In two years will we all be wondering what the Aion killer with be ?

googajoob7googajoob7 Member Posts: 866

Everything about Aion suggests its likly to be the most successful game since Warcraft . There is very little negativity about the game in the forums and what there is seams to have very little substance at the moment . So maybe we are about to see the first major competition to Warcraft ( which had to happen sooner or later because lets face all games have a shelf life or we d all still be playing pong ) . i wonder in a couple of years we ll all be talking about what the aionkiller will be and i wonder if there will be as many fanbois saying that theres never going to be such a thing . ...... lol

If I could get the damn client to install I'd be happy to ponder this and other Aion-related questions with you!

I doubt that,in two years the player base will be spread out among different MMOs and I honestly don't think any subscription based game will top the 3 millions players.

You know after all this time, you would think people wouldn't fall for the hype of any new game.

  • BlazeyerBlazeyer Member UncommonPosts: 562

Just a few things to point out.

#1 This type of hype happens with every big developer MMO coming out. I'm sure everyone recalls the massive hype and then let down of games such as WAR, AOC, Vanguard and many others.

#2 There are already games people want to play more than Aion. (FFXIV and SWTOR)

#3 WoW isn't going anywhere. Honestly, who cares if something is the next "killer". From my experiences with 80% of the WoW community (both in and outside of the game), I would perfer it if Bliz kept most of their players.

I don't plan on playing this game, but I hope its fun and as good as advertised. I don't understand why there has to be one all powerful MMO to rule them all. If you like the game, play it.

    1. Aion is different. People are not going by hype. People are actually playing this game and falling in love with it. When people played War, AOC and Vaguard most of them came back with negativity about those games. I was one of them because I bought all 3. This is not happening with Aion. Most people are comming back saying how good and polished the game is.

    2. People will always have there eyes set on future games. When FFXIV and SWTOR are close to release people will be talking about the next batch of games that are comming afther those. Probaly Elder Scrolls Oblivion Online, Lineage 3 or Everquest 3 or what ever. Also not everybody is looking forward to FFXIV and Star Wars.

No, i really dont think we will.

WoW brought millions of console and casual pc gamers to the MMO genre... i cant see Aion being nearly as revolutionary.

Aion will take a few players from the more traditional community that started with DAOC, UO, Diablo, EQ, Neocron and what not and then some from the WoW community. But it certainly wont 'Kill' WoW.

SW:ToR will have a huge number more subs than Aion in the Western world. Though im sure many eastern gamers may stick with Aion. Im not sure how popular Star wars is with Koreans/Chinese/Japanese.

Too early to think about an Aion killer considering Aion players are still in the honeymoon phase.

I agree with everything you said.

    Short answer: no.

    Long answer: definitely no.

    Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN

  • I really don't think that SWTOR is going to be the smash Star Wars hit that everyone hopes it will. (I'm one of them people hoping it will be, as I'm a huge Star Wars fan).

The reason being is that this game (SWTOR) is going to require a huge amount of reading and/or paying attention to details. There are more words in SWTOR than in the entire series of the Soprano's. (Read that in the news on AP). This is America. We aren't known for our ability to "want" to read and actually use our brains when it comes to playing MMO's. Otherwise, WoW would never have taken off like it did over here.

Aion is a bit formulaic. It's a good game, maybe even a great game, but formulaic. I do understand that MMO's have to follow a formula to some extent. But I think the next huge game is one that is going to have to be not only very different than what is out there right now, but it's going to have to be easy to latch on to with a shallow learning curve, so that it will be able to pull in the subs from WoW.

The game's performance given graphical quality is the best to date, but the game's combat is merely CoH's with an added combo system that merely functions as a restriction on skill usage; it lacks the kind of sophistication that is found in EQ2, WoW etc.

For me that is a really big issue, but the utility of the majority is an unknown to me, so it might break a million in the US.

What subtle complexity makes it impossible for a person who is mentally retarded to play Aion well? I really don't see it. At all.

Hmm read? What you are talking about is a full voice over that spans the complete TV show of sopranos. There is nothing to read there.

No game that has pvp as it's main focus will be huge in North America. I would be surprised if it can reach 200k population and even more if it could hold on to the population if it does.

  • OmiragOmirag Member UncommonPosts: 276

Nothing will ever kill WoW since it is so easy to pick up and has the player base already. I dont like WoW, at all, but the only thing that will ever supass WoW in subscriptions is WoW 2. PERIOD! (god save us)

No game with forced PvP will ever reach the popularity of WoW outside of the asian countries.

While I hope Aion does well, the majority of people in Western cultures just are not interested in PvP.

    Pointless thread to be honest.

The game could be a massive flop yet and could kill it self very soon after release.

  • lornjlornj Member Posts: 334

you wont have to wait long once SWTOR comes out. this game will start to collect dust after that.
