Putting aside the unmentionables, it is always nice to see mmos that break away from the norm. Variety is a good thing.
But the danger of moving away from a tried and true formula is that the developers are in unchartered territory and there's an increased risk of seriously screwing something up. Darkfall is a prime example. In theory, it had the potential to be an absolutely awesome game, but they got a few things spectacularly wrong and their sandbox turned out to be a litterbox.
and no, I wasn't confused, merely attempting to put a little accuracy into the discussion. Using a description as a "WoW clone" does not make sense when dealing with a MMO based on a Superhero setting, thereby my insistence that CO should be considered a CoH clone.
That's probably because you don't understand the expression "WoW Clone", it doesn't only means it is the same setting (fantasy) but it means the gameplay, quest driven, level base and classe base, dumbdown crafting etc..........
So games like Champions Online, Fallen Earth, Eathrise, Spellborn think outside the box and try to do something different, in setting and gameplay. So this is why the OP refer as why their is so many "WoW Clone" in the industry, because when something new/different comes out people are too scared of it and want their old gameplay back. So companies tries to get their part of the cake and copie WoW.
Actually, I do understand what you are saying, and it could be argued that you do not understand yourself, as in years past a "WoW clone" was considered to be an "EQ clone" for many the same reasons you are quoting.
And its only natural for the bean counters in charge of other games to want to emulate the success of WoW, after all it IS the biggest MMO around atm - sadly.
But, I stand by what I have said about CO - its not a WoW Clone, purely based on the Genre, design and implementation.
(PS: I've been testing CO since Alpha - so have a reasonable idea of what I'm talking about)
Before the trolls march in, I will say that I am excited too.. But boy oh boy are you in for the fight of your life once the Aion fans catch wind of this thread...lol
w/e aion is another asian game a clone of the mass of spam junk games they release over and over that are just as terrible as there predicessors TROLL THAT. champions online is just a updated clone of CoX but hey im going to give it a shot. not aion though lol forget that noise.

Huh? The NDA is dropped, there was a review in a thread 3 days ago and one of the mods said there that the NDA was dropped????
Are you sure it is still up, this sounds weird.
