What will you do if they expand the Aion cash shop?

RedwoodSapRedwoodSap Member Posts: 1,235

Currently it's this:

On March 11th, Aion: the Tower of Eternity, an MMORPG developed by Korea-based NCSoft, made it available for players to change their character 's appearance and sex through buying "appearance change tickets" and "sex change tickets". The appearance change ticket is priced at 9,900 Won(USD 6.75), allowing players to change their character 's face and body shape, while the sex change ticket is priced at 12,000 Won(USD 8.18), allowing players to change both appearance and sex.

Though in the past NCSoft sold limited edition items in Lineage, it is still the first time for it to sell such common items in game. Does it indicate that the Korean version Aion: the Tower of Eternity is combining monthly subscription model with item selling model.

However, NCSoft claimed that they introduce "appearance change tickets" and "sex change tickets" only to offer players with more satisfactory services, but not to increase revenue.

But if they pull a Smedley and add experience potions, etc., will you quit or bend over and take it?

I like the idea of selling things to allow players to re-customize their characters.  It's nothing that affects the world, just how much one player will enjoy their own character.

If they start pulling BS like selling gear or EXP potions or something then I will quit.  I don't think that they will though, not in the least.

Objectivity is delivered with a lack of personality made for the mainstream but never used for the mainstream.

    This tbh

Ayase already stated that a game with an item based Cash shop and subscription fees is ridiculous and that's not how Aion will be run (jab at CO? haha)

Will they run the typical server xfer / name change / character sex / facial change? Probably eventually if not right away, but those are features that benefit the player without giving them any kind of edge over anyone else, fine with me.

Due to the extensive modifications you can make to your toon, including previewing your armor models to check your shape and look, changing your appearance should only be left to rerolling. The only reason to want to change your appearance is

A)You think you could look better since someone else took more time looking pretty with their char creation

    or

B)Not knowing what you will look like in end game gear(which is moot)

    or

C)You found out you'd rather be a woman to whore yourself out for free shit.

Catering to whims is what starts the downward spiral of mmo's, ESPECIALLY if you deem yourself an "rpg'er" (of which can play any race/class combination).

    =P

Has anyone heard whats avialable in korea to purchase online? I think if they start selling items with real money here, they may see alot of complaining and possibly alot of account cancelations unfortionately.

Cosmetic changes dont bother me a bit, I dont doubt for a second it is to increase their revenue. "Hmm we have to give our players more options and features!" or "Hmm how can we earn more money?" out of those two sentences its pretty easy to say wich is more likely the train of thought.

Any gameplay changing items in a item mall and I would probably not play anymore, I want to play a game where everyone is equal without having to fork over more money. So like I said at first, cosmetic options are completely okey with me but gameplay affecting ones is a gamebreaker for me anyway.

How about if you get bored with how you look?  For some people that affects their will to play at all.

They are selling customization and sex change only, they also gave some not important items to the people who purchased the game before the release, even tho they dont sell game's box there.

What if they sold unique looking wings that increase your flight speed, but are no faster than the other ones available in the game? That would make their MT's have a similar effect as WoW's TCG did by offering epic mounts.

I don't have any problem with the paid character/sex change thing.

"Damn, I'm tired of my spiky hair... fuck this game!"

That type of thing? Really? I don't want to call you out or try to insult you but are you one of those types that claim to play a female char because you like staring at her ass all day?

I mean ranted, give me the option to change something and I'll probably use it (my undead lock in wow had a missing jaw for a long time then I was able to change my appearance which I did) but it isn't a make or break thing.

Besides, think of it as a roleplay aspect... you don't carry your favorite characters life to your new character. You start over.

I understand the argument of mmo and world and evolving you looks etc but I don't think combat based games really should focus on those things.

Looking at a larger level and after talking with a friend, NCsoft doesnt stop the Gold sellers such as in WOW. From what I have heard this time NCsoft is cracking down and hopefully fighting the Gold Sellers and not encouraging them like my friend said they do. Appearance changes arent a problem....they are nice revenue for NCsoft but helps people if they want a change.

I always considered the server xfer, appearance change, sex change thing as kind of standard. Name change is another service taht I just always assumed would always be available, at least in new games, seriously you play 500 hours on a toon, there might be something that starts to bug you,  and chances are no one will notice, or care.

  • kariannekarianne Member Posts: 30

I really hope there is some way to change appearance, whether it is real money or kinah. I would like to have the opportunity to change my look if I start hanging out with someone that has the same hair.

I wouldn't mind a cash shop for appearance items and server transfers. I just wouldn't want anything that impact game play.

  • SoupismSoupism Member UncommonPosts: 272

The only reason I am against it (otherwise I don't really care) is because it gives people the "go ahead" to pursue negative repuations with the ability to "wipe their slate clean".

Apart from that I understand the good and the bad, and if there is a service in place, I'm not saying I wouldn't use it. As contradictory as that sounds.

Appearance and sex change ticktes, zomfg itz a C Store cash shop. I think it's better to charge real money for those than in-game currency, otherwise there will be people changing appearance and gender like pants.

    That's not even "vanity" stuff.

But yeah, if they introduce a real cash shop I'm out and no bs of selling cool stuff directly for money, make "PLEXes" if there's such a need for money, but I doubt NC is some random studio that is running out of money and need wool from the sheep asap in order to meet a quota.

I would consider it a standard service to be able to change your toon in these ways in a P2P game.   I played WoW for a while and after a year I decided I hated the name so I paid to change it.  Didn't give me any advantage over anyone in game that didn't pay for one and I liked my toon a lot more after that.  So I don't see what the big deal is.  I just don't want any items for sale at all in a Cash Shop.  Pay to Pwn is way too expensive for me to afford lol. I've already done that in a  "F2P" game and I'm not doing that again.

Well, first off, they already have sex change in lineage 2. WoW has similar stuff as well. I don't see what the big deal is.

I doubt they will offer items or anything like that as I think they are going the lineage 2 route with their rmt. I can see them offering server transfers as well. This is all pretty common.

No probs with face/sex change, because the options are so varied, its nice to look at different avatars once in a while.

However, if they add things like +def/attack/magic/exp, etc potions, I'll hate it and still play but as soon as FFXIV comes, I'll drop Aion.

IF they don't, I'll play both Aion and FFXIV, huhuhuhu.

I'd piss and moan AND buy the stuff. They certainly will do stuff like this to raise revenue. How long could it be before they copy the explosively cash cow of Wo_ (censored) trading cards, of which decks have random loot cards that sell for hundreds of not thousands of dollars. There are plenty of people who will pay a few bucks for a customization, or even alot of money for anything that gives a stat not available elsewhere.

This is bs, why should it cost anything if you want to have your toon look another way? Either give players the option for free or let it be. Thats exactly how it started in eq2, buy some stupid pets that follow you around and stuf flike that - and later the aa / exp pots.

Reason enough for me, not to buy this game tbh.

OMG!!!!! If they  ruin Aion by putting performance enhancing items into the cash shop I'm going to EMO-Rage Quit and then cyberstalk night and day any Aion forum I can find trolling how unfair and underhanded NCSoft is and how craptacular their game totally is.

    Or not.

Maybe I'll just keep playing EVE.

I disagree. It shouldn't be allowed for pay or free.

I hated it when Smedley and SOE started offering it in classic EQ. Originally you could not transfer servers, you had to reroll and you couldn't change your gender or your appearance other than what you wore.

Players who behave poorly, earn bad reputations, steal form their guildmates etc. should not be allowed to hide their identity to keep on deceiving people or transfer an established character to a new server for a fresh start.
