What's the big deal? Mythic has a wealth of experience when it comes to the MMO market, and they can probably offer quite a good angle of approach for BioWare to produce their first massive online game. I know I would love to see some of the PvP concepts from WAR and DAoC introduced to TOR, but I don't know how PvP-centric BioWare is willing to make their game.
DrChicken.. i agree on RvR being implemented ...in any game really. As for a wealth of experiance.......i have watch them slowly destroy a great game in DAOC over time ( trails of atlantis being the nail in the coffin for me). One of the biggest DRAWS to Warhammer was the name Mythic .. you could have named warhammer googlywoogly and we would have flocked to the game. I was hoping no.. no i was expecting a more polished and engaging game from the likes of a Mythic company.. that didn't happen ( i don't need to give out points that have not already been pointed out and beaten to death since that games first month)
Now they are gonna help with the development.. for bioware.. c'mon!

Mythic and experience? That is long gone.
Just look at WAR! You really want the most boring, blant, monotone fake RvR system from that game into SW:TOR?
Yup cause Bioware are giving Mythic full creative control of the game and Lucas arts is fine with whatever they do.......
The thing you have to understand is the game is pretty much set in stone from the near beginning. So if you're in the last year of development and it hasn't turned out so great, well theres nothing much you can do but try to improve on what you already have. You can't then go and scrap the whole game cause people think it's bad. You have to launch it because you just wasted tens of millions and you need to recover the costs or everyone loses a job.
On a serious part now, i stated my two cents 2 weeks ago in the other thread regarding the takeover of mythic by BioWare.
You guys have to understand that in any company, even if they produced a problematic product ( in our case WAR ) the guys working there are not morons, they good at theyr jobs and they are suposed to be EMPLOYEES. If Mark Jacobs - the exboss - said they have to do that, well, they did that... but that is not at all a blame on the programmer that writed the codelines. Now MJ is gone, BioWare management come in ( and try be honnest, BioWare track is impresive in managing projects ) and they are reorganizing the stuff... based on two simple reasons - WAR is dead or at least dieing, imposible to save, so, a scheleton crew is created to manage the servers and keep them running for at least 1 year this all is over, no point to waste time and money to save that rotting game... rest of the people, the creme de la creme of Mythic is just reasigned to work on ToR to help speed thing up and provide Austin BioWare more resources... they are not having any imput in the game concept, be sure that was sealed and done years ago.
So, happy that my statements from 2 weeks ago come true, let's hope that this more menpower for ToR will speed up the finishing of the game and for us should be good news - beta maybe starting 3 months earlyer ?

Like i said in another post, Mystic people will only give ideas, help make what Bioware wants in Biowares game and get the Bioware people their lunch. Bioware will make a good game and PvP system and leave the S*** that WAR and DAoC had in them in the gutter.
don't know why people are making such a big fuss.....TOR's basic gameplay is done (as per dev way back saying the game is playable and needs polish), there's nothing mythic can really do. It sounds more like they are borrowing the devs for some ideas and programming to move it along faster....
All Mythic's employees are going to do is provide assistance in completing the game, I would expect the creative vision and control will always remain with Bioware.

Assist can mean a couple things from actually developing aspects of the game to just being on an advisor. Just because Mythic may help them doesnt mean the game is going down the toilet. The game doesnt come out until late next year so lets not jump to conclusions.
Played : WOW, LOTRO, COH/COV, EQ2, SWG, and WAR. Playing EVE Online and AOC. Wtg for SW:TOR and WOD
First of all yes WAR was a bad game...Why was it so bad is they took to much time on the pvp aspect and very little time on the pve aspect. Instances were a joke to them and they tryied to make it as much unlike wow as they could. Bioware and LA is not going to Release TOR without everything they have learned both LA and Mythic have launched bomb titles in the past. SWG in its time was a great game now its a shell of a game it once was. Mythic has released WAR and Daoc WAR failed yes but Daoc was a great game in its time I played it for 14 months before SWG came out.
To sit there and think this game is going to fail just cause Mythic is helping with the production is not only stupid but un founded. Bioware has a good track record and needed some MMO help glad they went to Mythic vs SOE or NCsoft.. Name one company other then blizzard that has a amazing MMO (States not korea) and has ran it for years as a top Tier game?
SOE did not make EQ what it was EQ made it what it was, it was the first 3D MMO of its class (UO was first but 2d and still a great game) EA has a track record as well but UO still has a pretty big comminuty and its almost 15 years old... I like That bioware went were they did cause if they went to SOE we all would be singing a diffrent toon.
Why are there so many damned doomsayers on these forums??
Let me spell it out for you:
Bioware and Mythic are now both part of EA.
Bioware has tons of RPG experience, but 0 PvP experience.
Mythic has tons of PvP experience (RVR, etc.).
Bioware has promised to have something for everyone (including the PvP crowd) in SW:TOR.
Therefore, Bioware NEEDS Mythic's experience in regards to PvP. They have the RPG elements already laid out and are just putting the final polish on everything... But they have NO experience when it comes to PvP.
Just because one EA company is helping another EA company on ONE ELEMENT of their game does not mean that they are giving complete creative control to them.
Personally, I am rather glad that Mythic is helping Bioware with the PVP elements of TOR. Mythic has a track record for being able to pull off meaningful PvP. They have learned from their mistakes with WAR and the community feedback and they can ensure that those mistakes do not occur with TOR. This indicates to me that they are implementing PvP as a core feature and not an afterthought. I have to say I'm pretty pleased by that.
Why are there so many damned doomsayers on these forums??
My guess is they do not read what is in the game and the info about it so they whine when they see something like this. Either that or pissed off WAR, SWG and KotoR players
What people seem to foget is that the bulk of this game is already complete. BioWare's ideas would all be set in stone, or on it's way there. Mythic will simply be an asset there to use if they need them, which i think BioWare is smart enough to not let them touch there cash cow. Pretty sure Lucas Arts wouldn't want them near there baby either, so everyone just relax!!
Personally, I'm excited to see Paul Barnett spazzing out in video blogs, this time hyping TOR, or him jumping around on stage at game cons, acting like a cracked-out chimpanzee with a Sith logo airbrushed on his pants.

Mythic also has SCREWED up their pvp multiple times.
DAOC - Buggy pets, LoS issues, Animists shroom placements, Nuking through walls/doors (bainshees, vamps), Class Imbalances ,Trials of Atlantis artifacts turned pvp upside down. New Frontiers made tanks worthless in sieges for many months.
Warhammer- Buggy pets, Poor Siege weapon designs, Crowd Control issues, multiple nerfs/boosts to classes months after release for things that were blatently obvious to beta testers but ignored, abilities not working properly, resists not working well after release. Another PVE expansion which is having a negative effect on RvR.
If anything, I"d rather the only help Mythic gives Bioware is a copy of Warhammer and access to the warhammer, mmorpg, and vn boards to read every thread about war's fabulous pvp as an example of what not to do.
don't know why people are making such a big fuss.....TOR's basic gameplay is done (as per dev way back saying the game is playable and needs polish), there's nothing mythic can really do. It sounds more like they are borrowing the devs for some ideas and programming to move it along faster....
You're talking about the same Mythic that DECREASED performance on launch, broke resists, and added a bunch of untested stuff on launch. Or maybe you are thinking of the devs that came up with and planned to release the "winds of change" that limit players in open world RvR...or maybe the 100+ other bad ideas they had *cough* Mythic seconds *cough*.
You keep assuming they can't possibly break anything or give HORRIBLE ideas. I'm sure there are a few good people at Mythic but honestly you can't get to the level of bad that is WAR without 90% of your staff not having a clue/brain.
You know what I really find funny at least half or more of the people who are saying TOR will fail now are going to be playing the game at launch. They just wanted to complain since there is nothing else to do until launch,
If you think the game is going to fail fine then do not play the game there are plenty of medicore and sub par MMO's out there to play. I for one am glad that Bioware had enough sence in thier head to get help with a game then say "yeah we know what we are doing" release a unfinished game to the public then do what LA did with SWG pretend there is no problem and move forward with 4 years of makeing things worse.
Yet people seem to think mythic is the bad company in all of this when most of you have not touched the fact LA owns the rights to star wars they can at anytime tell Bioware what to do with the game. I am more worried about LA then mythic and you should be too.
I won't be trying the game at launch. I'm going to wait and see how the game goes before I fork over any money on it. This doesn't have anything to do with Bioware, except I'm not sure what their pvp concepts are going to be like.
As for LA , they aren't programming the game. Much of what is said here is tongue in cheek. Bioware has their dept. execs and have a vision for the game, as long as they stick to their vision things should be ok on that front. And at this stage of the game Lucas Arts has probably signed off on most of the concepts already.
But having any Mythic coder, developer, programmer, etc writing for KoToR should be a red flag simply because Mythic has shown time and time again they cannot release a polished product that isn't bug ridden.

More programmers = faster game development.
Lets just hope Bioware will weed out the bad ones.
