do you think that the other classes are going to get played much?
I know in SWG EVERYONE made a jedi the day that they were able to as a new charcter. I wonder if this is going to be a world filled with just Jedi or is there going to be enough people to have any variety.

Well, I think Jedis will be just melee classes. I am sure at the start most will want to try them out, but in the end some people who play Scifi games also prefer ranged characters.
"The person who experiences greatness must have a feeling for the myth he is in."
Maybe you should read up on your SW:ToR Lore... There IS going to be a lot of Jedi running arround. This is after all 3000 years BEFORE Luke and Darth Vader....
And PLEASE....This is NOT SWG!!!!
I'm sure you'll see other people playing the different classes than sith/jedi - Read the official game forum and you'll there are some people around who wants to play the other classes more than the sith/jedi. So I'm sure we'll see all the classes in action!
The first thing I make won't be a Jedi...I'm going bounty hunter!
Initially I'm expecting about half of the main characters to be Jedi or Sith Lord.
Bioware will have designed their game mechanics to work in such a jedi-heavy environment if they're smart. Deep customization through skill branches is one way of doing it.
Of course there are still going to be plenty of players rolling other classes at launch - actually, I'll be one of them. Also, this being a reroll-friendly game (from what the devs keep saying), I expect many to see that there are indeed a bit too many force-users and find themselves preferring to play their non-force-user alts more and more.
It's Star Wars, of course there'll be a lot of people who want to play Jedi/Sith.
As long as they aren't overpowered compared to the other classes, then who really cares? If there is a huge Jedi/Sith population and the other classes are fairly rare, that'll only make the players who are devoted to their non-glowbat classes stand out.
As someone who typically plays the underdog, I (currently) plan on rolling a trooper on day 1 as I'm thinking they will be the least representative of the released classes. If the vast majority of empire players I come across in PvP are Sith, it will be easier for me to learn to counter them, and if the troopers are pretty rare it will mean that most enemies I go up against aren't familiar with their mechanics, 'cos they'll be more used to fighting Jedi.
I also prefer a big honkin' rifle to a glowbat, but that's just my own preference.
Playing: EVE, Final Fantasy 13, Uncharted 2, Need for Speed: Shift
I'll definitely be making a Jedi. Oh, and a Sith. Oh yeah, and a Smuggler. And a Bounty Hunter. And whatever else I feel like making.
And, to echo a previous poster, this is the Old Republica era. There are SUPPOSED to be a buttload of Jedi running around.
...this is not going to be SWG 2, yes there will be a lot of Jedi...
That statement is not entirely true. I didn't become a jedi and neither did EVERONE else. Most of the people who went jedi at first were those that had always wanted to in the first place and they were usually the people who were TKMs or any of the other melee professions. By the end of the CU most were grinding jedi, not because they liked jedi, but because SOE was paying all of their attention to the jedi class at the expense of everything else. Who wants to play a broken profession that has no chance against PVP that is dominated by an alpha class?I don't see Bioware making that same mistake. Of coarse jedi will be the majority, but I don't think it will be as bad as SWG was by the end of the CU.
Currently Playing: World of Warcraft
Like others have stated, it is appropritate to have a large number of jedi and sith in this time frame. To answer your question, I think you will be suprised with the number of people who choose other characters. I am pretty pleased so far with the variety of choices and am leaning towards the Mandos or smugglers myself. I think there will be enough in the other characters to keep it pretty balanced.
With the raw power seen from jedis before the NGE it was only natural to want to make one to see if it was still awesome. It wasnt. And yes other classes will get played just as much if not more.
Did you see the cinematic Bioware showed off at E3?
Yes, Jedi and Sith will be big.
I'm actually looking forward to the Bounty hunter and If they put in a Commando or Mandalorian class ill play that first.
Playing: EvE, Ryzom
ill be playing a jedi for sure. i could care less what anyone else plays in this game. its not about them, its about me.
Why so defensive? I don't think the OP is bashing the game.
I know I wanna play as a BH myself.
After the extreme bait and switch pulled by SOE over the jedi class it is no wonder that so many switched to Jedi as soon as they could in SWG but since then I haven't noticed Jedi outnumbering other classes much in that game which leads me to think the novelty of playing one in that game has worn off. In regards to TOR there are lot's of Jedi/Sith so the lore would not have to be altered to fit but also I just think it's not really a valid concern as I have yet to think of any game where only one class was worth playing, will they outnumber other classes? probably but there will be more than enough people who won't play them simply because they see too many around as is not to mention some people are going to stick to the class they like to play in other games as well such as "tank","healer" and so on.
for those unfamiliar remember when SWG launched you could not have multiple characters on the same server though they said once you "unlock" your Jedi you would be able to and as others have stated Jedi was the "new content" and everything else was neglected for quite some time after they decided to allow them in game. If you use this post as any indication there will be more people not playing Jedi/Sith than those that do as everyone seems to think that because they avoid the obviously "cool" class they are being rebellious/underdogs in addition to the fact that BH is probably as iconic if not more so than Jedi I doubt there is anything to worry about as far as class balance.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
...u guys wont see J of Jedi or S of Sith...
try reading some of developing blogs...

I'm not rolling a Jedi on release, screw that. I've already swung a sword for 4 years in MMOs.
I'll be playing as a smuggler, because nothing beats having a good blaster by your side

Think of it like WoW.
Jedi/Sith = Hunters
Jeditards, Sithtards will eventually be their new nicknames since so many people will play them and so many of those people won't have a brain.
People will roll other classes and things will be more balanced after a couple of months/years.
Well, of course, that's only one scenario, but that's what I think will happen. All I know is I'm rolling a Jedi, whether I'm one of 10 or one of 10,000. C'mon, it's the most iconic class of Star Wars lore.
I'll probably play a Jedi and a Bounty Hunter from the start, and the one I have the most fun with will be the one that I level and play the most. I expect just about everyone will at least try out the Jedi, but after a while the classes should balance out.
it all depends on what classes are available and the mechanics of each class.
I generally go with the class with the most entertaining mechanics. I analyze and pick apart each class until I find the one that fits me. Whichever one that is I won't know until the game is released. I have a feeling it's going to be some kind of support class, though, at least that's what I'm hoping for. Some kind of buffer/medic or some such thing.
edit: I think Smuggler may be the first class I play. But again, it depends on what other classes are released.
edit2: hmmm, or maybe the Trooper, they look pretty badass.
"Good people are good because they've come to wisdom through failure. We get very little wisdom from success, you know." William Saroyan
I think 3 classes will dominate. Jedi, Sith and Bounty Hunter. People want to be Bobba Fett! I'll be starting as a Jedi but I'm sure I'll play other classes once my Jedi is maxed out. I think classes like trooper might be few and far between, but it's all just speculation right now! We will have to wait and see when the game comes out.
I know I'm playing a Bounty Hunter and most of my guild couldn't care less about Sith.
I think that there will be more Jedi's and Sith around. Because really, who doesn't want to at least try out a Jedi. But I don't think there will be the shortage of other classes that people think. There will be Bounty Hunters and Smugglers around too.

I wouldn't worry. People always play ALTs.
Ummm... BH FTW. However, if BH can't hunt Jedi players, hardly see the point of playing
Hope this isn't going to be another disneyland by LA... or what the last one turned into with the help of LA and break BH to unplayable.
No, won't be all Jedi, just stacks of dead Jedi, lots of them. Don't matter dark or not, just dead.
And no, I don’t wanna play Bobba Fett. He is only one BH in the galaxy among the many.
