Educated and hardcore FF/ Squeenex fans know IV will be the bomb because of the track history of the company and years of personal experiences from various titles... It's quite funny to see people try to flame this... OP was on the right track as well.
funny thing is I made a similar post to this one in the Aion forum. It was dismissed pretty quickly. lol bias much?
if the pvp aspect of Aion is nice, I may end up playing it as my main. =P
How was it bias? You mean the fact that "You" posted it. Or the fact that it was in the "Aion section"?
Personally I think alot of the people that will play purely for the PVP aspect don't lean towards PVE very much at all, so alot of the aion crowd might turn a blind eye to a topic like that. But alot of people i've know from FFXI say they like PVP quite a bit as well but FFXI never quite fufilled that craving.
So I can see where more FFXI players would be open to say, "Sure why not" When talking about two mmo's that are almost complete opposites. I am actually afraid the SE would do something amazing and make PVP amazing as well. Because if they did that, then for me there could only be one. And i'm afraid at that point I would drop aion altogether. Which at that point I would hope I hadn't already invested a butload of time into the game <_<
I preordered Aion just to try out the beta, after that and realising it will be forced PvP pretty much the whole game past level 25 I have decided not to play it when it is out, the forced PvP is what changed my mind along with FFXIV planned to release in 2010, so I told myself 'why commit to something now?' and no, one year is not enough time, if I am going to pick up a new MMO now it will need to last me several years.
That being said, Aion looks great but it has already been out for a bit overseas, I think Aion's graphics and gameplay will look dated compared to FFXIVs... it is being developed on the white engine which is what FFXIII was made with, and the footage of the mithra casting a barrier is suppose to be in-game according to the E3 interview with the Devs(can find the interview on youtube).
But yeah FFXIV will have pretty much everything I like in it. Virtually zero PvP so the community will be lacking the first person shooter/ganker jackasses which you find in the rotten community of WoW A great community... FFXI also had a great community Soloing capabilites while I wait for a group!! YAY thank you SquareEnix ^^;! And the numerous amounts of character roles you can play (I loved how many classes were in FFXI)
Well your just making assumptions that FFXIV will have "Virtually zero PVP" becuase your thinking of how FFXI is. When it's already been stated that FFXIV is gonna be a whole new game aside from the races to give you a good transition from FFXI to FFXIV.
FF11 does have some PvP it's just not forced on anyone, arena based. I seriously doubt we'll see any forced PvP in FF14 either, it's just not what SE 'does'. Of course I could be wrong. :P
FF14 has changed my plans in the way that I'm only playing Aion until Ff14 is released. Aion is no longer that perfect (for me) MMO I was waiting for. Still think Aion is great but personally I much prefer what SE dishes out any day, compared to any other gaming company really. ^_^
Pfft... You're such a fangirl, Cynthe
:-p
I kid.
I'm in that same category... although my take on Aion is more "meh" overall now.

Aion is a pretty good game. I am just using it as something fun, fresh, and new and I love the PvP aspect. FFXIV will cause me to drop any game i'm playing and only play it no matter what is out or what i'm playing. I don't even expect Aion to hold me until FFXIV, but if it did I could see myself bouncing back to Aion down the road.
One is a PvP oriented game and I like it for that. The other is FFXIV and it wins.

I can only hope FFXIV tries to downplay PvP as much as possible. If WoW has demonstrated one thing, it's nearly impossible to make a game that is both balanced around PVE and PVP, and I could see it be the source of a lot of people's frustration. I've been a hardcore competitive gamer for years now, gladiator multiple seasons in WoW, money tournaments for CS, etc, but just because I really enjoy PvP, doesn't mean that I want options to PvP in a game like FFXIV. I just don't think it's practical to put in such a PVE oriented game. I mean the whole point of FFXI was to find a really nice group of lads and help each other.
I'll probably just stick with Starcraft II for a competitive game for a few years, and play FFXIV as my adventure game.
Currently playing : WoW, Dofus. Played: LotRO, FFXI, SWG, Guild Wars, Dofus, WoW.
@ OP, bias as in: I made a similar post to this in the Aion forum and the results were more favored towards tha Aion crowd. thats what I meant by bias, not your post, but the results from that thread. it seems like Aion will be just like Warhammer for me. A carryover until IV is released.

This is win, and also my plans, with the addition of possibly SW:TOR at the same time (if it releases next year).
Tough times indeed. not really because of Aion, which i waited for since NC announced it but the announcement of FFXIV wich will come out around the same time as GW2.
Planned to play Aion till or together with GW2 really, but now with FF im not sure anymore

They've already stated there will not be a focus on PvP. In speculation (and that's all it is) it would likely appear in a form like in XI, as "side activities".

Wait you made a post on the AION Forums and they where biased twords AION , wow that is really surprising, i am shocked sir , shocked.
Any way, FFXI was my first mmo, so even though i have not played it in years some of my best memories are from that game. I am cautiously optimistic about FFXIV, I never really played any other FF games so i have little knowledge of the back story , so i will be very interested in how easy it will be for me to follow. While i will be playing AION , the real question for me will be will i play KOTOR or FFXIV. I am getting very burnt on gear grinds , and i am very much looking forward to a game where i actully want to read all the quests, and i feel like i am part of a story. I t is odd but i would rather 100 very interesting hard quest lines then 10k kill ten rat quest lines, If i am gonna grind for a lvl or a skill i would rather do it in a contested dungeon.

how can you compare a game thats coming out next month to a game thats not coming out for at least 2 years?
SE has the release of FFXIV as 2010. 2010 is next year, and we're already over halfway through '09.
Just sayin'...
And MMO Developers never miss their promise dates.
No wait....
I don't bother with speculation when an actual date is provided - particularly when it encompasses an entire year. If they miss it, they miss it... as of right now it's 2010 and that's not "at least 2 years away".
But I get what you're saying :-p

PvE Onry! FFXI PvP is fine but no stupid BS rewards for it PvP should be fun and not a place to get stuff. I want a fun game that's not spoon feeding players.

Well, I hate to pull up track records. But SE does have a fantastic one. If any 2 MMORPG's are most likely to hit a release date dead on. It would be SE's FFXIV, and Bioware SWTOR

I secon d this. SE failing to deliver on time would be real surprise. Especially when the target window is whole year atm.
