A lot of characters just look silly in this game. It's called customization. You can be a fat little dwarf or a tall skinny elf. You can also make your character look very, very silly. At least you have a choice.
Another extremely popular MMORPG ranges from giant cows to tiny dwarves and it seems to be doing ok.
I know I'm feeding the trolls, forgive me. I'm at work and bored.
Personnaly im going for the smallest size, so ppl have a hard time target me in pvp. But its no so different from example WOW, where you can be a gnome (smallest) or a tauren (biggest)
Actually your target hit bounding box is the same size regardless of your player size, so this won't matter. However, being smaller may be beneficial to avoid getting ganked often since it would be harder for other players to see your character from a distance. If it did really matter, you'd want the tanks to be huge and the casters to be small.
The fact is, even being only 2 different "races" the team wants you to be able to create the look of any race you wish.
Ive seen High Elves, Half Elves, Gnomes, Halflings, Half-Orcs you name it, you can make a midget with a large head, a gigant with pointy ears and dark or light skin.... whatever.
Dont take this all 2 races thing to serious, you can be whatever you like in Aion
It was already said, but bounding boxes are the same so if players tab or click to target there is no difference. The only thing that is affected is the visuals in a small to midsize skirmish it may be frantic and you might just not see the small person. However, many people hate the tiny characters and have vowed to target them first.
To me I think it's stupid to make your character look like an idiot just to get the upper hand in like 1 out of 15 fights. In huge battles not all characters are rendered similar to FFXI so during those it won't even matter.
The reason is that, while Aion only has 2 races, they are really more of a civilization. If you took a fantasy world like Lord of the Rings and you ripped the planet in half, and half the planet lived in the darkness, and half in the light then that would be similar to what you have here. Hobbits, dwarves, elves, etc. exist on both sides. Due to this setup the character creation is made to be as flexible as possible to allow people to pick a side, and then create whatever they want as far as dwarves, giants, hobbits, elves, etc. So you could say Aion has tons of races. There just aren't racial benefits.

Whoopie Eff'in doo. They vowed. Such conviction.
It's not stupid at all nor does making your character small constitute idiocy. I've never played a gnome, a dwarf, or anything resembling little people. I am this time for aesthetic and 'different' reasons.
What is stupid is stereotyping everybody who makes small characters are for targeting reasons. I'm sure it will be very difficult while I'm standing still firing off spells.
during the beta, i've found it harder to click on smaller targets. the boxes are probably the same size but it just seems harder =... well it worked on me, so it's bound to work on some other people. my character will probably be small.. but not a midget >_>
Mouse click targeting is the devil with smaller toons. It's just a natural reaction to click what you see. Sure little people have the same hitbox as sasquatch but you will still try to target their chest just the same. Or by habit try to target giants 15 feet above their head and out of their hitbox.
I prefer tab targeting personally (or the and / key for some) but when you are sniping it isn't always easy like that.

quick lesson for you then, use the tab key to select your target.

Read my above yours. Tabbing isn't always an option and I covered that.

I believe one of the major selling points of Aion is it's vast customization as it allows you to grow more attached to your characters.
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.

Just saying that you can make your character look like an asian, normal, middle aged or young is enough for me that it has a decent customization :P
Dunno if everyone saw the video obama plays aion you can see that the character looks 95% like him, obviously refering to the face detail.
I think they look otherwordly and like them.

I play midgets. Not for any particular reason.
Objectivity is delivered with a lack of personality made for the mainstream but never used for the mainstream.
QFT. I've always done this in MMO's. Mainly because they look stupid and piss me off. lol
I like the tiny itty bitty toons. It's fun to abuse somebody in a itty bitty toon.
Same reason so many rogues in wow were gnomes.
gonna make a itty bitty teeney wheenie Templar.
Nice.

I love small characters, and will be rolling one that has an epic beard.
Maybe we should all make a tiny char, cos then it would not matter at all.

Well, I suppose people have to work out their demons some way.

Smaller characters always feel like they're running faster, so I've just always gravitated towards them.
its all about rocking the HUGE head

Will midgets have wing sizes proportional to their body? cos you could end up with an albatross situation going on haha
Im a tall guy.. i like beeing able to play a tall character.. maybe its the point of view..
I once played a dwarf in ddo and got sick with the camera moving close to the floor.
