Because they offered it on the 6 month subscription already and there was no reason not to? There was also no "disaster" when they offered it. But then again, tin foil hats are shiny

Oh i thought maybe it was to encourage people to fork over the money, i didnt realize they were doing it because they are such good guys.  If they are throwing in tin foil hats that might help as well.  Problem is if they cant get a patcher to work at this stage of things i see problems but then common sense has no place here i suppose.

I suppose if this is your first MMO, you would not have had problems like this before, for which I empathize. You see, even the most popular MMOs that have been out for years still have problems on patch days. I hope this isn't much of a revelation for you. The good news is, though, that seeing as this is a precursor to the actual launch, it's likely that the problems will be fixed for when it actually counts. I'm not sure what you're trying to get at though with your comments about the subscription offerings. First you say it smells fishy that they offered STO beta, and then you say you thought they did it to get people to fork over money. Of course they want people to fork over money, that's one of their jobs. However as you'll note, they put up those offers before anyone had any problems with the patcher. Conspiracies aren't that becoming honestly. Perhaps you are just grumpy.

Of course they put the offers up before the patch problems. They put lifetime sub offers up way to early. And yes problems do happen but at the same time game companies do deliver sub standard products on a regular basis and im continually amazed at how people forget that and defend their favorite flavor at every turn. I hope your game does well as the market could use some well made, smooth launching games but im not holding my breath.

    NNNNEeerrrrrddddd raaaagggeee!!!

ya, tomorrow everyone will be logging in and all of this will be a thing of the past.

I mean, if the only thing people are complaing about is not being able to log in then theyre doing pretty fricken amazing for an open beta.  It also means people REALLY want to get in and play so its highly anticipated.

How could they complain about anything else if they can't log in or patch the game?

I see no reason to get all hot under the collar myself seeing how ob just began but...well...like I said above.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

theres plenty of people that have logged in and have been playing for quite some time today.  Yet the only complaints you see on the forums is not being able to log in.  I guess that was my point

I have to agree with the other people on the thread.  If you are upset that you couldn't get in on the first day of open beta, well then good luck playing any MMO.  Mistakes are made durring beta.  Things break.  That's why it's a stress test.  If your buying decisions are based on the fact that your patience is not greater than a few hours, then it's unlikely that any new product will satisfy you.

    My advice, never play Beta's.
