Either way this game is about PVP so gather your fellow players and go at them Elyos THERE is a limit to how many can go in a rift and a level cap on each rift so you can outnumber them easily people care to help.

Also open beta will be 1-2 weeks after CBT6  with character wipes so we all get a fresh start.  I plan on getting to 30+  to try fire temple then.

I am level 30 and elyos. in cbt 4, I was in a group of level 25s (cap at that time) and took on 3 groups of various levels in asmodian. I would assume that a group of level 30s can take out a full alliance of 25 and below. And I know there is a limit on the rift but most of the time the rifts will spawn in the desert of the southern part of the map which has a limit of 30 + people. I can see 20+ level 30's camping out in front of the city and stay there all day long without any trouble. What I am trying to say is that since the last beta, people that were camped will still be camped and they can't do anything about it because of the level differences.

Were you playing on Siel? Population balance isn't nice there and there will be population inbalance caps in effect on release (and maybe at OB).

Already mentioned this on page 1, but will do it again. I really hope NCSoft puts 1.5 on the Open Beta so we can know how effective the Slayer system is. CB6 will be another PvP war, won't say gankfest simply because at least on Israphel there were always a force to fight back succesfully, might not be the case in other servers though.

    On Israphel, IGN: Quitter

It would be nice to see how the slayer system will work out.  I would really agree it will be a pvp "war" pre-say because elyos were camping the rifts pretty hard this past beta. It would be fun to see where Thirteen is whenever they go rifting.

I didn´t play the game yet, so I may misunderstand something:

If the healing classes can resurrect, if a group of higher level players has 1-2 of them, if they are visiting an enemy lower level area... what is the point of the slayer system?

I am a PVE player. What I got out of this thread is that as a PVE player I should stay away from this game as it's a gankfest and PVPcentric. I did very minimal research on Aion and happened to get a beta serial code through preorder. So I was not informed on this and now that I am, I am thankful that I read this thread. Since this thread helped keep a carebear away from your PVP game, I'd think you'd be happy that it existed.

Or you can actually try it and see first hand what the real deal is.

Or you can live your life just taking other people's word for how things are.

When I first tried Lineage 2 I expected, based upon reviews, to only be there a week IF that. I just wanted to see what an online game was like and eq looked horrible to my tastes. I knew all the bad things about it but just wanted to see.

I stayed over 4 years. Why? Because I knew what was true, what wasn't, what I could stand, what I couldn't.

I did my OWN research and was rewarded with a great game, even though there were things i didn't like about it.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained and you won't die if you play aion during an open or closed beta event. At least not from any game related issues.

Well, this discussion is a bit pointless. Lets say, for the same of argument, that you could level up to 40 in WoW and the last unlocked zone was Stranglethorn Vale. What do you think would happen if that was all there was to that game? Was that all there was in that game? Is there all there is to be seen in the last beta event in Aion?

I am a PVE player and if I get ganked I will cry and whine in the threads, is this not correct? Is that not what you wished to end? You can't have it both ways.

I am currently still researching the game, but this thread gave me the heads up I needed to do so. I've played many mmos since EQ and as you start to get burned out from mmos and the market is saturated you start to filter games out through hearsay/word-of-mouth. I don't believe everything I read, but you have to start somewhere.

Penalties of PvP in PVE Areas
If you go on a killing rampage in enemy territory (does not apply to the Abyss), you will receive penalties for doing so. This is called the Slayer System. The effects are as follows:
    1. Depending on the amount of killings you will receive points. If your penalty points go over a certain limit, you will receive the penalty effects. If you kill lower leveled players than you, you will receive more points.
    2. The penalty effects are categorized into two. One is a ?Curse? and you cannot use rifts. The second is a ?Judgment? and under this effect you cannot be resurrected in any Kiosk placed in the enemy territory, as well as use rifts.
    3. The name of the Curse/Judgment depends on the race. If you are Elyos, you will receive Curse/Judgment of Asphel. Asmodians will get Curse/Judgment of Ariel.
    4. Once you come under Curse or Judgment, your location will be revealed throughout the local map for the entire opposing faction members. Also, even if you are under a hiding skill, your title will be seen, making it even easier to be spotted.
    5. You must go back to your own lands or the Abyss and wait for a certain amount of time for the Curse or Judgment to disappear.
    6. If you or someone else kills a slayer, 12 nearby players of the dead body will receive buffs.
    7. The killer of the slayer will be announced throughout the area chat under the format of ?[Race]?s Hero [Killer of the Slayer] has defeated [Slayer] while he was under [Judgment or Curse] of [Ariel or Asphel].

LoL, penalties for PvP in PvP game? Give me a break. Didn't they try that in AoC?

They need to encourage PvP in these games. And low-level ganking, should be encouraged as a viable means to create conflict amonst players, in my opinion. If done well, low level ganking could be the entire premise of the game. You try to attack the other sides low levels, while they protect them and try to kill yours. Just rediculous all these silly little justice systems game developers come up with like its cops and robbers or cowboys and indians.

I don't recall any game where low level ganging was a base for a meaningful conflict. Quite the opposite, games that left their low level people unprotected stagnated their player base. Who in his right mind will bother playing the hero, boring himself with patrolling the low level areas, when there is a war waging in the Abyss?

And what does PvP and low level ganging doing in the same sentence anyway?

Well, you're half right - the other side would go gank the other low levels.

But as far as higher level players protecting lower level players, nope, won't happen to any meaningful extent.

Remember how in UO the devs thought that players would police their own? It hardly ever happened, the PK's rule the land and the pve-type players just voted with their feet and left. That was the end of UO's dominance in the MMO world.

Let me ask you a question. Feel free to be as honest as you like.

    • How much time did you allocate playing guard duty over complete strangers (not talking about clan mates)?
    • How much time did you allocate hunting low level players?
    • What was the game that you did all these things?

Ok, so I like this. You can PvP in PvE areas, but there's a penalty. That's the end of discussion for me. I'm not going to lie, I plan on ganking. I plan on ganking a lot. :) I really don't like the idea that a game should seperate the pathways of PvP and PvE, because I like to do both! so, PvPvE sounds good to me. I don't want to hear your opinion. If you don't like the idea, then you don't have to play.  If I get ganked, then I won't cry about it. If that post I quoted is true, which I'm sure is, then you won't get ganked constantly like you do on PvP servers in AoC, so it won't be too bad. The game is in beta here. keep in mind they've released a full version in Korea, and they fricken love it over there. :) I'm sure you all will too. Just shut up and give the game some room. ;)

I hope Open Beta features the retail version, so that people won't get a misunderstanding on what the game offers, and they don't have any obligation to research future patches when they are just checking if they have fun with the game or not, first impression is everything and a lot of people are getting the wrong impression because they are playing a beta with a lot of things that will be added on release.

Until you SEE them in-game and working properly, assume neither. If the 1.5 version is not in beta, assume some features mentioned are either broken or missing.

That is the voice of experience talking.

Exactly.  And considering there are currently more elyos in Morheim than asmodians and almost all of them are +5 to +10.  Add on the fact that Morheim is so badly designed that you can't do anything due to choke points and its pretty bad.

Suffice it to say that currently on at least one Beta server Asmodians simply can't level unless they get a full group of people who are mostly 23+ and go to the remote Ice Claw.  Since all the morheim level 19-23 content is unusable your only option is to mindlessly grind in the other zone which is currently incomplete and has about 2 quests.

I have heard countless MMO say they will do something like a anti-griefers system.  Never seen it happen or work,

you do realize there is anotehr zone the same lvl with no pvp right? there is always a counter zone to each of the pvp ones

All i can say is seriously ppl grow some balls lol.

I wonder if you will complain this much when you are over invading the other factions homeland??? and yes you will because you get infiltration quest to do so.

So you get ganked rez, link the location and call for help (if you don't know how to do that open map ctrl and right click on map where enemy was and post it in chat, this will link for all to click on and put a pointer on there map as to where they are), now tell me is it more fun to sit there and kill a sheep/kangaroo or chase down the punk that owned your face cause you are a noob???

I have been playing since Aion Kor, then went to Aion CN (currently still there) and now beta and have been ganked many a time but have also ganked a few on my travels along the way, I find it lame for high level players who like to just harrass noobies but meh it don't last too long before they either get killed, get bored or have to get up go and brush there teeth cause it has passed 7:30 and it is there nap time.

Seriously guys if you read anythng about the game you should have know it was gonna happen, but yet here you are complaining, can you not be happy for once and just enjoy yourself, which can be quite easily done in Aion.

Tis funny really i would never had expected to hear Asmo's whining from being ganked lol considering they are the more masculine race.

Watch come release when every man and his dog rolls Asmo and then let's see how many of you complain...not too many i don't think, cause you will be the one doing the ganking.

Tis funny really i would never had expected to hear Asmo's whining from being ganked lol considering they are the more masculine race.
Watch come release when every man and his dog rolls Asmo and then let's see how many of you complain...not too many i don't think, cause you will be the one doing the ganking.

I agree. Except, the whole bit about your faction playing a roll in your behavior. We all know it's not the faction, it's the guild.* Who gives a crap what faction you roll? If you're in the <Jerk Hardcore rabbit> guild though, we know y'all have a rep for being douche bag noob gankers and ninjas. (I don't know if that's a real guild or not. I'm sorry if it is. I wasn't trying to point you out.)

    Argh

Maybe you'll get your wings clipped and not be able to fly for a certain time period?

Yes but if you are still alive as a slayer but then log out, do you come back as a slayer still stuck in the opposing faction's homeland or what? It could be a timed system, so if you log out and then straight back in you will be in exactly the same situation as before, whereas if you log out for a week you will be reset back to your obelisk respawn point. What you guys think?

Well i assume it will work just like any other buff, you log out and when you log back in your buff still stands, so yeah i would say you come back exactly how you left.
