Yeah how dare they let centuries of beliefs get in the way of the inspiration WOW can bring to their culture.

No just someone who doesnt think WOW is as important as an ancient culture but what do i know. I know this might be hard for some to believe but the chinese people have more problems than not being able to play a video game.
Cultures change. Theres nothing "sacred" in a culture. Look at how Japan "surf" into the western culture to be sucesfull as a country and mantain his identity.
Cultures like everything else evolve yes. But what this is all about is respect for ancestors and to forget this respect for the sake of a video game isnt likely to happen. Japan "evolved" to keep up in world economics, last time i looked China is not only doing well in that respect they are a major player in world economics at this time.

I don't think China is doing all that great. Theres too much concentration of power and wealth on a very few hands. That type of richness will not last. Remenber, economy is not about money.
Honestly, at this point, China is PO'd that the number one MMORPG wasn't made in China. In fact, most of the scariness factor to ban games was inspired because it was a big topic in WoW. So they thought up an excuse.
This game is not scary at all. They just need an excuse. Also, they are very traditional (mostly because they government censors the freedom of thought) and tend to like to stick to the old ways. The government stated that, people who live in China are too susceptible to be allowed to choose for themselves. Because they would go with the information presented to them and change. They said this is a limit on their freedom, but the government says its the best for their people.
Going back to the topic at hand, they are trying to choke WoW in the Chinese Market so that way it will allow for Chinese made MMOs to steal the spotlight in China.

Yes but Atheism is the most irrational of religions. Its the only one whose central tenet is logically impossible to prove. Even worse they are so irrational they think they are the most rational.

LOOOOOL!!.. who has tell you that? Atheism is not a religion.
Atheism if is something, is the acceptance of the world how it his. Religions where invented by people that reject the idea that the death is the final, creating magical worlds and mythic creatures that make a afterlife possible and "real".
Yes but Atheism is the most irrational of religions. Its the only one whose central tenet is logically impossible to prove. Even worse they are so irrational they think they are the most rational.
Atheism has multiple definitions:
From www.dictionary.com
–noun
1. the doctrine or belief that there is no God.
2. disbelief in the existence of a supreme being or beings.
---
I consider myself an atheist in the second sense. I do not believe there is a god - in exactly the same way I don't believe there are fairies at the bottom of my garden. I can disprove neither - but that doesn't really matter - because according to the principle of Occam's razor (i.e. that the simplest explanation is most often the correct one) it is more rational to act as if there are neither gods nor fairies.
And on the sixth day Blizzard did give WoW unto the Chinese and there was rejoicing. Our Lord Morhaime saw that the land was good and said he would deliver the Chinese from evil. But lo! There were heathens in the land of the Chinese who did not accept the word of our lord God. In his wrath God sent the angelic choir of Fanboys to smote them rightously. And verily they were smoted. Thus it was that the Chinese were deliverd unto the promised land of Azeroth and the trinity of Pardo, Kaplan and Chilton smiled upon the faces of their true believers.
I so love the outrage that gamers are feeling against the Chinese authorities, how dare they have an objection to WoW!

With that said that definition pretty much anhiliates the argument that Athiesm is not a religion.
Doctrince. Belief. Disbelief. Those are all heavily religious words. Atheism is a religion becuase it is faith/belief/doctrine based. You have faith that God does not exist. You have no scientific evidence becuase the question of God's existence is not a scientific question to begin with plus them crazy scientisitcs are probably working on more important stuff...like everything else.

Can't really criticize China for being the number 1 polluting country in the world considering they are also the worlds most populous country. You can only compare polution on a per capita basis ie. the amount of pollution the country puts out divided by the number of people living there.

Well - at that level you're really just arguing semantics.
If someone asked me "Do you believe there are fairies at the bottom of the garden" I would quite firmly say no. In exactly the same way, if someone asked me "Do you believe in god", I would say no.
To disbelieve means (again according to dictionary.com) "To have no belief in". Hence, since I have no belief in god, I would say I disbelieve. As someone who disbelieves in god, I consider myself an atheist.
I think part of the problem here is that people have become confused by the mathematical notion of proof. If we restrict ourselves to only believing in things that can mathematically be proved then we find ourselves very impoverished - it's hard to go much further than "I think therefore I am." For example, I believe that the sun will rise tomorrow morning . There is no way I can mathematically prove it, but I still set my alarm clock.
When discussing things like religion, it is far more useful to think in other terms - for example, consider the legal notion of "beyond reasonable doubt" that is used in trials, where it cannot be mathematically proven that someone is a murderer - but action is still needed to control crime. It seems to me that religion should be phrased in similar terms - we can mathematically prove very little, but we still must choose a path in order to decide how to live our lives. And in that sense, I choose to live my life as if there is no god. So I consider myself an atheist.
China is also a country that doesnt respect human rights and is becoming the number 1 polluter in the world. And a country like that deserves no respect. and about their culture, Mao pretty much destroyed all he could. So China can go right to hell.

I agree with Mike and I like to point out that even though China have #1 worlds population, Americans consume 40% of global energy production. And United States is basically #1 consumption of Chinese goods, now in order to make those goods, China have to have a lot of factories, thus having more pollution. So logically speaking, its all the Americans fault. Americans will go to hell quicker than China will.

Why don’t we ban international trade with China, that will stop all their nasty pollution? ( I will point out I am taking the piss, as some people take things rather literally on these forums)
Those factories could not be made to higher standards by the Chinese then? The fact that the Chinese do not bother to do so is the fault of other countries who trade with China? I do so love how hang wringer types have managed to try to avoid putting any blame on China, who are actually now the number one in world pollution. Of course. Under capitalism, the buyer votes with money. By not buying products manufactured in factories that have inadequate standards, they will be forced to upgrade to make adequate profit once again, or even avoid bankruptcy.
Much of the US population (and the West) still enjoys their lavish life-style thanks to those factory workers in China and other emerging industrial economies, so do not expect anyone voting with their money any time soon. Plus in May 2009, the US owned China $770b, almost 10% of your national debt...

Out of curiosity, how many people contributing to this thread have either:
a) Lived in China
b) Studied China
or
c) Had extensive dealings with China.
Personally, I wouldn't be so arrogant as to be judgemental about something I know very little about. All I can see at the moment is a bunch of maybes.
The opinionated and uninformed nature of comments in this thread amazens and saddens me.
