For most of the ppl, what realy counts is how u get to max level and not how fast u get there.
Originally posted by r1tual I dont play EQ2, but I was a beta tester. I just want to guage how many people hate the game as much as I did during beta... I know this game and WoW brings in alot of fanboys, but what are your impressions?
I wouldnt play this game ever. Unless I was given a maxed out game master character with unlimited resources for free. But that aint happening. So who has quit yet? Dont worry im not playing WoW, I think WoW sucks too. Maybe even worse then EQ2.
I think that EQ 2, just like City of Heroes, had a big wow factor. When you first entered the world on EQ2, you just had this feeling, because of the graphics, because of the weapons showing, etc... But after a while, this feeling wears off, and it wears off very quickly. It was the same way with CoH. The character creation wows the hell out of you, but when it boils down to it, it's just not that immersive. You definitely don't get the immersive feeling that you had while playing EQ Live and DAoC. Everquest 2 will appeal more to hardcore players and new players to the genre, and the middle ground players are left feeling like something is missing.
I must say that the game experience kind of decays with level. I hit lvl 25 a week ago and have since found myself creating new chars and playing through IoR and the newbie zones. The early zones are by far the best parts of the game balanced for both groups and solo. Currently I am in finals so I don't really have much time for the game but I'll keep it until after X-Mas if I still think it's not worth the money I pay for it I'll leave it.
Played it in live for a few weeks now, what can you say about it....
Great graphics, in town and through the lands. The crafting system also shows potential. Unfortunately thats about the total, and then only if you have a top of the range system (2G processor, 1G ram, 128M++ video card).
On the other side, the customer service is second to none - that is NONE. You won't get a response and they fix like 3 really minor bugs a day. The servers go down EVERY day for an hour during playing time. The crafting system is seriously broken in many areas (resource harvesting, unavailable components, using fletching to create an iron bar !). Finding a group is hard - there is very little talking, probably at least partly because the chat window settings don't get saved between sessions. Balancing is still being adjusted in major ways while playing. The prices of items are only now being worked on - last week "someone" decided to patch so that virtually ALL items would no longer be purchasable by NPCs, because no one had actually considered during the official beta what prices should be. Needless to say after much outrage this patch was reversed.
Basically the game has a lot of potential, but due to the treatment of customers by Sony, the lack of effort by them into actually improving anything, and the HUGE number of bugs, I'll be cancelling at the end of my free month.
Oh, and if you want more than 4 characters in total on ALL servers, they want and EXTRA 7$ a month.

its only a "grind" if u just kill stuff with no purpose (L2 and CoH come to mind as an example). i dont find that here. there is almost always some reward for the grind, almost always a purpose. i have yet to get sick of EQ2...and from someone that has played almost all mmos to date, thats saying something i think.

Soloing is fun, grouping is fun. Fighting is fun, doing tradeskills is fun. Gathering the materials to do tradeskills is fun. The game looks great and runs prefect.
So many small things that make this game interesting. Kill 500 of a mob, earn a title, kill more earn an elite title. Do writs to level up your guild. Harvest tradeskilling materials and find RARE materials that sell for lots. Get great quests off of drops off of scenery off of everything.
No need to worry about being able to afford equipment, there are quests for it if you look.
I've played a few MMORPGS and Everquest 2 has pleased me so far. It's very stable to me, although a few have had problems with other people in their apartment. It looks stunning, if it doesn't to you then you either need to upgrade or get your eyes tested. The music plays in the background without being too intrusive, though can get a bit over the top when you are trying to buy a shield lol. There is a lot to do, I'm always doing something. Anyone who says there is lots of downtime needs to play other mmorpgs, in EQ2 all you need to do is recover your spirit, if you are smart and know you are going to die then you will run to a safer place making recovery easier.
Soloing is doable, but this is a massive multiplayer game (maybe you are on the wrong website yeah?) and if you have trouble finding a group then you lack social skills because most other people are also looking for a group just don't have the LFG flag on. Grouping is the most fun in a mmorpg ever, because of heroic opportunities. Clerics/Fighters/Mages and scouts all have a role to play and no-one feels like a fifth wheel. No-one dares to leech or go afk either because you will die and share in group xp debt.
Not sick of EQ2 and doubt I ever will be there is just so much to do and I haven't even thought about starting an alt in Freeport yet.
I am at the point where I just want to level to see the rest of the game, so I started grinding solo MOBS which are around you just have to search really hard for them. Listed here are my problems with the game.
Shows XP and level in percentage. I hate this I like to see how much each MOB is worth in a number.
Darkness It might just be me and my monitor but it is so dark you can't enjoy the graphics
Only six players to a group. LIke the 20 players groups from SWG. That was fun but laggy.
The mana and sprint use the same bar so when your out of mana you can't run away this just sucks.
Agressive MOBS are everywhere. Most MOBS are agressive and pop on top of you. See below
Too fine a line between success and failure in groups. I have found that if you even get 1 addition to the fight you usually get a complete wipeout of the group. Most of my grouping deaths have come from some MOBS wandering around and just happen to find you fighting some of his friends and adds to the fight. Even solo if I happen to get a Pop and it adds I just run because I know I will die.
Forced Grouping - Alot of the quests are for group only, including the very important Armor Quests.
The tanking abilities are not good enough. The group is totally dependant on the tank.
Don't even get me started on the crafting. Dependent on the other crafers at level 10 is stupid, along with not being able to sell stuff while your adventuring.
I think if they just made alot of the mobs non-aggressive it would make the gameplay much better.
Since there are so many MMO's out there I will try to grind so I can see most of the content then start a different game.

So you want to be able to #complete# the game in what two months? Get real. Let's make mobs non-aggressive ROFL. Are you kidding me? It's not supposed to be a picnic in a park on a nice summer's day. Do you want Everquest 2 dumbed down even more?!
Originally posted by jimruk Shows XP and level in percentage. I hate this I like to see how much each MOB is worth in a number. I wouldn't mind numbers either, but it's better than nothing. Look at other games that give you no idea other than the bar. Darkness It might just be me and my monitor but it is so dark you can't enjoy the graphics. You might have it set on Extream Preformance. Sometimes inside caves or buildings EP will make everything look dark. Set it on Very High Preformance and see a differeance. But I'm a Barbarian and no where it is ever too dark to see. Only six players to a group. LIke the 20 players groups from SWG. That was fun but laggy. More than 6 players might get laggy, but 6 is kinda small...and I still can't figure out Raid parties. The mana and sprint use the same bar so when your out of mana you can't run away this just sucks. Yeah, kind of annoying. I like DAoC's better where you had a HP bar, Pow bar and Endorance bar. But it just means better planning. Agressive MOBS are everywhere. Most MOBS are agressive and pop on top of you. See below No way, we need aggro mobs, that makes it more of a fight than a picnic. Too fine a line between success and failure in groups. I have found that if you even get 1 addition to the fight you usually get a complete wipeout of the group. Most of my grouping deaths have come from some MOBS wandering around and just happen to find you fighting some of his friends and adds to the fight. Taunt or Shout whatever. I've been in groups and we pulled a Group encounter of 3 yellow mobs and during the battle had 2 add's of yellow mobs. It just takes ppl remaining clam and to tell the damn winnie preist not to run. Forced Grouping - Alot of the quests are for group only, including the very important Armor Quests. I haven't seen that yet. Guess I haven't done "that"quest. But I'm sure there is antoher way to get that type of armor you needed. The tanking abilities are not good enough. The group is totally dependant on the tank. Yes, group is dependant on the tank as well they should be. The tanks just need to be smart enough to know to pull mobs off other classes. Don't even get me started on the crafting. Dependent on the other crafers at level 10 is stupid, along with not being able to sell stuff while your adventuring. Not true, the dependent on other crafters. I'm only level 12 Outfitter, but if I need something I can craft it myself. Just takes more work, so if you just wanna do it quick you "can" depend on other crafters...remember the part of MMO. Now as for not being able to sell your stuff while adventuring, yeah that sucks. I hate the way you have to sell stuff...stand in your Apartment the whole time...ugggh!
Originally posted by ir0nfist After playing many many hours and different chars, I can say that EQ2 is a decent game, but at this point I feel that is has innate design flaws that kill it for me. Soloing is not viable. At lower levels it is, but once you start getting up there, if you want to see any worthwhile gain, you must group. This leads to a second complaint. Sure you can say that it helps people to help each other, but in all reality it doesn't. This is shared xp debt. On most of my chars I've died maybe max of 10 times on each. Normally caused by a total wipe deep in an area that makes it almost impossible to escape. XP debt breaks groups apart in a flash after a single wipe. The wipe normally being caused by players who will not listen to how they should play with other classes. My most recent char has been an enchanter. And in *many* groups, people will just not listen when you tell them to assist the MA. You'll have people fighting multiple mobs, a caster soloing another mob, tanks trying to control all aggro by hitting something once and just succeeding in breaking a mez. Now not everyone is like this. I have been in a *few* groups that actually understand how they should play. But that is not all that often, still when it is it is a breath of fresh air. Yeah, i could possibly join a decent guild with decent players and solve most of that, but there are others things besides this that hurt the game. I've run into a lot of seriously frustrating bugs, eg invis mobs in stormhold beating the crap out of you, causing multiple shard recoveries which just leads to more of the same situation. Invisible NPC's in buildings etc. The grind really starts kicking in as you level. Yes you can tradeskill, I've got a scholar and an outfitter. But you can only do that so much also. Monotony kicks in. Gratification takes too long to achieve for me. Shared debt adds to it. Sitting around waiting for groups with pointless solo content does not alleviate it. I've got 2 kids and a wife and a job. Even *if* I had as much time as I wanted to play, I don't think I would because it can just take soo long to level. No, it's not like first release of EQ1 long, but it's still very long without any real gratification. Only 4 char slots. I like to try out different chars to see which fits me best. I've already had to delete 3 decently leveled chars in order to do this and it sucks. Now they are allowing 8 slots, *if* you pay 7 bucks more per month. Another point, SOE CS is friggin horrible. You almost never see them post a response to anything significant. They won't even acknowledge certain problems eg mem leaks that seriously can impact gameplay. In only one place have I seen the mem leaks acknowledged by an SOE employee, and that was on eq2interface.com when speaking of creating gui's etc. But never would they acknowledge a problem on their own forums and admit they have a prob they need to fix. They make themselves a faceless corporation. Not good. Though alot of the game is excellent, I am finding that the combination of these things are driving me away, hence in the morning I'm stopping at the store and picking up WoW. I don't know if i will find the same things their that I do with EQ2, but i've been driven to it. With serious competition, SOE can't act like they are the only players out there anymore, but yet they still are acting as such. In the end, this will hurt them until they smarten up. And even if they do, people will still be left with a bad taste in their mouths. I'm not saying EQ2 will go down or anything. But it sure can take a hit. I think with peoples free months running out around this time, they are about to find that out. They are not the MMO gods they beleive themselves to be. This is all the way I am feeling now. Your experience may differ which would mean you have different expectations and different things amuse you. That's fine. I'm glad if you enjoy it and have not had problems. I'm just saying, I'm disappointed... very much so. I built my comp specifically for EQ2, and it has not turned out like I had hoped at all. It's really too bad. I so looked forward to it for years. C'est la vie.
I'm not here to bash you or anything but want to bring up a few points:
1) Grouping: This is an MMO, its not a playstation game or a FPS, grouping is always gonna yeild better rewards then soloing, and depending on your class soloing is viable, I still can do it now as a level 30 but I'm a warden...Do you really expect to get the same rewards for soloing as you do for grouping? If you do you are silly.
2) xp debt: In any MMO I've played there is always some penalty for dying. In EQ1 you lost xp. That still could break up groups. I personally would take some xp debt over losing a level. If you have problems with people not paying attention in groups don't group with them again.
3) leveling: sure it's gonna take a long time to level. Reason? Because they don't want you to level get bored and quit. The level cap is only 50 right now. Why be in a hurry to get there so fast?
Maybe if you had found a guild to join you would have had more fun. There are tons of things to do and let me tell you, I would take a guild group over a pick up group any day of the week.
I've not played WoW except in the stress test and hated it. Mainly because of the graphics and the gameplay was just dull. You level just the same, and there are just as many quests to do.
My advice, find a guild to join, its much more fulfilling then trying to roam the world alone.

I feel for you on the whiny priest thing .. my husband has had a few of those in his groups on his lower level alt ... as for me I'm usually the 1st or 2nd one to die, wtf is this running shit anyways?
on the raid party thing .. if you have a 2nd group of 2 or more you right click on that group leader and choose invite to raid or somthing close to that.

First of all, that's an amazing paragraph. It amazes me how people can pack so much incorrect information into so few words. They have taken the servers down to fix bugs and update things. You also then complain about them not fixing enough bugs. How should they fix bugs ... osmosis?
I find an occasional bug in the tradeskills, but it's really few and far between. What the heck are you doing to have so many problems with bugs.
I have never played ANY game which didn't have bugs, and there never will be any.
As for collecting trade components, it works absolutely fine. I am guessing you're probably just lazy and seeking to have them handed to you.
My chat window settings get saved. Can't imagine what's happening with yours.
As for finding groups, I see people trying to put groups together constantly and everywhere. Maybe if you didn't complain constantly ...
"Little talking"?? Man, on my server people never shut up. Half the time you have people complaining about too much chatter in public channels.
Balancing what? Things seem quite well balanced to me.
There was a temporary suspension of NPCs buying trade items due to an exploit - AS THEY ANNOUNCED. It was fixed by the next day. Not fast enough for you? Maybe next time they'll fix it instantly with the magic wand.
As for customer service, I know I am going to regret this, but I just have to ask what it is you people need customer service all the time for. I can play for years and hardly ever need CS. In my last three years of EQ1&2 I can think of three times I needed customer service ... once some stuff disappeared from a bag, once I accidentally erased a toon (don't ask, lol), and once somebody got into my account and messed up a toon. All three times they fixed things promptly. I am developing a theory that some of you think CS is the local babysitting and question answering service. "Wah wah I can't find any tin clusters .. fix it!" "Wah wah I can't find a group ... find me one". You petition for silly inconsequential things, and you don't get a response. Good. Means they are focusing on people who really need help.

My thoughts on his post exactly. I am still loving EQ2, my guild raids a couple times a week and I'm trying to catch up with them so I can go too. Access quests make dungeons even more elite than they were before, and while itemization is a bit off (that or we're killing stuff higher than they expect us to), I have found very few other frustrations with this game. I like everything better than every other MMO I've played, and I've played a lot.
Posts like these are just magnets for WoW fanbois who seem to feel the need to bash other games. If you don't like to grind and you don't like to group, then those are valid criticisms. Of course, why you would play an MMO in the first place if you don't like games like that is beyond me. Why would you take a break from CounterStrike to play EQ2? If you like to waterski every day would you take a break from waterskiing to try chess for awhile and then complain that it's too complicated and you always have to find someone else who knows how to play? That just doesn't make any sense.

i am already board with it, and i only played it for a week, i am gonn akeep my acount, becasue i have thr station all access pass, but, i might play it more int the future, for now, i am back to EQ 1, working to get to 70. been playing sinc dec. 25 2000, and still not even 60 with my main, and my main is the first char i i made on christams 2000, lol

yeah the quantity of the contest is huge. It encompasses so many game mechanics! ... NOT. I mean there is so much to do and achieve *rolls eyes again*.
And the quality of killing 50 slime balls or 10 rabbits to bake pie for NPC Ms.PieBaker is of the highest Quality.

My advice, find a guild to join, its much more fulfilling then trying to roam the world alone.

im enjoying it so far , and im really really glad i picked this from WoW i read they are reaching maxed lvls already over there in 2 weeks.
i would rather a grind then maxed lvls in less then a month.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.
I am loving it so far.... I have played just about every new release in the last 5 years and EQ2 has impressed me with the quality and quantity of the content.
*rolls eyes*
yeah the quantity of the contest is huge. It encompasses so many game mechanics! ... NOT. I mean there is so much to do and achieve *rolls eyes again*.
And the quality of killing 50 slime balls or 10 rabbits to bake pie for NPC Ms.PieBaker is of the highest Quality.
You should start a video game review website id be interested in signing up.
r1tual....get a fuckin life man. ALL you do is bash EQ2. If you don't like it, well I don't really give a shit. We all know by now you don't like EQ2. Let it go.
Oh shize.. ive yet to get the punch then ^^
