That is the exact core of what I was trying to say. It seems odd to me that they would call this stage "beta" and have us testing things that should already be good to go. I mean come on, can you imagine the outrage if SOE or Blizz said we are gonna let you beta test their login server or launch pad??? as MO has done. Its a complete cop out. I understand the need to stress test the login server, however with zero content in the game at this point other than pretty scenery and a few huts and buildings... Come on...

I fully agree-the developers of MO have made promises they can't keep. This is NOT a beta game. Its in early alpha and at least 2 years away from any tangible release. Release this year and there will be so little content in the game.

Beta versions of a game do not denote a finished product(ie one that is sellable to the public).  That is according to my CC company.

Early alpha is about right. I don't want to hammer SV over this, the game is visually is stunning...but thats about it. As to your second point, that brings up a good question. Why would a company charge in full up front for pre-orders. There are plenty of mmos who allow for beta access without being fully charged. It leads me to believe this "indie" game maker needs the cash, hmmmm to possibly finish their game?

Coming from a darkfall fan, it seems like the most ridiculous things are being argued about. I read about what would be in the beta posted by the devs and it sounds like they are just testing the basic structures of a MMO. Then they will probably add in the content later on. If they follow through and put in everything they promised then MO will be a great game.

i completely agree with you. i have been following this game for a couple months now just trying to soak up more and more information about the game.  MANY people have whined saying 'its not going to be out for another 2-3 years from the looks of the beta", but the developers have stated that they are dong the beta in phases. so the first phase was alpha where they only tested combat. the next phase was just testing the servers and stability. during this phase many people could basically only run and jump around naked. after this phase was done they added in more features they already completed for the game to let more users test them out.

they have stated many times that they have the core features (if not more) already complete but they are doing this in phases to help fix the bugs in steps. the main island everyone is playing on isnt even the island the retail game is going to be on. i guess you could label it as the 'beta' island. so before other people complain about this 'beta seems like crap' please, do your research first and then post a more intelligent comment.

Lord Tasos would test it all with bots and have it out on Tuesday a week past  !    /sarcasm

Seriously, it will be very, very interesting in the next few weeks to see if the features get switched on. We've all been here before with DF and we know AV lied constantly. What will happen with MO ? Who knows but I salute the brave pre-orders as usual because that money could have bought you a lot of ice cream and cookies.

alpha: internal testing of the product by the company developing it and/or  a number of prefoessional paid testers.

beta: public test of the product.

But really it doesnt matter to me  even if you call it Tit´s stage or w/e. THe thing is that SV posted what we were going to test. And we got what they promised. And now you come here with your worries and you havent event read that announcement....so wtf dude?

Is it SV fault for not delivering the product you were imagining or IS IT YOUR FAULT FOR NOT READING ABOUT WHAT YOU WERE BUYING?

another and last point: you say that the game is done arround 10%

And I say that devs LET you have access to only 10% of the game.

A lot of stuff is already done. They are just activating it little by little. If you have really participated in so many testing you would have known that the point of doing so is to have a solid base upon w hich expand. If they just throw all at you it will be a hell to track bugs and fix them.

So dont be worried about the game my friend...be worried about your inablity to read.

Number one friend... I never once complained about paying for the pre-order, I only questioned the need to take payment in full when most other companies don't. Number two, the announcement is a complete bull sh*t cop out, we are testing stuff that should already be done. Number three, if you actually believe that they can just magically add the other 90% "whenever" they want and the game run smoothly...youre a fool. Hence the reason this game will be pushed back, just a matter of time.

I dont really think they will push back the game, they sent the preorders out to make some cash for the last 3 months of development. Dont think they can afford more than that and will be released with well....idk we will find out

Following the game for information is fine, but until you actually test the game and see its actual state, please hold your opinions. For those that remember the Vanguard beta, this is a perfect example, that game was nowhere ready to be launched, and those of us who tested the game said that... But what do you know, Sigil and SoE released the game anyways over 1 year prior to when they should have, and the game just now has started to recover. I for one am done paying to beta test games at launch (SWG, Vanguard, AoC....) and as paying customers we should all hold the compaines to a higher standard.

I get the feeling you didn't read anything about the beta.  The world we currently have access to in-game is only half one the first continent.  We can't go everywhere, yet.  I imagine that's mainly for the sake of keeping the client size small and keeping the playerbase more concentrated for the sake of stressing the servers and giving us the chance to find and interact with each other.  The devs claim to have 6 continents the size of this one(of which we currently have access to half).  Only the first one will be available at launch and the rest will follow shortly thereafter.  I don't want to sound rude here, but your claim of the world taking 30 minutes to travel is complete bullshit.  I've actually managed to play the game quite a bit(more than 6 hours) and it takes quite a bit longer than 30 minutes to get from one side to the other.  I'd say more like 45-60 minutes.  Again, it's important to realize that this is only half the continent.  This beta has made it difficult to keep up to date on information since we only have the IRC and Twitter feeds to use but for those of us who check in frequently it all makes perfect sense.

As far as the empty world goes, its for the sake of keeping the server up.  When they first introduced looting there were loads of mobs everywhere but the server kept crashing.  They've managed to correct almost all of the issues with the loot, in fact I think they have corrected all of them.  Right now there's an issue with the respawning which should be addressed in today's major patch.

The combat is pretty well done I think.  It will undoubtedly get better as the beta progresses.  It's important to remember that the beta has just started; it's only been a month really.  Most of the time spent working on the game has been to get potential game-breaking issues worked out like server stability, mob ai, looting and crafting.  Every week there is a new patch which fixes several issues and adds new features.

This is the entire reason NDA's exist.  People come out of the game with limited information, due to their lack of research beforehand, and get the impression that the beta strongly resembles the finished product, which it does not, and then attack it.  Hit up the forums, come into IRC every once in a while and follow the twitter feeds.  Mainly, check out the forums and the beta download page.  Those two sources will give you all the information you need to understand exactly what you're getting in this beta and how it will compare to the finished product, assuming all goes as planned for the devs.

Oh I'd also like to mention that the other person wasn't suggesting that they can add the other 90% of the game and have it run smoothly.  If they release the entire thing at once it will crash every 5 seconds due to a new bug unrelated to the last.  By limiting the content we get they can fix it before moving onto the next batch of features and thereby limit the amount of bugs reported at once.  There are only so many devs working at SV, they can't fix every bug related to the game at once.  They can, however, fix most of the bugs related to 10% of the game at once and then move on from there to the next 10%.

And I have beta tested enough games to know the true status of a game, and again I say if you actually believe this game will be released in the next 6 months...your nuts. And if it does, it will be in trouble much like some of the more recent releases.

    image

  • adralaadrala Member Posts: 148

This is your opinion of course dude.

What I dont understand however...if you are such a 1337 beta tester how come you still have problems understanding what NDA stands for...

If you have tested so many betas and you such a pro how come you had no idea what the words alpha and beta stand for oficially?

If you are such an expert in the video game industry how ocme you cant imagine that software can be tested on stages where you desactivate certain features in order to get more stable enviroment and fromt hen you start activating one by one these desactivated features, hunting for bugs?

Anyways..whats the point of this thread?

You can not say when thegame will release unless you work in SV office. For all we know it can never release or it may be released at the end of the month.

    Who really cares?

The important thing is that MO is different. It has a lot of original features and so far it looks very promising. It may lack detail polishing but the basic, the main idea is there and its working. Even if MO just serves to make more companies interested in the sandbox type of games it will be well worthed all the time and 50 bucks you spent.

To be honest, I don't think that it will be released within the next 6 months.  I will say that if it is released within that time period, it will be an acceptable game.  The crafting system already works very well, although it could use a few tweaks.  The combat is fine, again could use a few tweaks.  The gameplay is smooth, the world is immersive.  A lot of the features that aren't currently in the beta have been shown in the videos and are likely to work fairly flawlessly.  Within 6 months these things could be tweaked and improved significantly and make the basis for an incredible game that will grow over time like all MMOs and become truly amazing.  However, I do suspect that the game will be delayed (aren't all MMO's?) and that the devs will have time to get the game in a very solid and polished state when they release it.  The game has already improved hugely since the first day of the beta and will continue to do so throughout the entire CBT.

  • sandslasher4sandslasher4 Member Posts: 12

I think they shouldnt rush this game at all or it might come out a complete mess. I saw the combat and its good and all but alot of work is needed into making it more realistic but it is only beta so i am keeping my hopes up.

The entire team has been working a lot the latest weeks on getting high stability on the server which has been highest priority at this point. There's been a lot of work to do on our release version in the network codes, to get back to the stability level we had in our previous tests. But because of increased number of player support the time to "work" the new code was necessary, I'm happy to see that our current testers understand this and are glad to see that we are almost back to the stability level we need to be able to proceed with implementing our game features. I’m very proud of the team at Star Vault and our moderators, everyone is doing an amazing job even we all have had a stressful period the latest months. Things are now slowly getting into place after all hard work, and we thank you for your great support.

The server is getting more stable now, the latest patch will also solve a lot of the client crashes some testers experience at the moment. After these patches we will start to heavily add our game features into the beta. We will also do our best in communicate with you on what’s going on at Star Vault which always been a high goal for us. I’m going to join the irc mortal online channel today (18:00GMT+2) to answer some questions about Mortal Online with those who are interested, everyone is free to join. For those who doesn’t know how to log in go to http://www.mortalonline.com/ircpage or web irc: irc://irc.privnet.org/mortalonline

Regarding downloading the new client, unfortunately the best solution to get the client fast is via our torrents. We are working on a better patching solution at the moment, and we will make sure we have more seeders for the torrent client this time.

Regarding the forum changes, there have been some misunderstandings from our part. We are looking into what’s best for the forum members at this point to go with, if we need to change forums or just add bug tracking to our current one. Also with little time required from the team, we hope to get to a conclusion as soon as possible, while we go through this, we will have an beta channel for all beta users within a few days, more info on this will be posted here soon. We are also looking for new moderators for the forums.

We are now also expanding our team to help us creating the best possible fantasy sandbox mmorpg!

We have got two new AI programmers to help us get a unique PVE experience, two new 3d artists building on the world. We also got a very experienced lead artist who joined our team today that will help us get higher efficiency in the production phases. We welcome them to the team of Star Vault.

tying that with my current experience (which is great so far). so please, ill say it again, dont post unless you know something rather than just speculating.

ok i can see where boths sides are coming from.

#1: The OP only went over what his experience was like in his first few hours of play and in no way "trolled" anything against MO.

#2: The amount of content in the game is laughable.

#3: Progress in adding content is VERY obvious. They have managed to stablize the server so that i can get on every time i log in now. They have added more npcs and more buildings to the game. Mobs are still scarce and combat is still buggy but as another poster said this is a true beta. Anyone who has purchased the game should be logging in and running around at least once a day and filling out bug reports. Its the only way youre going to help the game. When you sign up for betas in the future i guarantee they wont give a crap that you beta tested aion but when they see MO theyll say you might have actually had ligitimate experience.

and finally #4: it is waaaay too early to judge this game at all.

And I am in block B which was supposed to start on August 3rd however most didnt actually get in until about August 7-8... I get the feeling you believe that I havent actually been in game which is funny... And I also find hilarious that your gaming experience has been "great"... doing what???? Killing pigs? Running around in an enclosed area devoid of any content... If this is what mmo players think is great, were all screwed.

sucks to be you then buddy. i have a fun time testing out the beta with friends and testing out the combat with each other. also exploring has been a blast. people who were in block B could get in if they logged in when they opened the login server 1-2 times an hour (easiest way is to be in their irc). i sure hope people i play with on retail arent people like you or the entire game would be screwed. im sure people will love the chance to be in beta, so why dont you sell your copy and let everyone else enjoy the game?

Also with little time required from the team, we hope to get to a conclusion as soon as possible, while we go through this, we will have an beta channel for all beta users within a few days, more info on this will be posted here soon. We are also looking for new moderators for the forums.

We are now also expanding our team to help us creating the best possible fantasy sandbox mmorpg!

We have got two new AI programmers to help us get a unique PVE experience, two new 3d artists building on the world. We also got a very experienced lead artist who joined our team today that will help us get higher efficiency in the production phases. We welcome them to the team of Star Vault

Good to hear they're not bankrupt and still hiring more people

tying that with my current experience (which is great so far). so please, ill say it again, dont post unless you know something rather than just speculating.

Its funny how you keep referring to the "game" and all the "fun" you are having...because again I say if that is what it takes to make you happy...it is a sad state we are in today in the mmo genre. Well there is always SWTOR to keep hopes alive...

It's a closed beta, bro.  Not an open beta.  You were invited to the CLOSED beta.  Open Betas are sometimes used by companies to persuade people to buy the finished, released product which releases pretty soon after the Open Beta begins.  Closed Beta means that this is the first time they have ever dealt with this many people being online at the same time and becuase of that, they don't want to put in all the content.  They want to push the limits of the server gradually so they can increase the capacity until eventually everything they planned on adding is in.  Trust me when I say that I have been in closed betas that are much worse than what you are describing.

I'm still planning on buying it.

yes because any mmorg is a "game" and are meant to be played for "fun".

so far your failing at trolling. try harder.
