What is it with all the arses in BGs (and raids for that matter) criticizing players based on gear..or lack of the best gear to be more precise? I've played WOW for 4 years...and never have been called a noob until I started PvP a few months ago. Why?....When I had just PvE..i accepted it...but I have all purples from BGs now and still that is criticized. Of course it's "welfare gear"....although all the hours straight just to get one piece of last seasons, out of fashion arena gear...sure doesn't feel like a free handout to me. I also know it's not the best gear for PvP or Raids...but it's better than greens and blues. I just want to know what the arseholes did when they started out. Did they buy a boxed set of WOW for which I am unaware?..one that starts them at max level with all the best gear?...didn't they start off from the beginning like everyone else?...just curious...because if there is another way...I'll be glad to do it ..just so I don't have to place half the raid/Bg players on ignore....be kind of hard co-ordinating battle plans that way.

Thats because most people that play this game are douche bags
...I've posted this in the WOW forum because that is the game I play then most at the moment. I have certainly seen it in other games/MMos as well. So in essence..I guess most people in general are just douchebags..(?)
Can i just ask why you are even giving idiots like that even a seconds thought??
Does it matter what anyone else thinks about how you gear yourself out or even if you decided to go into a BG naked as the day you created the character, it is your sub and your choice what you do with your character, anyone elses opinion be damned!!
When i do BG's i love how there is always some guy who thinks he is the embodiment of Wellington or Napoleon with their sharp tactical prowess, PMSL!!! I always find the best thing to do is to just take little nips at them as they throw out their orders, it is so funny to see them get more and more wound up. Even better, just act completely thick, ask for directions to each location they give orders for, or ask how you get into a siege vehicle, they will blow their stack, it's hilarious.
Basically, if you come across an idiotic gear head, don't even give them a second thought, just thank what ever god you pray to that your life isn't that sad.
It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.
It's all status games (which I despise). Bringing other people down in order to elevate yourself (in relative terms).
Watch any nature video about a troop of monkeys or apes and you will see the same behaviour. We really haven't come THAT far from slinging feces at each other.

While playing my mage in a guild a while back, a single raid DPS spot was down to me and a Boomkin Druid. He made a point of bragging how high his ARMOUR was and wanted to compare with mine. Uh - WHY would you need armour unless you made a point of pulling aggro from the tank? It turned out that we both got into he raid and sure enough - every other pull, he pulled aggro. Amazing.

Exactly what I am talking about. It is frustrating that people who know their class get pushed to the side for people like you describe. That is why I like being in an adult guild, with mature players.
And Blizzard now designed content based around these people. Oh, wait. Did you honestly believe the whole "casual" argument? That WoW was populated by super skilled players with only 5 minutes a month to play?
Afew months back on a Friday around 7:30pm server time I asked a friend, who was a member of a very casual guild, to help me with a quest. He said he'd ask his guild. About 3 mins later he said no one was available because they were about to do 10 man Ulduar. I was shocked. Raiding on a Friday Night?!?!?? What happened to partying with the Rolling Stones and snorting cocaine of naked super models backs that all the casuals claimed they did. Casuals said they couldnt raid because they had such awesome social lives?
So I did a few /who ulduar and naxx and saw they were jammed packed. Then I noticed trade chat full of LFM Naxx/Uld pst achievement.
Except for when I was a super hardcore raider back in 2006 I never raided on Friday or Saturday nights. But back then casuals abused us for being hardcore nerds with no social lives. That we all lived in mom's basement and never saw sunlight. By BC and doing Hyjal/BT my guild was only Sunday-Thursday. Friday and Saturday were strictly non-raids.
Could it be a MYTH that WotLK was dumbed down to accomodate the "casuals" with their super awesome social lives? Or was it more likely changed to suit the type of people that has been discussed in this thread?
Douche bags give people crap in game because if they were to try that in real life they would get their asses kicked, so WoW is the only place where they can go vent off from having their lunch money stolen at work without taking a trip to the hospital.
I assume the Ass-hat is a BoA item.
Actually,
purple (epic) pvp pieces are shit for pve, better to use blue pve pieces
use math when you decide on gear
For example if you have no +hit on your pve gear, I allready consider you a noob, cause it is obvious you don't understand the game mechanics.
I then prolly won't party with you cause why take someone who doesn't understand the game when there are dozens who do?
PvP players are for the most part a different breed than pve players. The overall mentality changes and there are going to be a greater degree of jackholes in those areas. It doesn't matter what the game is.
I think WoW's repair costs really hurt a casual approach to high-level instancing. More than once, I have run out of repair money in the middle of a less-than-successful dungeon run. And then you can't go again. Which drives people's tensions regarding mistakes and sloppy play. I think the run back alone would be enough of a penaly for a wipe. Plus a bonus for a clean run would reward top notch performance.
I always enjoyed running groups with unusual composition. Always wanted to get a group of only mages together to see how much we could handle, but those repair costs tend to drive the adventurous spirit out of most players.

This scenario will only get worse. I really detest the way the game has turned out for this expansion, the rot started to set in when they launched abominable armory. When I play any online rpg, I really don't want people to know what gear I have, what my recent conquests have been, its irrelevant to anyone except me. Elitism pisses me off!
I really cant wait for dragon age to launch, at least with smaller community online play there is more co-op play and camerarderie, even when new players join your server.
How many new games have come out where their fans have predicted that this one will be the one where gear doesn't matter that much, and min/maxers won't be so elitist with whom the choose to group. I know I heard a ton of "This isn't WoW" from the Warhammer fanboys before launch.
I think you will be disappointed. It is Human nature to be elitist and exclusionary. Only the few of us who recognize it as a harmful attitude will fight against it.

Actually the people we are talking about in this thread...ones that make sure you use certain mods and know exactly what your dps is and criticize your gear, etc..... usually are more hardcore than casual.
I have no problem going into a raid and wiping 15 times if its because people know their class and know what they are doing. My guild is entirely casual and entirely made up of adults and we have none of these issues. The only time I have run into these issues is when I try and do PUG's and the organizer believes this is the best way to sort through the good and the bad player, which is far from the truth.
Actually no. Hardcore raiders dont EVER pug. I know when I was a hardcore player I'd rather be tied up naked, smeared in feathers and paraded down the main street then been seen pugging.
But since a mid 2008 I've been a casual player and until my time on my account expired a month or two after 3.1 came out I only pug'ed and I came across of plenty of people discussed in this thread. But none of there were hardcore raiders in BC, let alone classic WoW. I would usually inspect their achievements and you can easily tell:
No Hand of A'dal title the first time they logged into WoW after 3.0. If you didnt have Hand of A'dal title pre 3.0 you werent hardcore (hell if you didnt down kael/vashj pre 2.4 you werent hardcore). Hell, most of them didnt even have Champion of the Naaru title which was pretty easy to get.
Check their scale of the sands rep. Check their ashtongue rep. 95% of these idiots werent even exalted with violet eye.
No. By dumbing WoW down so even the biggest idiot can clear content has empowered these idiots. The type of person who read the EJ forums (do you even know what the EJ forums are?) for 5 mins and can parrot basic theorycrafting without actually understanding it.
"hay guiz, i can raid naxx so I is xpurt on everything WoW! Do 3500dps in heroik or I kik yu, okkk?"
I can guarantee you these idiots never stepped foot in Black Temple pre lvl 80.

What are you babbling about? Are you saying because someone didn't play the game pre3.0 in hardcore mode they are an idiot?
What do you have against the rest of humanity?
Just let it go and have fun. It's your experience not someone else. They don't pay your sub fee.
How can you avoid the dickwads when blizzard gives people amunition to play with?
The armory is an invasion of privacy!!! Seeing every faction and achievement, the spec and gear.
It's a joke any one can troll someone for anything.
If you looked at my Warriors Armory you would see the thunderfury achievement I would get harrassed in that game for hours for raiding content people didnt get to experience. The TF and special achievements should be a good thing but asshats use it as ammunition.
Checking armory and achievements before inviting players to dungeon runs? bitching out a new pvpers because his gear isnt good yet, its too much man. Blizzard are a bunch of fools for releasing that feature imo you shouldnt even be able to see someones gear.
PPL in this game are really terrible.
WoW is MMO highschool you don;t give children that kind of power.
Playing: EvE, Ryzom
There is a difference between 'not the best gear' and stupid gear, especially now that you can get a full set of epics in one night, if you put in an effort. There are many good resources out there to educate yourself how to get geared up. Since WoW end-game is all about gear, many of the PvE and PvP geared people don't realize there are casual players out there as well, who do not care about having best in slot items. However, you should not expect to be asked to group with these elitists.
I will not invite a rogue that has spirit gems socketed, or a healer druid with feral gear. However, I usually pug heroics and even 10-man raids sometimes. An idiot with the best gear is useless, a good player with sub-standard gear is an asset.
How should someones ability be evaluated if not by gear? If I resubbed I'd be called a noob too, even though I played 4 hours a day for a year. Would you be upset if some little kid stopped you in the street and called you a stinky poo pants or would you laugh? For all you know thats how old the other player is.

Sigh. Reading comprehension has gone down as much as WoW has.
Templarga claimed that the idiots that demand things like people to be geared in tier 8.5 to do heroics were the hardcore players of Burning Crusade and Classic WoW.
I pointed out that in my time WotLK the people I came across people demanding stupid things like 3.5k dps on trash in a heroic were not hardcore players and I knew by checking their achievements/armory and saw they didnt have things like Hand of A'dal which they would have if they were hardcore raiders.
No. These douche bags that demand tier 8.5 gear for heroics were the people who couldnt get a guild to carry them through Karazhan and now are hellbent on forcing their idiotic views on everyone. And the reason they think they're god's gift to WoW and that they know everything is because the content in WoW is so easy.
If you're not going to read the thread and get the context just dont bother posting.
The armory has its place and is a great tool if used properly. But as you say, it quite often is not.
Why you would need to armory someone for a heroic is beyond me. The tank should be able to give his/her stats when asked without needing to check armory. But people do it based on misplaced belief.
I can understand people wanting better geared/experienced players for the higher end content. You wouldnt want someone who just hit 80 to be a 25 man ulduar. But heroics were designed for most class roles to be done as soon as you hit 80. Tanks are the exception but warriors/paladins and even death knights can buy lvl 80 BoE epic gear and be ready for heroics. Dont know about druids, suppose thats why you see so few feral tanks these days.
