virtual world to explore. I can't think of any MMO that you're not able to crawl all of the content within an entire year... I'm not talking leveling one of each class, but reaching cap and doing the endgame.
youtube.com/gcidogmeat
no
come back in 3 more years and a half
Took me 1½~2 years of casual/hc gaming to get to level cap in FFXI with one class- then 2+ more years to catch up with everything else like endgame (no events gets replaced... it adds up).
And I enjoyed it, too But no other MMO does this afaik... I want to experience it again
I am looking forward to Champions Online, myself. We will see if it is any good, all MMO's are kind of a crapshoot, they get pushed out too soon because (1) they want that money now, (2) and us fans want that game now. I hope Champions online is playable or I may just give up on MMO's and focus on single player games.
I guess the only thing that can be said about games not yet released is "We will see". I think they should release a trial first though so that if you do not like the game you do not waste your money on it. That will never happen though. Yes I have beta tested games and then watched in horror as the release didnt come close to the game I tested.

Asheron's Call. New content added every month (they missed like 2-3 months out of 10 years). It's the only MMO where the "live team" was noticably active and alive. Too bad they let it go bot heavy and that it's almost impossible to connect to these days. If those two barriers didn't exist I'd still play it.
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."

There's basically two kinds of "it sucks" posts around here:
You want revolutionary . Try Dungeons and Dragons Online (DDO) for revolunary combat system. The only MMO out there that makes each battle fun and unique. Lets face it, the reason we are drawn to these games is for the battles and if an MMO can do this right then everything else is gravy. I've been playing this game for 3 years now and still love it. Many more years to go. They are about ot release a huge free mod to the game that will change things much much more.
All the MMO's I've tried seem to lack this combat system. This baby has character depth, rule system based of DnD, and might I add no more cartoony graphics. I don't know how people play those awful looking cookie cut characters in these other MMO's....blah. Make your character unique with feats, skills , enhancements, capstones, spell choices, weapons and items. No more simple skill trees....talk about boring. No automatic leveling, you choose exactly what direction your character wishes to develop in.
Much more to say, but it's best you try it for yourself and see what I'm talking about. I found the game one day at work while looking for Dungeons and Dragons books to play with the kids. Then I came upon there web site and played the intro video where it said you will play until your fingers bleed...lol. Been playing ever since. Was exciting from the moment I started. Other MMO's start you off gathering crap or killing dogs etc etc or bored me to death with the run up and spam button combat system. This MMO is the only MMO out there right now IMO... Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
Not a complete answer to the attitude of the people posting on this site, but I think you need to see the difference between gamers and MMO gamers.
Gamers will usually get a game, run through it at their own pace, and put it back on the shelves where it will gather dust and starts over again with a new game...
MMO gamers puts a lot of time (and money) in their games, creating characters, building relationships and guilds... I think there's a lot of people, like me, who had their first MMO fix with Ultima Online and still try to find a game that will give them some kind of similar feeling : complete freedom, non-linear storyline, no leveling... and actually fear running through a bear when taking a shortcut ... Others had that fix with WoW, grow bored and now tries to find something else. Their problem is, like it or not, that WoW is a great game with 5 years or so of new content and patching.
Add to this the fact the MMOs usually launch rushed and unfinished... and the fact that people don't want to have to wait 5 years to get a game close to what WoW now is...
Get all this together and you'll get a pretty good idea why people posting here are bashing so hard on the games... AND you still need to consider that some people are jerks who actually thinks that roaming forums and start trolling is cool... Personally, I think some just have too much time on their hands...
Now, as for your question, a lot of games now seek to revolutionnize the genre, in their own way : SWTOR, Mortal Online, Champions Online, Aion, Earthrise, Global Agenda... Guess it just depends on what you are looking for in your next MMO.
There are a lot of issues with posts on MMORPG. First you have to remember the type of person that will come to this site and post is a person different from the average MMO player and it is a minority group. Most want a much more challenging, much more involved game that takes time, work and skill to succeed. This type of game isn't being made anymore because the MMO market exploded onto casual people who didn't like to play video games at all. These casual players are now making up the majority and they want the game to be easy, quick to get to the end, and for everyone to get the same outcome regardless of skill. They don't like to be punished for messing up or dying and they don't like to have to learn the inner mechanics to be the best.
For that reason you will see the people here complain about all new games, because all the new games are the easy casual mode. Only indy companies will make the challenging/punishing games these people (yes me included) want to see. However indy companies do not have the capability to do this on a scale us gamers are used to. So that results in more complaining.
In short if you are a more casual player who likes an easier game (judging by how long you played WoW I'd guess at this possibly being the case) then there actually are plenty of games currently out that you might enjoy. I would suggest trying LotRO since it has similarities to WoW but offers a much different experience that might be more fresh and enjoyable to you after being burned out on your old game.
The other issue that is prevelant on these forums are all the people who are big fans of the games out right now, who for whatever personal sad reason they find, scour every single thread to find someone posting their honest feelings about a game or the genre as a whole and start to flame those people. Telling them if they're not happy then give up on the genre, or if they don't like the game then it is simply their fault. It is a sad thing to see so many people get in the face of those who are posting their true feelings in a non attacking way. But I suppose everyone needs a hobby and insulting people who are just trying to have conversations is theirs.
So to sum up, ignore all the rude people they will go away in time when everyone ignores them and never responds to anything they say. And accept that if you want a harder game there aren't any new ones around, just the old classics that are still running (AC, EQ, UO). These games may not have the newer graphics you're used to but they sure make up for it in gameplay. That is why I still play AC to this day. I try new titles constantly but they're all easy mode and get boring too fast and so I quit them within a month and continue to play good old AC.
By the writing in red you mean because of the time I took to play it I'm casual? I played WoW for 3 years because I enjoyed it, not because it took me so long to get to the end. In otherwords, 3 years of End game, not leveling.
