Can you expand on what you mean. I'm not understanding what you mean by nowhere to go. Most of the missions so far seem a lot more varied than the classic go kill swamp rats or go deliver this to that. It also has the nemesis system, which i think is pretty new. If you have any killer ideas, share them. Or better yet tweet them to twitter.com/CrypticDomestic (im pretty sure that girl is the one who writes the missions).

There is definately good things to say about CO. Frist off, I didnt play Champions long, I played their CB for a little while and soon to begin their open beta phase(the initial impression is what matters). So...the first thing I thoroughly enjoyed was the level of customization that they offered. There are tons of costume peices and variations of costumes that you can mix and match. You can also randomize a costume to get ideas for how you want your character to look. You can also choose to customize your characters entire body from the head down to the feet or for the more casual players you can simply choose a "preset" option of the face shape, body shape, ect.

Now to talk about the gameplay, my first impression with my melee based character is that the auto attack was actually a repeated combo that regenerated my energy. This was definately different than what im use to but I quickly realized how fun and fast paced this made the combat. Also if you dont like the auto attack animations for whatever reason ( I usually turned off mine in sequence with certain moves to see all the other cool attack animations with my Single Blade) you can choose not to use it all the time becasue eventually most melee characters get an attack that generates momentum which in turn has an effect on certain other abilities, most of which the momentum effect caused my other attacks to not have an energy cost or to cause them to regenerate energy. Something else that I found very fun and interested was the different "type" of attacks that were available; by this I mean that some attacks you can charge them and release them for more damage some you simply click (there are other types I believe those are the main ones I've encountered). Enough of that.

Last but not least is the travel powers. I played around with some of these a bit ; they all are fun in their own way and nearly all of them operate differently. For instance, the normal flight is much different from the ice flight (I thought it would be the same but just on a platform) ; the ice flight is a lot harder to ascend with because of the weight of the Ice I'm assuming and the normal flight offers a much more free range of motion in about every direction. One more thing about travel powers that I noticed that was very interesting to me is that, you have the choice to charge your travel power up ( by clicking and holding the button) or you can simply click it and be on your way.....but if you simply click it you will initially run at a much slower speed and have to gain actual "momentum" to get up to your max speed. Well....those are some good things I thought about CO, I think it deserves this attention. Could have added more but I'm tired of typing >.>

Found lots of bugs but its still beta no complaints there but the damn game engine is a joke, laggy like hell, graphics look crap for a brand new game, tons of stability issues, even got crashes during the character creation, I really dont understand where was all the hype coming from.

The UI is poorly done, clunky movement for a fast paced combat style, pvp is a joke and not just because balance issues, which are game breaking btw but everyone will just stick to the same powers.

Melees are heavily underpowered also, and no option to skip the crappy tutorials.

5 out of 10 from me. but remember its just a beta opinion, things can improve, sadly the engine cant be changed.

No chance this game will get past 500k subs im affraid and with Aion around the corner... this game cant compete.

What can I say I havent had fun like this since Warhammer first came out.

Much better then I thought it would be expecially with the poor comments leave about the game.. Sure it could use some polishing up in some areas but overall its a very enjoyable game, and thats pretty much what im looking for in a GAME (HAVING FUN).

I'm wondering if it's your rig because the people who seem to have these issues tend to have older models or ironically high end systems.  Cryptic is still optimizing the game.  That being said, this game is not like WoW.  You really do need a decent graphics card and processor.

I think the graphics are great and on a good system, the game is very smooth.  I think graphics are hit or miss with most folks. Can't help you with the combat.  Maybe it's not your style?

Cryptic would be absolutely ecstactic if CO hit 500K subs.  Right now they will be more than satisfiyed with around 150K-200K which is doable.  And since you mentioned Aion, I'm guessing you are a PvPer.  If that's the case, yeah, play Aion.  CO emphasizes PvE.

I like the game alot.. better then aion by far......

Sure i have some problems like its laggy ( but that is due to my pc.. Im running a 2.2 ghz cpu with 2 gigs of ram)  Tomarrow ill be ordering a 3.2ghz cpu and 6 gigs of ram..  So smooth sailing after that...

The combat is fast and fluid. i love the travel powers.. better then any stupid ass mount in any other game and 2x  better then coh/v travel powers.

If you Liked coh/v  (or like the concept atleast) then i think you will really like this one.

You have to be pretty stupid, or a troll, to think this game isn't good.  Sure its got bugs, every game has bugs with every update.   Just remember the Haters/Trolls usually have the biggest mouths.  Play it have fun and ignore (I mean put them on ignore) the Haters/trolls.

Oh, and by the way, give this game a pass.  It truely is just a wreck.

    Troll much?

To buy the lifetime or the 6months pack you first need the game key.

If you buy the game (so you can have a game key duh!) you get access to the beta this week.

You can play the game before you buy lifetime. Clear enough? Or do I need to draw it for you?

trolls this days... such a fail.... not even good a trolling the trolls are!

Oh man, if its one thing in that game I cant stand it is the art style. I have been playing MMOs since M59 and I can honestly say that this is the first game ever to turn me off just with its art style. There are some cool things in the game, but I simply can not get over the art style. I have a 4 year old rig and I turned everything to max and it still ran smoothly, but it still just looked horrible in my opinion. But hey, everyone is different and I am not going to blame cryptic for that, because I know its my fault I dont like the style, But seriously, oh man, I am sooo glad I didnt buy that lifetime offer.

The game is going to hold it's own just like CoX did. I just fear it's coming out at a bad time, being that Aion is launching at the same time and has a lot more going for it. I would have liked to try both but they aren't giving me a chance, many people will have to pick and choose which title they want to play at launch. For me that is Aion.

Really? Funny how most people with old rigs are complaining that they cant play the game with everything on min. You must have a supercomputer or something.

The game runs fine on my 2 years old PC (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66,  2Gb ram, Nvidia GT 8600). Not on max but between average and max, and my fps is around 50. Oh and I play from far far away.. my ping is 300.

The graphics are different. You can turn off the comics outlines (I do unless I want to do a screenshoot). They look great and the videos/screens on full max are quite amazing. But you will need a new PC to run on max.

BUT you do not need a uber PC to run it with high fps, no lag and great graphics.

I disagree. Aion is a different animal, with big focus on PvP and grind.

CO PvP is a sidegame, grind is minimal (you can get to max level in about 50 hours) and it has a great focus on fun. And alts, but as alts are fun on CO, that is obvious ;-)

CO fun start at level 1 and keeps going well after you are 40. And restart everytime you play a alt!

First of all, I started playing on the open beta, have not tried it in CB, so I'm giving you my opinion based on 2 days of playing.

For those saying the graphics are cluncky or they're lagging, I have one thing to say to you, go buy a new computer. I have mys ettings on maximum, the graphcis are really cool, looks like you're in a comic book, have not felt any lag whatsoever in 2 full days of playing.

Forget about the sub options or about the patching problems, the game itself is very cool.

I played CoX for a while and liked the game, but CO is 100 times better. It doesn't take 3 seconds between each skill, the combat is very fast paced, the missions are fun and diversified, you don't feel that you're killing rats and boars for 10 levels, you really feel part of the storyline.

Something I love is that about the missions is that you can find a lot of hidden missions and you get a lot of missions from random people in the street who come up to you because you've made a name for yourself.

The character customization is huge and fun. The powersets are really well thought and stats actually make a huge difference in this game.

I'm lvl 20 now, have experienced a lot of different things in the game, and I love it.

Just a quick question, sorry if it has been answered. Can CO play ok with an Intel Chipset? Not sure which one my computer has, but just wanting to know. I'm buying a Mac pretty soon (Wont be playing any games on it, though), So I just wanted to see if I can test out CO before I do. Thanks!

  • GolarumGolarum Member Posts: 151

Of course it can, why wouldnt it? All games can play on Intel chipsets.

You're completely wrong. The lifetime subscription was given at the request of people beta testing. The mass of people choosing this route are beta testers. Your assumptions aren't fact.

To the OPer: The reason you only see negative post is because the haters want to come to forums and cry about how it's not WoW. While the people enjoying the game are to busy playing to go to the forums. Server is down for a patch, that's why I am here. If you want to play something fun and different play CO. If you want to play the most customizable MMO to date, play CO. The game is very fun.

I am enjoying it.  The game is fun and looks great on my computer.  I am concerned about just a few things however.  PVE is almost too easy at this point and not quite sure what endgame holds.  It is a very similar and feels like a coh/cov part 2.  The combat system thus far is great.  There are some obvious balance issues that player input over time will nerf certain skills as there are no real archtypes.  I see a lot of good things from the pvp I have participated in so far.

That said, the game is a load of fun so far.

What level are you and whats your build?  If your running around as a tank type character (Superstat CON) with a defensive passive... the game is pretty easy.  You are offensively rather lame though, atleast compared to a offensive based toon.  It's the same as WoW in that respect... run around as a prot paladin and you can solo elites easily and pretty much never die... but you lose out on killing speed and fun factor.  The lower levels are pretty forgiving as well.

If you build your guy offensively, you'll kill stuff wayyyy faster... but you get hit wayyyy harder.  If you find the game too easy, you might have more fun modifying your build to a more offensive nature.

The game does get harder as you go up in levels, I noticed a moderate jump in difficulty around ~20.

This game spretty good i think

Yes I think the character customisation is fantastic and the travel powers are well executed too, CoX note of the extra travel powers and copy/imitate their implementation if you have any sense.

Sadly, and I mean that, I am not enjoying the game. I was really looking forward to it as I like the genre and am now completely bored of the same old map sets in CoX but I don't see why they completely dropped the idea of personalised instances. This was/is one of the best ideas I've seen in any MMO and can only assume it was resources and/or considered anti-teaming. I'm finding the open play area really game breaking at the moment because of all the kill/mission stealing that's going on, probably by accident half the time. I tend to solo in games but am prepared to team and the missions are easy to complete as a team but if they are in a busy area you can lose the objective to another team/player too easily. This should probably be a priority because I can see it being a major turn off for most?

It feels all shiny surfaces and no real depth but with two days experience I'd take my own judgement with a pinch of salt. I've tried four powersets and some are definitely more powerful than others which is unwise in a game without character classes, you'll end seeing a lot of toons all with same 'uber' powersets running around. The game is pretty much going into its paid beta phase and that sounds snide I know but all games do that so no biggy. There is a lot of balancing/nerfing to come as a larger player base grinds the game into a smoother paste.

I won't be buying it at the moment but will keep an open mind and be back in about six months to see what the polished game looks and plays like.

First my apologies to the few that are posting positive things about this game on this form.

However, as most of us who frequent "MMORPG" know  this sight is predominately populated/frequented by people looking for new games to play. Most people playing and enjoying CO and other games they enjoy arn't here ... they are in game playing . :)

"MMORPG" will always be the "I played it and didn't like it so I'm here to see what else there is"  form.  The best example of this is the constant "I hate WoW " rants. I mean really ... think about it ... WoW, "THE" most popular game in the world, is rated @ 30 here. Thats behind games like "Vendetta Oline, Requiem, Wizard 101, etc.

I no longer play WoW because I'm finished with it. I certainly won't be playing Aion cause I've played Wow, WAR, AoC, Runes, Requiem, TCoS, etc. and I'm tired of the Fantasy genre for a while. But I did enjoy some of those for a while.

If u want insight into a game ur interested in the best place to get it is prolly the forms for that game or try a trial if possible.

The only review you can be certain you'll find on "MMORPG" ... is a negative one. There will be very few positive ones.

Since I've started this post, I actually decided to not wait for release and try the beta myself.  In the very short time I've been playing I feel this sums up my feelings perfectly.

I very much wanted to see this game succeed, mostly because I am sick to death of fantasy MMOs, and love the superhero genre.  I was reading so much negatively about the game, that I had to experience it firsthand.  As a result, let me say that I regrettably am putting it on my "wait and see" list as well.  It could develop into something good, but I am going to give it time to cook a bit more.

I love the powers and effects.  I would say they are just slightly better in appearance than CoX (but that's debatable).  I love the idea of the powerhouse.  I was trying out many of the starter and travel powers.  It's great that some powers let you choose where you want them to emanate from.  Lots of fun there, but there has to be more to keep me in a game than just flashy effects and costume design.  Like the poster I quoted, this is just from a couple of days experience, but I feel you can tell shortly after playing whether or not a game "has it" or doesn't.  Also, I never bought the argument that this is "just beta".  I see this argument with every game I have been in beta with, and when you are this close to release, what you see is what you get.  If it were 6 months before release, I would agree that things could drastically change, but not now.

Thanks for all the replies, which were mostly civil.  I'm not writing this game off, but as it stands now, I just can't see paying $50 and then $15 a month for a game that I can't see myself playing for more than a very short time in it's current state.
