2056 dmg,86% wound chance... Every rare item in the game used to make it... Flamethrower of Doom in SWG pre-CU... I could 1 shot black bar entire groups of people putting them into negative health..

Nothing is quite as fun as watching a full guild spend hours trying to drag there leader to the medical center in order to allow him to play again. I do feel sorry for those folks who couldn't get healed due to no friends and ended up deleting there chars.

Or perhaps items won't be such a big deal, and players can start judging other players on their skill and personality instead.

Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.

Out of curiosity, apart from learning to spell, what would you consider to be a "Tumaltuious challange"(sic) or "hard work"?

I'm just trying to get some sort of reference of comparison, just so I know how much harder it is to do stuff in other games, compared to getting things like the "Insane" title, or an "Ironbound protodrake" in Warcraft.

I think for me would be in swg the first time I looted and used a holocron.  Pretty exciting, man I miss what that game was.

I've never really gotten anything good, but I had a friend in FFXI who got a Relic sheild called "Aegis" and when i was playing (4 years in) there had only been 2 gotten through out all of hte servers. it took him around 1.5 years of work.. it was very impressive.

    Sorry to derail thread.

It wasn't a totally rare item; but anyone remember camping that 8 hour brigand spawn in EQ to get the offhand +9 wisdom  book in EQ? I missed the spawn 2 times....meaning it took me a full 24 hours to camp him. Love/Hate relationship with those days.

Can't imagine doing 24 hours. It was my first camp at around level 7 or 8 with my Druid. It took me about six hours. Can't believe that 1) didn't have some high level steal the camp for one of their twinks or low level friends/guildmates and was able to solo the guy without aggroing any of the nearby mobs.

Learned from that first camp that the idea that you can just sit there casually reading a book waiting for a mob to spawn just doesn't work. Spent the entire six hours trying to read the same single page while constantly looking to make sure no one else was trying to take the camp.

My suit of Amuli armor in AC1. It was of really crap quality and took the 10 tinks with ease to over 450 AL base. The thing that made it unique was that the cuffs were purple and I ended up coloring it purple; my alegiance called it the "Barney Suit". They were all jelous of its stats tho =P

  • It's been so long I don't even remember their names; but there were these items in everquest  pre-kunark that when they dropped for my Monk I drooled on myself in utter disbelief and shock over my good fortune......

I'd have to say in some of the older MMO's pre-wow-raid bop(which goes for most of the new A++ types like War,etc..)  type items which everyone seems to get eventually were the coolest things... Especially in games like Everquest, DAOC, and SWG pre-CU/NGE were mind-numbingly cool to get; very few people had them and they couldn't be sold in the tunnel outside queynos or freeport (really burning the wood in my brain to try to remember, lol). oh and piecing together the bounty hunter armor (again cant remember the name) in SWG was cool too; took forever to find each piece and the get someone to use it and make the armor was pretty sweet considering it's rarity...

    1)  If someone buys stuff they didn't find it.  They'd have no place in this thread.

    2)  You will still find your stuff.  You'll still have your acomplishment.  Why are you so darn worried about everyone else?

90%+ of the problems in our world are due to people forcing their ideals and morals on everyone else.  How does it feel to be part of the problem?

AC1, a nice AR tinkered weapon, on a combine that should've failed but it made it despite the odds

In SWG (pre) I wanted a Tuskan Rifle that I could use instead of the higher cert. rifles.  I liked the way the tuskan rifle looked and loved the way it sounded.  It had such a sharp retort. They also did massive mind damage for their cert level and unaltered.  So I contacted a weaponsmith who said he could make me a bad-ass tuskan.  He sent me on quest after quest to find the materials he needed, sometimes I would come back, wait, just for him to tell me the quality wasn't good enough, and send me back for something better.  I was beginning to think he was f*cking with me, but finally after about 3-4 weeks, I had collected everything he wanted, and he made me my rifle, which he had sliced for optimum dmg out put.  That rifle was amazing and it was the only one on the server, probably in the game.

It was a great time and experience getting that gun.

    Thanks

and many others that did not make the cut or i just plain forgetting about.

  • My rarest item was legendary hammer of the Fire Lord, Ragnaros in Classic WoW. I was playing warrior called Vonart on Ravencrest server, it was most popular server on EU.Got spam whisper from many player and crashed few times first night when made my hammer with eye of sulfuras :). Took me 5 months to collect some epic materials to made it.

While not especially rare, I had the honor of creating the first EU release Arcanite Reaper in WoW, this was 11 days after release, I had recruited the alchemists before release.

Probably a Half Full Jug of Wine in RuneScape, I still have it on a banned account. There's like 3-5 of them left in the whole RS.

    Or

Panther Killing 5 Scroll in Angels Online, I was the 4th on the whole server to get it. It was a drop from a boss that spawns once in 30 mins, and the chances for getting it were 0,13%.

In a MUD I used to play I had a "Tarkin's Handkerchief". I'm pretty convinced no one else had one :P

    look handkerchief

It's worn, well-used and in a dire need of washing.

    hold handkerchief

You clutch it like a security blanket!

    grin

    You grin.

In Ultima Online, I received a tunic for participating in a special event. They were created specially for the event, and there were only about a dozen made. After the event, I sold it for $100.

The Baron's mount, Death Charger, in WoW.  Before they upped the drop rate.

  • peglegpegleg Member UncommonPosts: 212

Back in 2002 a time before WoW  I used to play Ragnarok Online. I had 2 accounts. One had a Bard and one had Sage. I would charge for the hour to Summon Boss thru Abracadabra. I ended up with 2 Golden Thieft Cards 1 Behamut 1 Maya and 2 Doppleganger Cards.  I also bought a ton of Old Purple Box where i got my Glasses wit hone slot which was pimp in that time.

All MMO's have grinds. If you don't like to Grind then MMO's are not for you.

Nice thread.  It brought me back to some old games I haven't played/thought about in a while.

In SWG I a bunch of rare items, though nothing I would classify as jaw dropping in rarity.  Among my combat related rarities; I had a DE-10 Pistol, a full suit of RIS armor, a Trando Hunting Rifle, and a KS Firespray.  I had loads of rugs, paintings, and holos too.  A full set of all the JTL paintings was probably the rarest of decorative loot.

In WoW the rarest thing I ever had was the legendary hammer Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros.  I was lucky enough to have the highest DKP in my guild the night the Eye dropped off Rag.  It took me another six months of farming to gather the rest of the mats needed to craft the damn the thing. Not to mention the scores of angry guild warriors I had to deal with who cried that the hammer was wasted on a paladin.  Then sadly all my months of effort were made useless when BC hit and my legendary hammer was out classed by 66-68 lvl greens.  That more than anything killed WoW for me.  I hung around for the rest of the BC, though I never really got back into hardcore raiding.  I finally left with Lich King.

Back in my DAOC days I spent 88 hours farming "Shades 3 of 3" for the Shades of Mist book.  Daoc players will remember this one ; )

The Flower Black Silk Sash in EQ1 was probably the rarest drop I had obtained in an MMO. I wasn't camping lower guk for that item in particular but more exp grinding with the group when it dropped. i had probably spent dozens of hours in that one room and was ecstatic when I won the roll.

After the group was finished the SK wanted to purchase the FBSS for around 8k platinum and I was a very happy camper after that.
