Pick a MMORPG??

Hi all

I have this Problem that i dont know what MMORPG i want to play since EQ1 SZ Server is dead. I tried EQ2 and that i have to say is CRAP!!! its borring all that game contains is "EyeCandy" loads of borring quests and fights there dont need skill what so ever...

So i look for a game there is PvP, need to have somekind of challange IE skills so you dont just look at the HPs go up and down like EQ2... I liked EQ1 cos there were ssooo many Playing styles like if you were a Nec you could fear kite, Agro kite and loads more... if you were a bard you AE kited until SoE fucked that up.. and so on...

I like Fantasy, Sci-FI and Horror RPs so i guess im looking for one of thies generes..

I have been thinking about Going back to AO since i only played that for 4 months right after release and do i have to bring that up it was horrible with all the Problems it had so i realy dont know if its any good. But since i saw this nice web pages i hope i could get alot of info with pros and cons for other MMORPGs...

I have been looking on alot of web pages about diffrent games but i have to see im drowning and it dont realy give me needed info on how the game accualy is.

To sum it allo up. I look for a Game there is PvP. it is Fantasy, Sci-Fi or Horror. its Fun and challenging.

I have Playing in the past. EQ1, EQ2, SB, AO, EvE, FFxi, WoW Beta, oohh yeah and Planetside if that counts *grin*

Please come if alot of ideas and info cos im getting borred to hell until my WoW get released (Yes i know It sucks to live in Euro)

WoW or City of Heroes. They are both fun games providing mindless fun.

Ya, its pretty much the same as every other EQ clone... pretty boring... the only innovative thing it did was create quest grinding instead of just killing mobs (which is what the quests consist of anyways)

OK whats good about CoH? i have heard about it is its very easy to play and you complete your toon in about 1 2 months and you have to wait for the new expansion ..... if so dont you think it has to little game play? or am i totaly miss informed? I mean im not a Power Gamer my self i play to have fun and not walk around like a mindless zombie waiting for the damn boss to pop every week to get my last Item.. all i have heard from a few Friends i have aquired over the years of MMORPGs is that CoH was way to easy.. So please let me hear your experince why its ssooo fun and shit like that.. since i was almost gonna buy that one until i was told it was not fun for long.

Yeah new MMORPGs is all about eyecandy to get all the teens to buy a new computer so they can set at there new computer just staring at the screen and say wwoooowwww its cool...

I have to say the game designers have lost track of what MMORPGs was such a great Idea in the first place... Playability Challenges Interaction loads of People to have fun. and not feel its a second job..

And i think that whats Blizzard has allmost done... so thats why i want to see when it goes retail in Euro, if they haev completed the task. So there you have it why i think WoW is gonna be the next great MMORPG cos they haev not lost track of why that type og game is great... WE NEED TO HAVE FUN every damn minut and not way a few days for it to be fun..

What is so challenging about WoW? Frankly its the easiet MMORPG i have played, and after the initial coolness factor wears off it feels just like any other EQ clone with lots of boring repetative quests.

Also CoH sucks in my opinion. Its extremly limited in what you can do, which consists of fighting and... oh ya, fighting. It is easily the most repetative and shallow MMORPG I have played. The "quests" consist of going into an instanced building and killing the enemies, getting an item and then rinse and repeat... wee. Also the game doesnt have any items, which was a turn off for me, you only get upgrades for your character. Character creation is good, but not customization

OK Sorry orcc i didnt mean WoW was challenging but its FUN to play...

So i wonder what MMORPGs do you like and why? instead of being so negative please come with some idea on your own, and why you think they are ssooo cool and if you know of FUN games there are challenging and still FUN without hour on hours of waste of time please tell..

I made this forum cos i want to know what is out there and how they are behind all the shit puplishers tell us.

I said WoW is fun, just not for very long.

Personally I liked UO. Its extremly open ended (both in terms of character customization and gamelpay), you are able to explore a huge amount of the world without being chased by extremly hard monsters because you stumbled into the wrong zone, it is the most realistic in a sense, it has its challenging parts (its not extremly hard but it is challenging to take on the tougher enemies), with the recall system it encourages exploration but then cuts down on the tedium of having to run back to the same place over and over, there is an optional way to PVP (you can take this as a positive or negative), there were live events, crafting was decently well done... the only thing I can tihnk of is that it didnt really have any quests, but I always had something to do anyways ::::28::

I havent played UO in four years and I personally think its become quite crappy judging from the look of things. So thats what game I foudn to be fun, challenging and doesnt feel like a job.

Have you played DOAC? It is really a great game and some of the best PvP to be found in MMOs today.

I would also suggest DAoC if you're looking for PvP. They recently overhauled their PvP with the New Frontiers expansion, and in my opinion its a lot of fun. You can even level up soley on PvP. Honestly out of all the MMOs I own, DAoC's the only PvP I've played where I didn't want to bang my head against the wall in frusteration.

I'm pretty sure they have a 14 day free trial if you'd like to test it out.

    CoH.

    Issue 3 come soon.

You can take a few months breaks and come back for CoV in the worst case if you only have a 1 or 2 months of wonder, at best you may love it and stick for good.

In CoH, the combats are fast and the challenge CAN be there, you just need to spend a little time to think on how making it more challenging(chain inviting peoples then entering your dungeon and kicking them out UP the challenge of your mission, I invite you to explain it to the players you invite so they are not to confused, especially if they send you a tell or something, they are just nice folks and since you need them, explaining them once or twice is a long term investment).  Grouping with folks 4 levels higher or lower then you certainly add a very interesting twist to the challenge.

Issue 3 is scarring me ATM, but I keep holding faith no matter what. image  I am a big baby and the talk of nerfing scared me, in fact, I dont care much for nerfing, I care for solo options, which is what I fear they will remove from the actual game.

CoH have no tradeskills, raiding or PvP atm, PvP is part of future plans(CoV).  CoH didnt make THAT much, but what they did, they did it fine!  I think pre-Issue 2 was better then post-Issue 2, hopefully they will learn and improve the game, if not, a competitor will eventually jump in.

If you didnt like WoW and already quit EQ and EQ2, I would suggest you dont even go checking DAoC, dont read me wrong, DAoC is a nice game, but WoW is an hybrid of EQ and DAoC, and since you dont like WoW, I dont see who you could love DAoC.

I say Dark Age of Camelot!!!

I was such a newb when I started.  I have an elf, since I saw a lot of dark elves around a city, I killed 1, I noticed it gave me lots of XP, so I kept killing more and more of them.  At some point, I talked to an NPC and offered me to do a quest where I had to either help these Undead people or the elves.  Somehow I had a bad faction with all elves since I killed the dark elves, so I ended up helping the Undead instead.

What was funny was the fact that now whenever I talk to an elven NPC, I'm considered a traitor to my race and whenever I meet some of the undead, they love me.

I suggest you try out the 7 day trial of DaoC first.  BUT PLEASE, do not hate the game because of the graphics!

In the 7 day trial, you have no expansion!  With the 2 first expansions, it makes all the landscapes in the game nicer, and you will only see that if you buy the Platinum Edition of DaoC!

Cause after you fall in love with the gameplay, you can buy the Platinum Edition to improve all landscapes and buy the Catacombs expansion to improve all the player graphics and NPCs graphics!  So thanks to all the expansions, the entire game looks like a newer generation MMORPG!

  • sqwigginssqwiggins Member Posts: 286

wow there were a lot of off topic talk but anyway i would say if you are looking for a good PvP ame it would have to be DaoC i think it is still the best PvP game out there and its easyier then it was befor to lvl now that they added the free lvl system so you wont have a hard time to start with PvP there is also realm vs realm witch starts at lvl 5 and although i havent played linage 2 i have seen reviews saying that it has good PvP game play

    hope some1 reads this

Out of the games available at the moment, I would have to say DAOC. WOW does have a few cool things about it, but not enough to make me play it. City of Heros got WAY freakin boring real quick. I'm personaly waiting for WISH to come out. Until it does, DAOC is for me.

I took a second look at WoW and it (with the exception of the animation & character appearance) impressed me. The only thing that bothers the heck out of me is that the arms of every male character in WoW are like bigger than their torsos. Also, the gnomes just look (for lack of a better word) stupid. They're gnomes - not body building midgets with dum looks on their faces. Anyway, the rest is pretty good. image

balanced in what way? balanced with regard to fun or balanced with regard to hunting/fighting?
