    Cool things:

Plant people!  Which for some reason reminds me of the plant-based race in Starflight 2 (Elowan.)
Sidekicking!  It's about time more games started stealing this feature.  Now you can play with friends regardless of your level difference.
More story/script-driven gameplay!  Until WOTLK, GW1 was really the only MMORPG I felt approached the quality of a good single player game.  So it's great to hear that they're sticking with the instanced-heavy approach (while trying to cater to those gruff persistent-world fellows.)

Things I hope make it in:

Jumping?  Simultaneously the least and most important feature of an MMORPG apparently.  Mostly it was irritating as hell in GW1 to be a Brave And Awesome Hero™ and be unable to scale a 2 foot tall inclined hill.  Hopefully GW2 has jumping.
More skill slots?  8 skill slots in GW1 limited players' options too much mid-fight, and just wasn't enough stuff.  A good solution is giving each skill an "alt-fire" (so you equip 8 things and get 16 indvidual skills.)

But realistically they'll end up doing something else entirely (possibly combining a equippable skills system with a more mainstream skill progression like you see in other MMORPGs.)

Interesting skills!  GW1 still has the most interesting skills in any MMORPG.  All sorts of conditional stuff, and all sorts of crazy combos you could put together.  Here's hoping their abilities don't get dumbed down too much during the transition to a more normal MMORPG experience.

It's already well-known you'll be able to jump, swim, etc. I even think they mentioned climbing (as in climbing trees).

Pretty sure it will have more skill slots, it's not instanced anymore, so the skills system should be just like in other MMO's.

And the classes are based on GW1, pretty sure the skills will be too.

    And I'm glad you like the Sylvari too, they're my favourite race, anyone disagreeing with their überness deserves to die. :}

This is just the kind of quality I came to expect from Anet (NOT NCsoft, like some people think ;) ).

It was a trailer, much like the WoW ones.
I am more interested in seeing an actual game, not pretty pictures of what "could" be.
If its a proper MMORPG with a persistant world, then its a step in the right direction.

Oh man, this reeks of utter fail. Half of the trailer consisted of "in-game shots." The community manager has stated that all the in-game footage is from actual areas in-game and none of it is pre-rendered on top of it all. So unless you're completely blind, or didn't watch the trailer, you would have seen in-game shots.

And the last sentence makes it clear you've done no research regarding the game either.

Wasn't trolling and I suggest you rewatch the trailer.

I saw no one playing any kind of character or interaction with the world or anything.

All I saw was some carefully animated scenes.

Whether they are in the world or not, what it looks like in the actual finished game is what is important, not some nicely animated trailer.

Just because there aren't any game characters, doesn't mean it's not in-game. ;) And if you ever played GW1, you'd know that everything is carefully animated. That trailer just showed some of the lands that we, as GW1 players, have seen before, but all reworked.

They probably just showed the biggest cities of Tyria, from a good point of view of course. You can't expect them to eb recording a trailer, and just record a wall. Of course they'll show the more interesting places. But that doesn't make it any less in-game. ;)

    Amazing!

The game looks blinding, lets hope the game play hasn't changed much from GW1

I agree this looks amazing, but its changing alot. For the better though, they have announced it will not be full instanced like the original guild Wars, it will be a real MMO only using istances when needed and not all the time.

Looks Impressive, But I have a question, I was never much into GW1 because of its non MMORPG world, heavily instanced etc... will GW2 be different (AKA a true persistant world like the standard MMOS we have today or will it be the same hubs and then you go out into the wild with a small group)?

I looked at the FAQ and it says:

"Will Guild Wars 2 be an MMO?

Yes. Guild Wars 2 provides a massive, online persistent world."

Was there any official word on their intentions of making a proper MMORPG or will it just follow the GW1 model?

You just answered your own question? :) A massive and persistent world is what you see in almost every other MMO. It won't follow the usual MMO design though, the world is supposed to be dynamic. Look at some of the articles, they gave an example of a dragon destroying the city. If you see the dragon flying to the city, you can (try to) kill it, and you'll save the city, being a hero, and being rewarded. If ti destroys it, there'll be new quests to rebuild the city etc. If you had to collect a quest reward, but that quest NPC died, well, too bad. :)

I've long since given up using trailers as a base point for my expectations about a game.  Some of the shittiest games - and films - I have ever seen had good trailers.

Frankly, the trailer was about average.

That's why you base the sequel on the success of the original.

Ehh, I dunno. I think I'll have to wait and see on this one. The graphics are improved from GW1 but they're about comparable to Aion I'd say.

So far I also haven't heard anything to distinguish it from every other fantasy mmo we've got.

Artwork looks good, except I didn't care much for the small gnome like character or whatever it was.

I also would have liked to have seen some in game combat, that's what 90% of most MMORPGs, and especially GW, is all about, but I'm sure we'll see that soon enough.

Well, Aion, now Guild Wars 2, it seems NCSoft will become the number 1 MMO game company

Dear God! Great design! I loved everything about that trailer!

This is the game I've been wating for for a long time. GW has always had a very strong playerbase in the west. This will definatly be the number 2 mmo in the west when it releases

I was going to be disappointed at first thinking it was going to be all a "concept art trailer" but as it got to ingame stuff.... Jeremy Soule music blaring, heart started thumping, got the shakes....  There was no chance that I wouldn't be IN before, but now my 'can't wait-edness' is beyond control

Heh, It looks like they took all of the good MMO's out there, slammed them all together, and upped the graphics, and did a pretty good job.... hmm now the gameplay is the only thing I need to test out before wanting or not wanting to make this the new game for me to play

Launch aion, launch soon, cause the big brother is coming and he´s bloodlust *.*

    now: GW2 (11 80s).
    Dark Souls 2.
    future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord.
    "Bro, do your even fractal?"
Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

Looks very pretty for sure. I'm sure people who enjoyed the first Guild Wars will love this. Sadly, Guild Wars was never really my kind of game. Maybe I just didn't get a good start into it. ^^

But please people, don't act as though they are suddenly making it into an OPEN world. Because they are not.

"How is Guild Wars 2 different from other MMOs?

While Guild Wars 2 adds a persistent-world experience, it retains the unique characteristics of the original game, including strong narrative, extensive instanced gameplay, anti-grind design philosophy, and strong support for competitive play."

Directly from the site's FAQ. It will be the same sort of game the first GW was. Which is good, because after all GW was a big success. ^^

Edit: I am guessing the persistant world simply means you now actually get to see people outside of the hubs for a change! But missions/story/major gameplay will still happen where it has always happened. At least that's how I read this FAQ point.

Don't forget that Blade & Soul is on it's way as well. With Blade & Soul, Aion, and Guild Wars 2, ol' NCSoft just might have a chance.

NCSoft has actually been trying to become #1 for years now. And they might have been able to reach that goal at one time, if it wasn't for Blizzard blowing everyone out of the water like it was nothing. But with WoW starting to loose some of it's steam lately, LOTS of people have been leaving the game, looking for something better, myself included, even with a supposive expansion on it's way, Cataclysm,  which doesn't seem like it's not going to be a very good on in my opinion, NCSoft just might have a chance once again to rise above them all after all these years.

That is until Blizzard's next MMO hits the shelves...

Makes AION look so bland and outdated. Amazing structural design. Everything is so huge and grand. WOW!!!!

  • natuxatunatuxatu Member UncommonPosts: 1,364

    Amazing! I seriously got a little emotional watching that. Guild Wars and FFXI were my favorite MMOs of all time and now I get a sequel to both @_@ ;

I loved the art style and set up, it seems so much grander. The graphics are truely amazing, especially if it still runs as smoothly as GW did. There is no way you can call this a "wow clone" just one look and you know it's its going to be something unique and special.

Btw it looks there will be swimming with the underwater area, thus probably jumping and all that good stuff. I'm going to go back and watch it again to get a look at some of the armor and stuff :)

Two thumbs way up! :) :)

    Total wow clone...

All joking aside, that was a very impressive trailer.  I thought it was nothing but some concept art and clever flash at first.  Then I noticed the camera was actually roaming around a 3d world.  Very nice looking.
