All games use features taken from other games. Guild systems, chat systems, con systems, auctions, banks, classes etc. This is a basic truth in MMO's. WoW was by no means original in its creation as it took many things from EQ, Anarch online, and who knows what else. WoW did have some unique features though and they also spent about 10 times more money than anyone else at that time was spending on the development of games and thus had a much broader more advanced product that anyone else had at the time. Every game is unique in some way or it will fail completely. As Samaxe said in the previous thread, Alganon like every other game has core features that are similiar to many other games out there but it also has many features unique to itself that should perhaps make it a game worthy of playing, only time will tell on that one. On that subject can anyone name the first MMO with a mail system? How about the first MMO with a customizable UI?(I remember when that came out was a great advancement to the industry) How about the first MMO to have a raid? How about the first MMO to make a UI specifically for raids? For guilds? What was the first MMO to use bags in your inventory? Many systems people take for granted today did not always exist out there in the MMO gamescape. Original UO was an extremely basic game with I think about 10 skills that ranged from 1 to 99 and a few stats that moved based on your skills. You could max a character in a couple of days and from their on out it was just a matter of getting equipment which did not have very much variety. Then EQ came along and added stuff. Then anarchy Online came and added more stuff. Other games popped up in between and all around and added their stuff. Now current games take advantage of all the testing that went in to many systems to see which ones work and which ones look good on paper but suck in reality.
He said "LOOKS" like WoW, not "has the same mechanics as " WoW.
As in appearance, art, design, etc.
Sure, every game has a mechanic or two or all from previous games.
But if I were making a game, I would want a visual style of my own where instead of "this looks just like <insert game>", I'd hear "woah, this looks cool and unlike anything else".
And I'm not personally say this game does look like WoW. I'm not interested enough in it to make the comparison. The point is if you get a lot of people saying your game looks like another game, you've done something wrong somewhere.
Ok so the game has cartoonish graphics to me it looks more like WAR than WoW. The Avatars look soo much better than WoW, the animations are better than WoW the game plays much smoother than WoW. These are just all my opinions of course.
Edit. Well games all take parts of other games and improve on them. So why can't a game steal its graphics and improve on it as well?
Its considered "bad form" to copy another games graphics, especially if you chose WOW as the one to copy from. (since too many others have done so already)
Let's just hope what is different enough about Alganon outweighs any similarities it has to other games.

Yea it looks like WoW.. Would be nice for them to redo the UI before release so it doesnt look EXACTLY the same. While I love WoW and Blizzards art style I just wish companies would stop copying it.. Yea its familiar but you are just showing the difference between your art team and Blizzards.
The game does have potential though.. Dual Class and more specialization through the Study system.. Study system looks to be pretty deep.
What i also find very cool is the the GM will play as your god that you follow. The pvp system is based on belief and fighting other gods, beeing GM´s, and i like that you can train offline as well like EVE. That way people that only play something also have a chance of advancing in the game. Personally i am certainly going to try and play the beta.
It does look like WoW, which I don't mind as I like WoW's art style apart from the character models which I can't stand (apart from the Dorf). From the videos the character models look a bit different so a cautious thumbs up.
but seriously....look deeper.....these WoW posts are getting old....this game "looks" nothing like WoW
wow....just wow....
Well, I have to be honest, the first time i saw the screenshots I really did think that they were emulating wow's style.
I couldn't say this was a wow clone as I have no idea about what the game play is supposed to be like but I would say beyond a doubt that they were in the same ball park with the art design.

Are u kidding me, just take a look at the classes.
Soldier(Warrior) has anger(Rage) builds up as u do and take dmg. Stances: Tactical(Balanced), Weaponry(Berserker), Defensive. Specialization(Talents): Weaponry(Fury), Tactics(Arms), Protection
Ranger(Hunter) has Toxins(Stings). Specialization: Survival, Instinct(Marksmanship), Guardianship(BM)
Magus(Mage) has Affinities(?) and Elementals(Ice Ele), Spec: Flame(Fire) Storm(Arcane) Ice(Frost).
Now all of that isnt specific to WoW but it follows closely.
I could care less if it looks like UO, I've been following this game for a while now and a lot of the features it has kinda resonated with features I wanted to see in a MMO, families, crafting and the way players get quest specifically for their characters. I signed up for the beta so hopefully I can check things out.

Hate to say it but if you looked up WoW clone in the encyclopedia. There would be a link to the Alganon website. This is the biggest copy paste job I've seen to date.
Classes in fantasy MMOs are generally the same. So it's no big if those seem alike.
Graphics..eh..."style" is a choice that can strongly affect peoples opinion of a game. If it ends up looking too much like WoW you begin to pick up all the baggage that WoW carries with it, and likely not picking up the subs at the same time.
Another issue with the comparison, which may or not be valid, is that people will weigh the "new features" said game has versus the time invested in their old game and the "new features" it will be coming out with.
This is by far the biggest rippoff game i've ever seen... in almost any genre. What a uninspired, unoriginal joke.
If this gets published or officially released I wouldn't be surprised to see Blizzard sue the shit out of them. It really can't be legal how much they are ripping off WoW...

Good lord... calm down maybe?
Yes, it looks like WoW. Established. You either like that or you don't. Time to move on.
The real question is do the game systems and design philosophy offer anything worth looking at, and the answer is yeah, yeah they do.
Is anyone else excited about how much it looks like WoW (graphically?). If it brings back even HALF of that feeling of pure awesome Vanilla WoW generated in me the first time I played it I'd be a happy camper.
This is the most shameless wow copy you could ever imagine.Graphics and animations are so similar, its basicly what wow could have been if it had been developed by amateurs. Before i get marked as a wow fanboy i have to add that i played it since release but quit shortly after tbc and will never go back.
All that the devs do is copy, the offline line study system was taken from eve and the rest from wow.Just looking at the interface it becomes so strikingly obvious that even the most blue-eyed fanboy coudnt deny it.As of yet they havent developed any ideas of their own.
I usually refrain from making such negative posts but what the devs did in this case is more than cheeky.Feel free to flame as much as you like but at least play the beta for a few days to get to know what you are talking about.

Flame you? Why? You may be correct. But it's absoloutly certian that I don't care if you are. If the game is stable and fun, I will play it.
I didn't care when Blizzard adapted and took things from other games for WoW and I don't care when others do it.
Over 10 million people are playing/have played WoW and are comfortable with WoW's interface.
One way to reduce the "barrier to entry" for a new MMORPG would be have an interface that is easy to get the hang of. If they can make it easy for folks to get past the "how" of the game and into the "what", why not? There can only be so many variations on an MMORPG UI.
Heck, standardizing them across games wouldn't be a half-bad idea.
Honestly, it's not going to be about where the chat box or the backpack is that makes any game successful. It's going to be the content.
If they don't have an original idea that's going to engage people, they will fail. If it is a "WoW clone", then the developers are the dummies and deserve to flop. Few will quit WoW just to play a different WoW from the beginning.

Not only does it look like WoW....the classes and even their mechanics read pretty much alike atm. Just check the warrior soldier page.
And if i am not mistaken the game will start out with 4 bland generic classes, which is pretty pathetic.
Butttt...it has potential, let's see what they make of it.
Scratch the first part I wrote. Thought I was on an Aion thread.lol

Ok, so it looks like WoW...that has been established.
Now, as long as the promised features work fine, and it PLAYS as well as WoW does on lower end systems, thats all that really matters.
Yea it looks like WoW.. Would be nice for them to redo the UI before release so it doesnt look EXACTLY the same. While I love WoW and Blizzards art style I just wish companies would stop copying it.. Yea its familiar but you are just showing the difference between your art team and Blizzards.

Who knows anymore.
Asheroth is mention in very very much fantasy books so for that matter WOW wasnt very originell either.
I even think Baal and Asheroth are also names in Diablo.
So i somehow think they didnt steal the name from WoW.

The MMO gaming industry hasn't had an original thought since 2004. Why would it suprise you that another WoW-clone is released?

You can be serious. Look at this. If I didn't know where I had gotten this screenshot from, I would have guessed it was WoW:

Yes, because we all know Blizzard didn't copy Workshops Warhammer when they create the Warcraft franchise with an RTS game. *rolls eyes*

Maybe, but I remember a time when people flooded to new servers when Blizzard opened them, and played the game from the start all over again.
