Things I would like to be kept the same: pve team system

Things I would like to see changed: all the rest

The only thing I'd really like to see is the complete and utter destruction of all third party programs. That and maybe add a hip-hop gangster like moogle ....... wait ... that has been done already >.>

    What I keep.

    Limited characters per server 1-3

Changing jobs on a single character was awesome

Dual job spec made stategy possibly with your character

Group play and amazing community/While adding in some solo content. (Just keep in mind..the more solo you add the more you lose that community)

Quests for advanced jobs.  Only starting out with a few game us something to shoot for.

    What I change.

More Variety in looks both character appearance and gear.  SE really needs to allow us to more customize our characters. I agree we don't need a slider bar for every attribute you can think of but a few would be nice so every toon doesn't look the same in the face.

More variety of classes that can heal so groups dont take forever to get started.

I liked the secondary job spec I think they should have a higher level cap and add a tertiary job spec that is active at half the level of your secondary

NO gil farmers.  Take EVERY precaution necessary to remove them from the game. Perma-ban players who buy gil dont just ban their account ban their IP/credit card/name and so on

Wow, seems like most of you just want a FFXI replacement.  Not a smart move on SE's part since they still make good money with the original.  Seems like they would want to tap into other markets instead of shutting down their bread winner by competing with themselves.  If they want to increase their market share, they're going to have to make this game significantly different from it's predecessor in regards to content and mechanics and even the graphics style.

If they make it too similar to FFXI, then SE deserves to go bankrupt due to their stupidity.

With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal

I think the thought here is that FFXI is a solid decent game.  But there's much room for improvement. Also there's no real detriment to sticking to a style and game experience that you know works.  For instance: Granted EQ2 isn't anything spectatuclar but it's still bringing in the bucks for SoE and really the only thing that changed in that game was a bit of history and graphics, yes they added some new game systems but EQ2 with the exception of the change to geography is close the same game as EQ1 just beefed up. Same world and everything.

They've already said they are going to keep a lot of elements from FFXI likely jobs, definately races but it's not even the same world plus what we've heard so far they are going to make it different in many ways.

Anyway like the quote, too true.

And look where that got them.  EQ2 was expected to bring in millions of new players and ended up in the 200K range.  They stole some of their own EQ Live players to make matters worse.  Now both games are the raid or die paradigm and therefore they will never increase their market share with either of those games.  I'm not interested in the same old crap with slightly improved mechanics.  I want wholesale change and I guarantee there are a lot of people like me in that regard.  Not only that, but there's the still huge single player market that hasn't really been tapped yet due to the same old MMO paradigms.  They're never going to appeal to those people if they don't make some real changes and even the most die hard MMO players will eventually get sick and tired of this stagnant genre.

Single player... online?  The point of that is?

The sad truth of EQ2 and any game that comes out is that there is World of Warcraft.  SoE's problem wasn't how they built their game but because of their competition. WoW is a beast and a beast that appeals to every tpye of gamer. Even people who aren't gamers play WoW. It will take quite a fantastic game to topple Blizzard's juggernaut, FFXI was THE game before WoW and EQ2 hit the market.  ANyway I dont really know where I'm going with that probably somewhere that makes no sense like FFXI + Steroids could topple MMO giants like Blizzard I dunno.

Either way players are already tired of this stagnant genre of game, they all wind up the SAME wheras FFXI was different in multiple aspects and I think everyone wants to see that recreated.

Oh 1 more thing to change:

Give us more to do than just level and craft.

#1   Faster paced combat, with MUCH more to do in combat for melee jobs... I'm SO Tired of auto attacking and waiting until I get enough TP to use ONE Button.  YAY!  I waited 2 minutes to hit one button!   <-- THIS IS NOT FUN  (for example warrior/nin)

#2.  Make soloing possible but make grouping ideal.   This is important, what ever system they are using instead of EXP make it give you enough of a bonus in grouping to where you will want to do so over soloing.  However I hated how most classes couldn't even kill easy prey mobs by themselves.

#3.  Balance classes a little.   Everyone knows Rdm/nin's can solo things nothing else can even come close to.

#4.  New Races.  (I love the fact they have the old ones with new names and new looks, however please throw in a few new ones too.

#5.  Character customization to rival that of modern MMO's  (Aion, APB, Fallen Earth, all of those kind)

#6.  Make traveling still an adventure.   The first time I went to Jueno it was FANTASTIC, I can remember the feeling of wonder... keep that in the game, dont pull a "planes of power"  like EQ1 did and have portals everywhere how WoW does now.

#7.  Side games!   Why not have those taverns have Fable-esk drinking games in them y ou can play with your friends?

#8.   Make gear obtainable.   Having to grind for a month to get a Haubergeon was not a fun thing to do, sure it wasn't so bad to get one 7 years in, but honestly at release it was borderline impossible to get decent gear without an insane amount of time invested.

#9.   If there are NM's make a large amount of them FORCE POPED!   Most people don't enjoy sitting around in Quick sand caves for 6 hours waiting on one freakin Ant to spawn just so you can get out claimed by a Red mage who walks up at the last second.

#10.  Make a lot MORE gear!    Frankly the only real choices you had gear wise was once you got to max level in FFXI, why not have more over lapping lower level gear so people look different and can customize their character more lower level.

#11.   Crafting.   Make it less tedious but maintain a certian level of difficulty.    I don't like how easy WoW's is but I don't like how insanely hard FFXI's is, there must be a happy medium.

#12. Gathering nodes need to be in greater number, its really hard to find them sometimes if even ONE other person is gathering in the same zone.

These are just off the top of my head...

LOL.. I was thinking the same thing when I was reading that...

I'm thinking "Hmm.. Dynamis.. Assault... Besieged... Campaign... Missions... Quests..."

It's a wonderful example, I think, of how some people will limit their own gameplay, despite having myriad options, and then blame it on game limitations.

Man, it goes to show how many people are either simply stating a typical experience they had or just simply being a troll.

Some great comments here and some great memories!  I truly do miss FFXI.  I played it for 5 years and had the best gaming experiences, MMO or not, of my life.  The friends, the community, and the storyline made you feel like a part of the world.  I do know I saved alot of real money during my playtime in FFXI!

Random thoughts here, so bare with me:

    - As my 75rng, I camped Argus and others to help feed my spending habits.  I think Argus had a 36 hour pop time if I recall.  Camping NMs  had burned images on to my LCD TV screen lol.  Maybe they should reduce the spawn timers down to 8-12 hours for all mobs.  Just change the drop rate per mob based on rarity.

    - Character customization.  A little more than 6 faces and 6 hairstyles would be great.  I had a brown haired male elvaan.  When I got to level 60 or so, I wanted to change his hair to white(kind of like getting older).  Wish you can change hair styles, colors, and facial hair in FFXIV.

-Was cool to see special parties being made later on, IE burn parties, Monk parties, even DRG parties in FFXI.  Would be even better to have more mobs that have certain weakness but unannounced.  Maybe burn parties would work at level 36 more in this zone than a standard party would or a ranged party etc.  The burn party wouldn't need a tank, maybe the ranged party wouldnt need a refresher, etc.

-Different types of monsters in zones.  Ok, I'm level 34 and I will go to Crawler's Nest.  Maybe we could fight more than 2 types of mobs.  As someone mentioned earlier, I do like fighting the same type of Mob throughout the game as you get to know what to expect, but something needs to be done here.  Mob customization or more families of mobs need to be introduced.

-Loved the crafting.  That 3-5 seconds before you know if you made a +1 or +2 item was full of excitement/nervousness.  I think some better rewards from the trainers as you advanced in rankings would be cool.  A couple of quests added would also be a nice touch.

-All servers should be integrated with all nations, but you should be allowed to pick the server.  I loved the fact that if I am up one morning at 6am and dont have to work, I can probably party with some Japanese for 3-4 hours then search for US parties around 10am.  75-80% of the time I was accepted and after I played with some of them, I made friends and was re-invited to new groups.  Sometimes that wasn't the case but there are A-Holes in every country.

-Acquiring the Maps in the new areas(Sky, Sea) should be a little bit easier to obtain imo, sort of the reward for unlocking the zone.

That's all I can think of at the moment.  Can't wait!

Man just goes to show not everyone knows something about which they speak.

When I played FFXI pretty much all there was, was leveling and crafting.. oh and growing shit in our houses.  It got boring..  Yes there were missions, they got boring.

Now I havent played FFXI for well 2 or 3 years.  So if they've added things since release I appologize but I have not experienced them.

    What game am I playing?

None, I'm waiting for something decent to surface.  Maybe FFXIV will be that something decent, maybe not.

Edit: you guys might want to consider.. Not everyone posting here is presently playing FFXI.

The last time I played was soon after Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion came out. I had a 75 paladin and 72 bard. I don't know if I'm in the minority here, but I would prefer that they have seperate servers for the different regions. Although you could occasionally get invited to a nice group, I found many of the Japanese players to be stuck up and never willing to give the American players a chance. You would translate to them that you don't speak Japanese and they would say [english][no thanks], or something like that. I never experienced the other way around where an english speaking group would refuse to invite a Japanese player. I always felt like the Japanese saw us as uninvited guests in "their game". One of the reasons I stopped playing.

lol yep. if I remmeber right anyone would've loved to get a japanese player(s) in their group because they were better at the game than us.

I actually got into one of those grps all japanese for an hour or two once. the exp gain was amazing to say the least.
