Well if they do self publish, that faithful few will be really small. I would hope The Aventurine would be smart and have a decent publisher to help the game grow. How ever with that said I do think they are self publishing like you said.
They were self publishing before the game was out and the entire MMO very exicted about it. They self publsihed when the servers came on line and people came in mass. They are still self publishing now even though many players have quit but regardless, publishers do not write code so I really dont see how it matters.
"People came in mass".
Ummm...you do realize that by *any* standard, their start-up was one of the smallest in MMO history, right?
They had a tiny number of players to begin with, and their retention rate is dismal. They may have had players "very excited" before they opened the servers, but that "excitement" disappeared as soon as players got to see the actual state of the game.

Heh... you are new to MMOs.
Nothing about DarkFall's release had anything resembling "people came in mass".
DarkFall so far has been a micro-MMO.
No P2P MMO has had as small of a release. None.
And Aventurine did not claim to self-publish DarkFall by the way. A few of us speculated that they in fact did... but they never officially admitted that.
Aventurine is the company writing the code. They are the ones that made Darkfall. They are the ones that are implementing the Expansion. They are the ones most likely publishing the game. They are the same company. Understand? So if they Self publish in NA, and still are charging $50.00 for a new client and saying they have to because they have a different publisher, they are blantantly lying. You don't see a problem with this?
not exactly but I think you and I are talking about two different things.
I am asking why does it matter who is publishing the game.
I am not sure what your point is regarding the question of who is the publisher.
Just read this thread, You have even responded to some of them.

Umm.... Really?
Did you even look at the title of the thread that you've been replying in for the last week or so?
See it's comments like that one that really make us question your age, and experience.
It makes us all stop and think...
Did he really just say that? Does he even have reading comprehension?
You can't respond to questions and debate said questions for days on end and then come back a few days later and say that you weren't even aware of the topic. Come on now... that is just being disingenuous at it's highest.
Just read this thread, You have even responded to some of them. I for one am now done with you.
I ask questions becuase what you say doesnt make any sense based on what I said.
My best guess is that you are stating that you are upset that AV might have lied about who is publishing.
While my question and reply was not related to that at all but more of a question why do publishers matter.
But see that is the point.
We've moved beyond your question.
Even you stated that we moved beyond it.

So are you just trolling now?
sorry but what you have cut and pasted there and what you are refering to isnt even related to your response to my statement being completely out of context to what I was talking about.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

So you weren't discussing why the publisher was even important before?
You aren't asking why the publisher is important now?
Please elaborate how that would be "completely out of context"?
I suppose we could resort to DarkFall supporter tactics and report your posts for being Off Topic then?
The title of the thread clearly states the question.

Me: "what does a publisher have to do with the game"?
Answer: "AV lied about who the publisher is"
sorry but the answer doesnt actually answer the question.

Bro, Never Winter Nights is not a peristant world, nor is it massive. Your ignorance is astounding and your posts are so raught with jaded ideas, it's hard not to imagine you as anything other than a young kid, just starting out playing games. Nothing you've said in the last 100 posts illustrates you have a firm grasp on gaming history, mechanics or even gameplay.
You've crossed yourself so many times, I'd almost guess that you are a fake account for trolling.... as nobody can be this naive ...!
You cannot even grasp something as simple as how important it is to know who the publisher is of a game, let alone lies or misconceptions. Looking through your post history, there cannot be a bigger troll within these forums, as you've not grasped a single idea or arguement yet!
I highly doubt you are in your 30's.. as I've never met a thirty year old who is so absolutely clueless.

ok this is slightly off topic but its worth mentioning that NWN DOES have PW worlds and I should know becuase I made one myself.
Its not "massive" that is true. But there is an online community and a few of the mods are extreemly similar to existing MMOs.
That said, IN THE CONTEXT of the conversation NWN is does work like MMO as it applies to what we were talking about which was related to company communitcating to its community. The only difference is you dont pay monthly.

Really...? You made a MMORPG? Based off Never Winter Nights? Who was your publisher and how long did that game world last..?
No, NWN was a lan based game... with elements of D&D, RTS and linear progression. There was never a persistant world and you are incredible ignorant to thinkso. Matter of fact, there was nothing in the context of which you were speaking that directly reflects any points others were making.
SEAN..
I would have to say that your reign of playing a fake account on these boards is over. You're playing dumb and making even "dumber" arguments.. as nobody would pose themselves as this lost and incoherent. You are trolling for the sake of trolling and can no longer be taken seriously.
Your ramblings are just for your own amusement, as I am sure you are laughing at every response someone makes to your childish posts. Your account is probably a dupe account that you log onto, to have some fun and stir the boards up...

Don't be surprised if we see a new member show up soon.
After reading SEANMCAD's posts, i've decided to block him as well. He will join the likes of darth and javac. They do not belong here, they belong to the LALA-land they live in. Have a nice new account.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
Just wanted to to bump this in the hopes that someone has some new information.
The closer it gets to monday with no announcement of the publisher the more I suspect Av is self publishing for the NA release.
I really don't understand why they haven't announced yet. Especially when Tasos made it a point to say that they were only charging for the NA client because of the publishers rights.
New server opens on monday, who the hell is the publisher?

I think it would be a very bad move for Aventurine to self publish the game. What they need right now is a good publisher to help sell the game.
I do find it odd that being this close to NA release, that no one has heard anything. If they do have a publisher you wold think that, that company would be talking, trying to generate interest in the game. After all Publishers are in the market to make money. The best way to do that is sell the game.
Well according to Darkfall's forums the new NA website is going up Monday. Does that mean the the sales will start then also? Or is it that the NA release will be delayed again?
I don't like the fact that I don't know who the publisher is, or who will be doing the billing. I didn't buy the EU version due to that fact. They have a company for the billing that as far as I can tell is not a well known company, and look at the problems that was posted with all the double billing etc.
Aventurine has done a good step forward with the last expansion/patch. I still need another step woth more information on the publisher.

Of special note.
They make a joint announcement of the release date.
They make special note of DarkFall's "partners" joining at a late date for the reason of the delay from 1-22 to 2-25.
Anyway, it's like everything else regarding DarkFall and Aventurine... they just can't come out and tell the truth.
