    Depend on the game really.

UO's monthly fee is fine. 12.99

Darkfall's monthly fee is also fine. 14.99

However, I wouldn't pay a monthly fee for vanilla games like WoW, Aion, LOTRO, etc.

I'm playing Final Fantasy XI. $12.95 a month. Very reasonable. Anything over $15 a month get a pass over. There are no mmorpgs worth more than $15 a month currently, and I don't foresee any in the near future.

My 3 EVE subs run me about 15 bucks a month each. (USD)

    Worth every cent.

Depends on the game. A game like swg only polished with content. 50 a month, because it's the only game I need. Usually need 4-5 games now to get that. So..more than likely 0-15 depending on what it offered.

I had 2 EVE accounts . . . kicking myself for selling/giving away all my stuff.

Honestly, I think paying $15 for an MMO is a pittance. You go to the movies and pay $15 for a chance at a good time or a waste of time.

I'd easily pay $50 a month if the game could guarantee no ebayers/bots and it was worth it. Hell, i'd pay $100 if I could get everything I want with the requisite huge amounts of neurotransmitter release to my reward centers of my brain.

I just don't understand how people think $15 per month is even remotely expensive but that's just me.

The only game I'm subscribed to at the moment is EvE ($14.95 /US). I have enough monetary leeway to have 4-5 subscriptions going based on our household budget for my entertainment (my wife and I have separate budgets or allowances for entertainment on a bi-weekly basis). So I guess that shows that I don't think anything else is worth their current offered subscription rate. I must add I would have an Asheron's Call sub running but I can't fight through their "port settings deathtrap" to be able to connect to the game.

I'm not sure I'll hold on to the EvE account past the point World of Darkness online comes into being. I enjoy EvE for what it is but I prefer a little more active input to character advancement. Like in AC. Skills advanced by spending XP earned on the skills to "up" them. If EvE had that, well, it'd be nice.

If Turbine made Asheron's Call 3 and used the same game systems/mechanics but updated them for improvements, and updated their graphics engine to what they are using for LOTRO, then I'd probably pay $20/month for it. I don't think I'll ever pay more than $15/month for a level based game again*.

*There are a few exceptions, but not naming them as I'd prefer them made skill based.

In old EQ 1 they came out with a "premium server" for a bit that offered GM events, unique content to the server, 24x7 support online, etc...  $40 US a month.  Not a problem so I subscribed and played there until they gutted the unique features and certain exploits were implemented on it.  I went back to the regular servers at that point.

That was back many years ago.  For the right mix of features, support, effects, etc...  I'd have no problem coughing up that much or more but not for the same thing with a different wrapper that we see a lot of these days.  Why the hell would I pay more for nothing extra?  So provide the extra then ask how much it'd be worth to me...

    about $10 a month.

Actually, scratch that. No game is worth over $170 (box plus a year subscription)

Even the best games are over priced if there price is over 15 dollars a month.

I won't pay over $15 for any current MMO.  I will pay more than that when MMOs are on a completely different level than what they are now.

You would pay $100 a month?  HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLL NOOOOOO! $15 a month isn't expensive at all.  I just don't think anything is worth more than that at the moment.  Shit, most games aren't even worth $15 a month right now.  The max I would be willing to pay for something much, much, much, better than what we have now, is $30.

14,99 is the limit i would pay for any MMORPG.

Games that are worth 14,99/month or more to me

    EVE online

    EQ2

    LOTRO

    AoC

everything else either should lower their price or go FTP, except for SWG. it shoudl just drop dead

i would also like to see games that are dying down or have been out for a while to lower their prices. im sure WoW could aford to go for a 9,99$/month plan.

and those who say that you do not understand how 15$/month is alot for some, think that many of us are in school and out only revenu comes from part time jobs. I myself am a full time university student and i am living on my own. a part time job get me rent/food/internet/electricity/phone . and i have about 50-75$ left for entertainment and trasportation(gas) so 15$ is a big chunk

There isn't a game currently out that I'd pay a thing for, unfortunately.  I WOULD however happily pay $50 a month for quality game with content, no ingame affecting MTs and staff presence for things such as behavior enforcement and events for players.

It's strange to me that developers haven't picked up on the amount of money they could charge for a QUALITY product when the craptastic ones do as well as they do.

    Monthly:

    LOTRO: 14.99 USD

    EVE: 14.99 USD

Flavor of the Month (usually City of Heroes or my second EVE account, I also try out new games) : 14.99 USD

I wouldn't pay more than 20 a month for an MMORPG. 50 dollars a month is ridiculous. I mean, that game would have to be damn good and I better be getting some equal to an expansion pack every month for free. For me the subscription fee isn't the fact that I can play the game, it's the fact that the game gets new content added to it reguarly and is kept up.

What else do you guys spend your money on? I'd gladly pay $100 a month if I could be guaranteed that there would be no botters/ebayers, a plentiful community (you know it would be mature by default) and everything a good MMO could offer. Of course at $100 you'd get like 20 people but oh well. $100 is probably excessive but 50-75 i'd do.

9.95 US... I still pay the 15$ but they arent worth that much IMO. Its even worse when F grade titles want to charge the same as the AAA titles.

Hehe I hear you ..... overall find the pricing of MMO's and MMORPG's to be very reasonable, even to be honost pretty cheap compared to other forms of entertainment. To bad I see more MMO's then I persoanly see MMORPG's these day's.

9.99$ would be a fair price

I have to agree there. WoW is pretty old and doing quite well from what I hear. How about lowing the price a little, LOTRO has offered $9.99 per month subscriptions so we know its not an out of this world suggestion.

WHat else do many spend money on? How about a REAL LIFE? Food, hydro, internet, car payments, house payments, insurances...sorry kid, but once you move outta moms house, you will see there are other places that could use $100/month.

As for how much I would pay...nothing. The current crop of MMOs are hardly better than the F2P models. Give me something like SWG-pre NGE, or UO-pre AoS, then I would probibly pay upto 25/month. But till then, at least to me, nothing is worth the standard $15/month charge.

I couldn't justify paying more than $15 a month for any game currently on the market.  If there was a really fantastic game, I'd go higher, maybe as high as $50 a month, but it would have to be everything I wanted in a game and nothing I don't and that seems entirely unlikely.

Played: UO, EQ, WoW, DDO, SWG, AO, CoH, EvE, TR, AoC, GW, GA, Aion, Allods, lots more
Relatively Recently (Re)Played: HL2 (all), Halo (PC, all), Batman:AA; AC, ME, BS, DA, FO3, DS, Doom (all), LFD1&2, KOTOR, Portal 1&2, Blink, Elder Scrolls (all), lots more
    Now Playing: None
    Hope: None

I'm sure the gamming companies have done some extensive research on this topic and know our limits better than we do.

It's a marketing term associated with the flixibility of an expense.  Go too high and noone will play.  Too low and you're loosing money along with a perceived quality (goes hand in hand with the price).

For current games? 10.99 MAX, I play'd WoW for a while. but got burned out.

Give me FFXI-2 with updated graphics/questing and a full server...i'd pay up to 40$ (but I know not everyone can afford this.)

being an old quy and retired, i really don't have the extra money to spend on monthly fees, and to buy the game with the prices they want today.

  • IhmoteppIhmotepp Member Posts: 14,495

I would pay more than 15 bucks a month for a good game, but would also be more likely to cancel if I started to enjoy the game less and play less.
