Until we see some actual gameplay footage, it's still just vaporware as far as I am concerned.
Well they already announced that they would be showing the first trailer this week at GameCon along with other tidbits. But yes, you are entitled to be wrong if you so you choose
Ya, releasing info about GW2, could get people interested in Aion. People who would and will play GW2, might move into Aion for a while, until GW2 is released.
So doing that could very well help Aion.
Of course, they are doing this, because no doubt we will see a video or something for the new blizz MMO at blizzcon. And as I just said, that will get some people to play wow again, even though the new mmo is a new IP.
I cant wait!!!! GW2 will be the best MMO ever Think we might have a WoW killer on our hands?
No. But it might kill or at least hurt the P2P model of most MMO companies. Now we will finally get a true MMO without monthly fees or itemshops. That will all P2P MMOs feel.
But it is not inended to kill Wow and it won't, at least not for years. The combination Blizzards next game, TOR and GW2 could theoreticly kill Wow but I don't think it will happen, the thing that will kill Wow is Wow 2 if even that.
Wow will probably not be the only big game in 3 years but it will be along for 10 more years or so, even if it will slowly shrink.

The main reason I think it might be a WoW killer is mainly the f2p aspect. By the sounds of it, it will be a great MMO without monthly fees. If it doesnt "kill" wow it will at least hurt it. I think it will deffinitly put up a good fight.
Off topic: Wow 2.. would that even happen? I mean with such a big fanbase with WoW, I dont think it would be a good idea on Blizzards part to take a risk with that.

Not to troll but what does it matter if it kills WoW? I seriously dont understand why people want WoW to die? If people have fun playing it, good for them. Am i missing something? LOL
I think GW2 is going to be a killer game whether it kills WoW or not..what does it matter?
Info will be nice but how many more years until GW2 will release. I wonder how long "a lot of work ahead of us" is in regards to a release date. They admited to 2 years dev time. I am going to speculate we at least have another year of waiting. Plently of time to try and quit Aion.
I agree with almost every single post that says ,it does not matter if it is a WOW killer ,as long as you are having fun.
I really have no idea the approach GW2 will have, probably the same as GW1?If so i just do not think this game should be discussed on a MMO forum,it is not a MMORPG.I played GW1 i know a little about it,it was not bad, heck i would have to say it is a better series than AION,a LOT more content than AION,but it is not a MMO.We have all had fun playing single player games,i have also, this is the category GW2 should fall into as well.
The thing that might bother me more about a "NEW" NCSOFT title,is the quality and is it just more GW1,with a new number beside the name to generate interest and sales? What i am saying is it going to be a GW1 update but call it a new game?Well if you believe NCSOFT,they are going to use a NEW ENGINE,hats off it is true,i applaud them for "once" :P.
They also claim higher PC specs will be needed to run the game, they are going to target mid range PC's,again i applaud this move,i would never expect that from NCSOFT,they already had an Unreal license and botched it ,so go figure they are making 360's on their decisions. They have also said new player development ideas, again this sounds very good, once again i am surprised at their direction,.."IF" it is all true,we will see eventually.I know for one they did a lot of lying about Aion, and a TON of lying to me in emails on bot reporting,so they can't be trusted very much ,just yet.
Personally like i always say,i have a good gut feeling that NEVER lets me down.I believe this may actually be NCSOFTS best effort to date, but they are not designing a game to operate like a MMORPG,so it is debatable as to how far you could rate their effort.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

"There will be changes to the instancing system used. Persistent areas, similar to those traditionally used in other online multiplayer games, will be introduced to Guild Wars which may allow players to meet and interact while exploring.
If you read more from the wiki it is truly a completely different game then Guild Wars 1. Its set in a completely different time period, introduces new playable races, and there are many more differences I can list.
I don't take NCSoft as a company to add a number to generate hype. If it were truly just an expansion, they would sell it as an expansion.

ArenaNet is making this, NCSoft is only distributing the game. How is GW not a mmorpg? What determines an mmo? Lets find out what your definition is. To me it is an mmorpg.
GW2 will be more "traditional" in that it will have higher level caps, a persistent world, and multiple races. They are keeping the skill set system and class system I believe though, which to me are the most important aspects of Guild Wars. I personally loved henchmen and heros but many did not. I'm not sure how they are approaching mercs in GW2.
here we go with the MMO-Not MMO argument again. GW is not your traditional online RPG game, and in spite of this, or because of this, its one of the most successful online game. above poster is right, ARENANET is the developer of the game, not NCSOFT. and ANET is a "separate and self-contained development studio" according to founder Mike Obrien.
o.o i jsut woke up...is this a dream? if it is its the meanest dream ever....but its not a dream! *pinches self* about time they said something useful besides the "coming next year with no info"

WoW is the #1 MMO because Blizzard has worked very hard to refine the game and game world. Other companies could take this approach as well. Most companies release titles that only appeal to a either PvE or PvP audience, while WoW has 'tried' to cater to both player bases. I don't care about killing WoW. I do care about playing a quality game, and I believe ArenaNet can produce that. However it will not be a WoW killer because I don't think that's the market they are shooting for.
While Guild Wars 2 adds a persistent world, it retains the unique nature of the original game including a strong narrative, extensive instanced gameplay, an anti-grind design philosophy, and strong support for competitive play."

Hmm that's very old information. Unless you know something the rest of us don't I'd guess a lot has changed in the past two years. As for differences I'd say the skill system, the ANTI GRIND philosophy, original lore. Not to mention supperior PvP.

A trailer is not gameplay footage. A trailer is essentially a cartoon advertisement.

Yeah. I worry less about a wow killer, than having fun.
