What ever way you put it you cant tell me flying in this game is in anyway what they lead people to think it will be like, Are you telling me your not going to see this forum and the offical forums flooded with complaints about how flight works because there isnt one person ive spoken to ingame and out of the game who thought flight in aion would be flying inside a invisable dome !

Once again, there is no misleading. You just don't like how they implemented it. I can understand that. There are several ways they could have done this better (I'm assuming you mean flying upwards and hitting an invisible wall?). However there is no reason to believe that one would be able to fly to the other side.

Personally, unless there is some hard and fast reason why this can't be done, all they had to do was have players lose momentum, sort of like a helicopter flying to high and not being able to "bite" into the atmosphere.

But in no game that I know have they ever marketed the actual hard coded mechanics of the game. To that end, in no place Lord of the Rings do they indicate that you can't go anywhere and everywhere you want or that you can't dive under the water. There are just limitations to how devs are making game worlds today. Some decisions are more organic than others.

So you don't like the implementation? fine. I can't fault you for that. But I don't see anything misleading. I can fly. In some places I can glide for very long periods of time by just jumping off of a hill. The abyss allows you to fly practically everywhere within the limites of your wings and pots and buffs.

so, "so what" if one can't fly as high up as one would like? That has nothing to do with the game. You can fly pretty high but if you think that one was going to be flying as high as an airplane then I think that's undrealistic.

Essentialy you jumped to conclusions. All anyone woudl have to do was to ask the question on the forums and the truth would be revealed. They pretty much removed the nda very early on. Misleading would be if they showed players flying at impossible heights but once in game you had the system we have in Aion now.

NC showing flying says nothing about the "how" it is implemented. Again, you dont' like how it is implemented, fine, no reason you should. Heck, I don't like the the invisible walls either. It's cheap. But saying that some sort of lie is being perpetrated is a bit beyond the pale.

Graphics in-game are very dissapointing compared with how the game appears in screenshots, gameplay seems worse than WoW- just with really flashy animations, and the entire first 10 levels was spent grinding little bug-like creatures in small and walled-off areas.
I could see this game as a free-to-play and I might try it if it was, but I could not see forking over more than the 5 dollars I already wasted on it.
So... I really don't get the appeal.  I understand there hasn't been a major MMORPG release recently, but are people really that desperate that they want to play "this"?

In respect to the title subject of this post, Darkfall would be the worst over-hyped game ever.

But yeah, I'll take your word for it hehe.

It's cool. I'm still new to the class as well (just played it last closed beta) but I feel like I've read enough and done enough reading up on the class to understand. The one thing that most high level assassins will tell you is that flight is a bad thing to get into when against a ranged class.
We want people to stay on the ground as much as possible. :)

Whats the difference between fighting ranged in air or on ground?

Your stealth and "shadowstep" skills work in flight too

Ambush does not work in flight. Plus getting kited sucks enough normally, nevermind with an added dimension.

Would AoC or WAR have sold a fraction of the boxes as they did if they had been as open as Aion has been in it's public information and mass play oppotunities before they launched?

If your answer is no then you have kinda answered the question which games were the more falsely represented by their devs.

Over-hyped, and weak graphics?  You've gotta be kidding.

One man, a small pile of money, and the screwball idea of a DIY Indie MMORPG? Yep, that's him. ~sigh~

  • Well Aion has really nice graphics and game atmosphere incredible but i really dont like to combat system.

Some class/classes grips other player/mob and sometimes throw them in to air and hits him/her in the air etc.Im like "wth im doing".Okay some of you will reply to my message like "It's Fantasy game and those combos normal in a fantasy game"  but  i didnt get any problem about combat system in other mmorpgs before (Played wow, aoc, war etc..)

Combat system so showy and i dont want to feel like "playing mmorpg in atari saloon".Its just not my style and maybe Aion not my game, to be honest i dont know.

Still will buy the game in September, just dont know to continue after 1 month..

I don't know why people are so afraid of slight changes from systems they already know. The combat animations are nothing short of.....animations. They look really cool. Besides that its the same, read this skill to find out what its doing and the animations are the nice presentation of that for us on the screen.

In no way have I seen the Aion animations doing anything detrimental to the skill descriptions, so therefore, I can't see them being a real issue.

The chances are you're just burned out on MMO's. Go play Champions Online since that looks like a good instant gratification fest. I'll being playing Aion and Section 8 myself, good old RPG funness and awesome fps action.

Yeah, Darkfall sucks. You're right about that, but Aion is a very hyped game, but people don't understand that Aion has a huge grind, the graphics are artistically, but Aion is mainly an endgame PvP game with a bit of a storyline.

    Good point.

Of course not. It's the players who are hyping the game up this time, and not the other way around. There's an abundance of information on the internet about every single part of the game, a lot of high level players are posting their thoughts on the end-game, the game mechanics etc. It's there for everyone to see.

On the other hand, not lifting the NDA until its launch, all AoC had going for it was Tortage, everything beyond that was !@#$. Same with WAR, fun in T1 and T2, but failed really badly in everything else.

Can you imagine AoC or WAR selling anywhere near 1million boxes had they let the public try out Battlekeep sieges and raids (AoC) or capital city sieges (WAR) ??

Precisely, and this is what so many people fail to see.

I admit i was taken by the hype in AoC and WAR, but i had never tried the game before i actually bought the boxes, and some time after i quit in both cases and i said to myself that i was never gonna do the same mistake again.

This time i am very excited about this game, but not because i read about it on the internet, this time i am in the closed beta, and ive played on the chinese servers, this time I HAVE PLAYED THE GAME, i actually know whats it like, so i am also hyping this game on the forums, because i know what it is.

I've played in a couple of the weekend events.  This game is so very over-hyped.  I'm sure it will do okay with a few hundred thousand westerners at most.  This game won't even scratch WoW and it will draw away a precious few, if any, WoW players.  I quit WoW a year ago, but I'd rather go back to it than play Aion.

With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal

The difference with Aion is all the hype is coming from players not the game company.  Mythic drove the hype for Warhammer, Funcom for AoC.   Aion at least in North America the hype is driven by players who have played the game in Asia and those who played beta.  So no it is not over hyped.

That being said this is a game like all games in not going to appeal to everyone no game is,  if it is not for you understandable but you look really foolish making the post you did after only getting to level 10 in what amounts to the newb island in EQ2.

    Exactly.

A lot of people in this thread are confusing player buzz with artificial hype and false claims.

It might not be for everyone, but a lot of players are talking about Aion because they simply love it, and that to me seems fair enough.

Play Aion now :) not later on when everyone is high level

if u love pvp aion will be great if not i doubt it will have holding power but a solid group of core gamers will exist in NA just like in l2

If Anything Aion is under hyped becasue out of all of the games i have ever played this one have a best player story lines ever. I mean Wow is just like your in the game pick up quest do it but yet no quest realy mean anything in wow ok maybe one or two but I mean game should have more hard core Story lines to it you just do join a game to grind and if you do quit gaming now you are not enjoying the games. Story lines are what drive a game making the player feel more apart of the world they are playing in and I would have to say that Aion does that for you but WoW not so much. I give Aion a 9.75 because no game can be perfect but it can be great.

  • natuxatunatuxatu Member UncommonPosts: 1,364

Yep most of the hype I've seen is from the players themselves and that's fair. I know my hype and excitement for the game is genuine.

no one actualy reads quests... big waste of time fuk that

  • dethgardethgar Member Posts: 293

It's not a bad game, its just a game that is the same old same old with some gimmicks thrown in. It is however, over hyped by fanboi's and websites.

I'm not sure how it will do with most WoW players. I can only post what has gone on with my guild and a friends guild. Our guild was in the top 500 before we decided to take a summer break and move to Aion at launch. Most of the guilds moving over but we did have some that decided to stay. I'd say about 90% are making the move. We posted on the WoW forums what we planned to do and will be picking up a lot from our server. Some never heard of the game but fter talking to us will try it out. We did have some uninformed WoW fanboys jump in our thread and try to discredit the game with....

"Typical asisn grinder".....No more grinder then vanilla wow was.

"Flavor of the month new MMo".....Guess these were the people burned by AoC/War

    " Another AoC/WaR".....I don't think so

"WoW Clone"....This one was funny cause before WoW came out all the EQ, DAoC, AC players were calling it a clone of those games.

"Its a NCsoft game"........Can't really say much to this. NCSoft is trying to westernize Aion

So, we'll have about a full 90 person legion once we get guild rank 3. My friends WoW guild and another good sized guild he knows is making the move too. So it will make a dent but I don't think there's a MMO that can ever kill WoW. Only blizzard can do that with they're new MMO or if they keep making WoW the World Of Causalcraft.

I have a 8800gt, 4 gig of ram and a 2.7 dual core.  I ran everything on high and it did run smoothly, which is a good thing for a new game.  The problem is that as soon as you're looking at something not right in front of the camera, graphics quality drops incredibly.  It's strange.  I suppose it might be a good way to keep up fps in big PVP battles, but I have yet to see a big PVP battle in this game.

All of the screenshots of people standing right in front of the camera look great, but that's not what you're looking at when you're playing the game.  Plus, everything has a washed-out quality to it.

As for "over-hyped", what I meant was hype in the playerbase.  I've been playing LOTRO and even dabbling in WoW and Warhammer and even Conan lately, and everyone's been talking about Aion being the next big thing.  To me it just seems like a typical free-to-play Asian game with slightly better graphics, only it costs money to play.

As for the "Just wait for another 20 levels and it really opens up", that's what I heard about Warhammer, and that did not turn out to be true, so I'm highly skeptical.

I have a little advice for the graphics tho.
    A. Buy a new Graphic card Newegg.com
    B. Visit Canirunit.com before buying a game to see if you can first run it and see how well you can run it. If you have actually even played aion which i highly dought since everything you said in your post was complete BS none of it makes sence to someone who has actually played through the lvl's you mentioned.
Buy yeah tell your mom you need to Upgrade from your 2002 Gateway Fail PC and you need to be a big boy and build your own system.
True gamers Build there own PC's.

This is the other thing about this game that worries me.  Some people are getting really defensive about criticism, just like they did with Warhammer.  After a month of Warhammer, I saw it was nothing but a scenario-grind on a bad engine with way too many servers.  I was flamed to hell for commenting about that until about 4 months later when everyone had left the game, when the fanbois finally came around to realizing it was true.

As for "box", I didn't mean a literal box, I meant a small enclosed area.  In WoW or LOTRO if you've got a quest to kill 10 whatever (all I saw was bugs or bug-looking things in this game so far), you've got a large area to do it in, and can often find them when you're moving through a large (at least by comparison) expanse working on other quests.  In this game, you've got 10 bugs to kill and there's 20 and they're all in this small walled in area.  Next quest is to kill 15 bugs, and they're all in another small closed in area.  And so on (until the game magically opens up at level 30 I guess...)
