Then don't design your zone with the only early level content right next to the major camp spot and certainly don't make the zone so incredibly full of choke points that the "home team" gets screwed.
I am not sure but don't you guys have another level 20-25 zone. Elyos have Theobomos if we wanted to avoid rifts.

And i don't know of any decent elites there to grind for decent group xp. The zone seems incomplete on Beta servers.
That zone is indeed incomplete, it gets expanded on one of these major patches, but with high level content. Didn't the barricades with NPCs saying "you don't want to go in there right now, we don't want you to get slaughtered yet" give you an idea?
And yeah, that region is not accessible by the enemy race (no rifts), making it completely and 100% risk-free of PvP.

I guess i'm a "care bear" because i dislike PvP in an MMO for the most part. Why cant you just opt out of it? Just in a setting you can change if you want to be open for PvP or not. Make it where you cant just change on a whim though so you can gank and change to PvE. Like in WoW if you attack you are open for PvP only make it for like 3 hours.
Well you can't opt out in Aion, because thats not the game design, its a PvP oriented game. There are plenty of MMOs where you can opt out (that being, there are ways to avoid it).
Not every MMO has to be designed the same way.

I do not think you have to be the same way as all MMO's just because you can seperate the PvE and PvP areas. Look at Guild Wars. A game that can be great for PvE or PvP. It balances it out great and other games can do the same thing. Like i said, there can be options for it if someone doesn't want to PvP. Even can make a realm that is solely PvE centric (but not eliminate PvP obviously just not in the open world). I like to test my wits against strong mobs that require teamwork and a lot of skill. Not who can press the button the fastest. Which PvP boils down to. Who can run around jumping and press the buttons faster.

Until the practice of ganking is actually punished in a PVP setting, it will occur.
Even then, it will still occur, though perhaps less often.

Vanilla WoW had it. "Dishonour" was what it was called. If you raided an enemy town/city and killed civilian npcs, you could lose your pvp rank quickly.
It wasn't the picture perfect way of getting rid of lowbie ganking, BUT it did help keep higher level toons away if you managed to get back to a town quick enough (or rez/run lol).
TBC saw that disappear though.
Do you have the willpower to delete YOUR wow toons? XD

Um the Dishonour system had some seriously bad consequences. It was not picture perfect by any means.
There is a syatyem in place to limit the low level ganking that happens it's called "the slayer system", how well it works remains to be seen but from the notes about it, it looks like PKing will be a bit more fair in levels.

Dishonor points did nothing to discourage high levels from killing low levels outside of town, and little to discourage it in towns, which is why it was removed. The slayer system in Aion will do far more to discourage the practice than dishonor on WoW PvP realms ever did.
You gank too much you can't revive via kisks or use rifts so if there is a ganker, call your friends, shout it out, let them die, and move on.
Abyss? Group up... seriously I don't know what's happened to MMO's where it's a bad thing to encourage grouping, but it's sad. Group up to stand a better chance if you come across an enemy. If you want to solo grind to end game to participate in some shallow grind then there are plenty of games out there already to accomodate.

My point is, why can't different MMOs cater to different play styles? Why can't we have some MMOs that focus on PvP, and others on PvE. Theres more than enough out nowadays, and more than enough that flounder trying to do too many things at once.
I like to test my wits against strong players, and in RvR and PvP, that requires teamwork and skill. Not how long it takes you learn a mobs AI. Which PvE boils down to. Learning a set routine a MoB is going to attack you with ; )

You have no idea what you are talking about. There was a full 3 group alliance multiple times on the asmodian side on Nezekem. There was were 4 groups of Elyos who were on average +4-10 level higher. One of the legions on that server camped the only way out of the city, which is right next to the major questing/grind area for level 20s, for the entire weekend. They litterly two-three shotted any one who tried to level for 75 hours straight, I personally saw three differen players from this region simply sit in the same spot for 10 hours straight and just sit there and kill people. As soone has they took any damage they siomplyu ran away and came back becuase there is absolutely no way to spike down and actually kill a level 30 especailly if they have potions and CC. You can't CC them they resist it 90% of the time. The sad thing is they were complete dumbasses too. They barely even know they show up on radar or even bother to change up tactics. Utterly predicatable clowns. They might as well have been botting it was so mindless. All they needed was two level 30s during the non-peak times. And during peak the zone was flooded as I said above.
Only the extremely stupid high levels even died, and they just got rezzed anyway. I mean you can't really be stupid enough to think that a full group of 6 level 30's will not be able to rez their friend in 30 minutes against about 10 level 20s. They did not even need a Kisk. My level 21 chanter could not even get a level 30 SM health bar down by 5%. No one could. The level 30 assasin just blew his Stigma and a potion when he was in trouble. It took 30 seconds to a minute of sustatined fire to get him in dangouers territory anyway.
Look the only time we did in fact have a 15 to 5 advantage we did kill them because they got spread out and we found their Kisk which they had used a terrain exploit to hide inside a giant mushroom cap and then destroyed it. That gave us one hour in the early afternoon. I am pretty sure those guys were like level 25 because they died faster. The higher levels are pointless to even attack.
I hope you realize that what I am describing means that these losers never even bothered to go to the Abyss for real PvP. They made a beeline for the most extreme griefing they could do and due to the population balance, level difference, and zone design it was a griefers dream. They then stayed there CONTINUOUSLY for 3 days and never botherd to go to the Abyss. They are some of the biggest losers I have ever seen and they were able to almost completely shutdown an entire zone that was supposedly meant to be tested.
The Upper zone was un-testable for the level 19-23 content. The only way to level during the entire weekend was to mindlessly grind in Brus.
You clearly have no idea what the chokepoint situation is in Morhiem. Say whatever BS about grouping you want. The entire Asmo population of the zone was fighting because they had nowhere to go, but the entire population of the zone was level 20 because they can't get any xp except by doing a soul crushing mob grind in Brus. All a level 30 has to do is retreat and go back. You can't even heal through their damage level20s die before the heal spell goes off. You do 25% damage all they need to do is run down the chasm and bandage. If you chase you get slaughtered and you have no CC that will work. It is retardedly stupid. There was only one option, bring in the Asmodian level 30s. Guess what? There weren't any.
Upper Morhiem gives no options for defenders. Similarly if Elyos are the ones who are outnumbered, Upper Morheim is almost impossible to do infiltration quests in. Even in a group there are so many Asmodians goign through that cnayon you would literally need an entire alliance to stand a chance. And the entry Rift placement for Elyos is a death trap for Asmo but not vice versa. Has nothing to do with people being unable to group up. Seriously people this is really simple math.
You gank too much you can't revive via kisks or use rifts so if there is a ganker, call your friends, shout it out, let them die, and move on. Abyss? There was no leveling at all on several servers. You are not killing a level 30 group member that has a healer. Ganking was extremely bad this last weekend. I stopped at level 21 just to take a break. Trying to level was extremely painful.
That being said, I know that penalties for this are coming. The slayer debuff should help. I like Aion and I hope the slayer buff prevents this. I would like to test RvR which is what I was looking forward to, not being ganked by a party of level 30s.
Remember there will be a slayer system introduced, basically preventing high level people ganking lowbies .. Penalties of PvP in PVE Areas If you go on a killing rampage in enemy territory (does not apply to the Abyss), you will receive penalties for doing so. This is called the Slayer System. The effects are as follows: 1. Depending on the amount of killings you will receive points. If your penalty points go over a certain limit, you will receive the penalty effects. If you kill lower leveled players than you, you will receive more points. 2. The penalty effects are categorized into two. One is a ?Curse? and you cannot use rifts. The second is a ?Judgment? and under this effect you cannot be resurrected in any Kiosk placed in the enemy territory, as well as use rifts. 3. The name of the Curse/Judgment depends on the race. If you are Elyos, you will receive Curse/Judgment of Asphel. Asmodians will get Curse/Judgment of Ariel. 4. Once you come under Curse or Judgment, your location will be revealed throughout the local map for the entire opposing faction members. Also, even if you are under a hiding skill, your title will be seen, making it even easier to be spotted. 5. You must go back to your own lands or the Abyss and wait for a certain amount of time for the Curse or Judgment to disappear. 6. If you or someone else kills a slayer, 12 nearby players of the dead body will receive buffs. 7. The killer of the slayer will be announced throughout the area chat under the format of ?[Race]?s Hero [Killer of the Slayer] has defeated [Slayer] while he was under [Judgment or Curse] of [Ariel or Asphel].
That.

Don't think its been mentioned but rifts also have a level limit so lvl50's can't zone into a lvl20 zone. I also believe you get xp from killing players in patch 1.5 so there is only so long people will be able to enjoy being able to camp the other side. Its much the same as WAR's tier system and how scenarios were level limited except its now the whole zone instead of just rvr lakes that are affected.

Its not the same as WAR, WAR was MUCH better in this regard. WAR addeda buff so that you had at worst 3 levels difference. The lowest Rift in Morhiem allows level 32s in and the higher level Rift which pop in southern part morheim allow up to level 40.
A level 32 will utterly DESTROY a level 20 character. A level 40 would probably two shot them easy. The level 40 simply has about 5 minutes more travel time from the rift.

Yeah. In fact, there is one rift in each of the two 20-40 zones that allow level 45s in.
That's part of the problem here. There are two main PvE zones from level 20+ on each continent. They cover levels 20-40 and 30-50, respectively. The individual rifts are located in somewhat level appropriate areas of the zone for the max level they allow through, but the zones aren't particularly large and it's fairly easy for a high level group to travel to the part of the zone with lower level opponents.
Also, there is a huge difference in power between levels. Most MMORPGs with a PvP element decrease the advantage of higher level characters, with resists, hit rate, parry, evasion, etc... receiving a much lower benefit vs. lower level PCs than vs. lower level NPCs. That appears not to be the case with Aion. A level 20 may not be even able to hit or cast against a level 30 opponent. A ten level difference is so large in this game that even a group of level 20s may have no chance at all vs. a solo level 30 opponent.
This game is, indeed, a greifer's paradise.
Not only will the 67% of American players who prefer PvE servers likely not be willing to deal with this system, but I think a lot of people who play on PvP servers in other games will also find this grief-fest unenjoyable.
Eventually, all that will be left will be griefers. With no one else to greif but each other, most of them will probably be gone in six months.
Sad thing is that this game has so much to offer. A PvE server ruleset could be extremely successful, with miniscule additional coding and no real changes to any other part of the game or world.
I think it's funny that people believe, just because the cap will be 50, that this won't happen.
You WILL have groups of 30s/40s camping the 20s, all the time. If that spot is so bad, and people learn about it, it will constantly be covered by gankers. Thinking otherwise is niave.
But that's part of a pvp game. I don't see how the "epic" pvp debuff that Aion gives is much better than the one from Wow. Wow's stopped the people who wanted to pvp all the time, and get rewards, from murdering lowbies in cities which could not be defended.
Aion's does not let you rez (gasp, bring a rezzing class!), and lets you see them on the map. So what are 20 or so level 20s going to do against a group or two of 30s?
You will be griefed. You will be ganked. You will even get ganked when you least expect it. Sorry you wanted to play peacefully, but heh, the people I know, love to do this sort of thing, and I know it will be so common.

You are making yourself look foolish as well. Turbine as been releasing content free of charge for Dungeon and Dragon Online for 3 years and that include several gigs of data. Actually on my WE and Sorc i would destroy people when i was at the top of the tier and they were not. You would be spawn camping them in the scenario if one side had high levels and the other side didn't. With those purple renown weapons on my WE i was just owning people in the RvR lakes and not just one person but 2 or 3 easy if they weren't high enough.
My favourite ploy was to follow a group when they would go try and take a battlefield objective and wait till they pulled the hero then invis in and take out the healer, the go for squishies and then if i thought i could i would take the tank or run away, hide, med up and finish off the rest if they didn't run for it.
I don't doubt that there will be ganking in Aion but i don't think you will see one faction completely holding the enemy zone. Both sides will have the hardcore people who will race to get to max level. The majority of them will be fighting each other since killing lowbies gives jack all abyss points. If one side all went and rifted through and camped a lower zone then you will get the high levels on your side coming to try and kill them (people will be in the zone that has all the action whether thats a pve zone with rifts or the abyss).
Well if the ganking is super bad then the the outcome will be the same as for any other game where the developers made up stories lied about content and didnt bother to fix anything.
The result was that the players left...they Left StarWars Galaxies....they Left Auto Assault....the Left Tabula Rasa.
Those last two where NC soft games.....i didnt bother to play either of those when they went retail...becasue the develoeprs didnt give much help...lied about what content was coming....didnt even bother to fix much at all....instead they left broken abilites and broke more stuff.
So anywise.....i plan to stick with AION...and if during the open Beta it doesnt improve....I and probably most everyone else will leave it permanently....
The game will become another dead game of theirs....
I am not trying to be mean about this....its simply how it works out...we the players have lots of choices....we dont have to put up with garbage...there are thousands of other games available..most of those other choices dont have so many flight limitations either.

TBC saw that disappear though.

Um the Dishonour system had some seriously bad consequences. It was not picture perfect by any means.
Which is why I said "it's not picture perfect"

Well you can't opt out in Aion, because thats not the game design, its a PvP oriented game. There are plenty of MMOs where you can opt out (that being, there are ways to avoid it).
Not every MMO has to be designed the same way.
/shrug
Learning a set routine a MoB is going to attack you with ; )
Getting a bit off topic here, but i couldn't resist, apologies ; )
That.
For reasons like this we are just playing a beta, and not really a preview event. They have yet to update the client and show us the true features we'll see at release, and this is one of them, that some people say that "killed rift PvP" on Korea.
I hope Open Beta features the retail version, so that people won't get a misunderstanding on what the game offers, and they don't have any obligation to research future patches when they are just checking if they have fun with the game or not, first impression is everything and a lot of people are getting the wrong impression because they are playing a beta without a lot of things that will be added on release.
We have heard this bullshit a million times from a million developers over the pass 10 years.
There is no switch they can just pop to turn on the features on for release. We all should know this all too well... Darkfall saids countless times during beta that they do not have all the features turned on yet. Same with AoC and Vanguard and I can keep going and going.
Beta = current game client... if it is not the current game client then it cannot be a good beta... Beta is to tests the build and test the servers, if they are not using the latest build then they are just wasting their time and yours.
Sooner or Later

I guess you have no idea about the content that Aion will receiving FREE of charge before the retail release in the west. Please google Aion patch 1.5 & 1.2, it will actually blow your mind ... no other gaming company has release such a patch. It's wise to read up on things before you start making yoursel look very foolish ))
Client v1 ----> v1.5 will actually be another 3.5 gigs worth of content. v1.5 has just gone live in Korea, so its real - very real )))
An its a great beta i'm having heaps of fun on v1 .... too bad kid )

Might have to get a new keyboard for Aion ))
GW2 the future of MMO gaming
You are making yourself look foolish as well. Turbine as been releasing content free of charge for Dungeon and Dragon Online for 3 years and that include several gigs of data. Same with LOTRO actually. So thats nothing new and never seen before. NCSoft is just deciding to do that with a game and it's about time. Next thing will probably be lifetime account, thats becoming popular too...

Ganker?
As soon as it goes live i'll be posting my Gladiators name. (or templar, not quite sure yet).
Either way, I'll be seeing you cry babies on Aion for the month you'll be trying it. I hope I'm the reason you leave! =D
jk. But I am proud to say I'm a griefer, so watch out.
