Looking for MMO for young kids (girl)

TimstertooTimstertoo Member Posts: 6

I promised my daugther I'd play one of my games with her tomorrow.

But seeing as I play EVE and am now in the betatest of Fallen Earth I don't think either of those have a lot to offer to her. Neither graphically as well as messing around. Fallen Earth is probably worst in the nightmare department. She'll be 5 in November.

So anyone know of a good game I could get her started on? Probably a bit too young to really get it, and it doesn't have to be a game she can do fully unattended, but she's a smart cookie and as long as I can let her do stuff herself she'll be happy enough.

Need to start training up my own personal little farmer :-)

If it wasn't for physics and law enforcement I'd be unstoppable!

Guild Wars, World of Warcraft, or...... Hello Kitty Online.

Fiesta Online and Maple Story are very cartoony and would probably interest her as well. I'd say your best choices are one of the last three.

"IRL is a pretty upstanding MMO with thousands of classes, a lot of PvP and even some pretty unique emotes and titles you can acquire. Explore that world first, then we'll talk about this virtual one."

I'm just guessing Wizard 101 or Sony's Free Realms.

here's eploration game put out by the BBC. It's fairly easy, with a first person view  as you walk around finding dinosaurs.

    It's allso free.

Lunia is a very cartoonish game with some cool fighting skills and graphics,  it just feels like an arcade game, just mainly using the letter A and S and space to fight, and often characters pop up on the screen to have a conversation which could be entertaining for your daugther.  However I cannot remember if the community was nasty.  Just I know that your daughter could team up with you and play on  private levels with you and not have to worry about the community cussing or talk about things that would seem inappropriate for your daughter at that age.

Good luck on finding a fun game for yourself and your daughter!!!!

I would say free realms or perhaps the hello kitty.  Possibly wizard 101. I mean, it looks like it's for kids but I wonder about how violent it is? OP will have to check out the website.

    oh duh! toontown!

op check this link out: fromthegutter.org/ it lists mmo's for kids and a brief explanation. (lol, despite it being called "from the gutter".)

oh, also webkinz that is for a very young player. www.webkinz.com/us_en/

Child labor is against the law!

I can't think of any MMO that would be easy to understand and enjoy for a 4-5 year old but there are a lot of singleplayer games and computer-based toys that are great for upcoming computer/video game younglings. My little cousins (one is 6 and the other is 10) play with Webkinz. They're stuffed animals that you can plug into a comptuer to play minigames with. My cousins enjoy having to take care of the little things like they are pets (both stuffed toy & digital when plugged into a computer).

I think Free Realms has a similar feature where you can own pet animals that you can take care of. Maybe that could be the next step up for your daughter. It's also a really cute and colorful game that would probably be a lot more fun to watch than something like Eve Online.

    I hope that helps

I guess the perfect fit is Wizard 101,you can play some of the early zones for free, but you cannot advance past that unless you subscribe. The game really is a fit for younger kids, however the quests are extremely boring and basically send you walking all over,if you think your daughter can handle that,it's the game.At least you can try the freebie zones to get a feel for it.

The other choice ,would be FREEREALMS by SOE,although it's not really free either lol,i guess nothing out there is truly free.

As another poster mentioned,Hello kitty, but i'm not sure you could play along lol.,good game for her though.

My little sister is 10 and she has been playing Horse Isle for awhile and she loves it

A friend of hers told her about it so they always get on every other night and play together

Its a 2D game that you can train horses buy new ones, bale hay for money, trade and buy other horses, and she has never complained once about the community... She is definitely entertained by it.  I think my mom pays like 5 bucks a month for her to play.  Its worth checking in to

I would also suggest you give Wizard 101 a try.  You can sign up, create a wizard, and play a couple areas of the starting world for free.

It's bright and colorful -- and features turn-based combat, so fast reflexes aren't required.  NPC dialogue is audible, so she wouldn't need read much to understand what's going on, either.

why don't you buy her a soccer ball or a basketball and let her play outside?

  • DaxamarDaxamar Member UncommonPosts: 593

My grandson loved playing Free Realms with me. While Im not thrilled with it, bein a SOE game, he enjoys it.

Hes 8, and also has a soccer ball and plays with it outside. Not to mention he gets fresh air when he goes to the park, the beach, and the pool.

Well Idk about anyone else here... But I started my video gaming at the wee age of 7-8ish.

This is how it's happened in my fam.

    • When I was under 7 I used to watch and observe my parents playing EQ, UO, Diablo, Rage of Mages, AO, and etc etc.
    • Once I got to about 7 my Dad started letting me play Rage of Mages with him,
    • At 9 I started playing Baldur's Gate.
    • At about 10 I was playing EQ and within a year I was at lvl 40+, grouping and playing just as well as people more than twice my age. My parents besides showing me how the game mechanics worked & setting THE rules (no telling anyone how old I was, no telling them personal info, no staying in groups where people talked with bad words etc etc), never had to help me out with anything in EQ.

And ever since then I've had an unsatisfiable mmo addiction :D

Now my younger 2 sisters are about 6 & 8 right now and they both play games also. Although their gaming interests are very different from mine at their ages and leave much to be desired.... they play those Horse, Pony, Cats & Dogs, and Animal Hospital type things *shivers*. They DO however play Champions of Norrath (a ps2 game) and enjoy it a lot, and dad & mom often play it with them for family time.

But yeah in all it mostly depends on her interest shown, and her overall personality. I'd say biggest deciding factor would be the amount of time she spends watching you play games & asking questions about them or any interest she shows in playing the kind of games Dad likes. If those factors are all rather low she'll probably be more interested in bubbly unicorn type games vs. a hack & slash like Champions of Norrath (or one day even an mmo).

I'd recommend Wizard 101, it's a fun game, and has lots of kids playing, and there is a dual chat system which lets kids use just a basic drop down chat system and adults use a full chat which kids can't see.

Wizards101, Free Realms, and Hello Kitty online would be my choices, and of those, Wizards101 I like best; it's great especially if she likes Harry Potter (Similiar premise).

  • TimstertooTimstertoo Member Posts: 6

Wow thanks again for all the great input!

Hello Kitty Online I tried first but when I finished the registration it said I'll get a mail when the beta starts...

Now I'm trying puzzle pirates see how she likes that. It's a bit hard for here and she'll need to get her head around the puzzles and such but she's happily walking and clicking around now.

If it wasn't for physics and law enforcement I'd be unstoppable!

My daughter is 6.5 and too be honest she doesn't get too much out of Free Realms because there is still too much text. She will probably be able to cope with the game by next year.

We play Moshi Monster which is a reasonable online quiz game where she can buy stuff for her house depending on the number of puzzles she has completed. There is no combat too, which is a benefit for her. She likes this game and it is reasonably educational which is good.

Have you tried Animal Crossing? This game was my daughter's absolute favourite game last year when she was 5. Okay it's on the Wii or DS and not the PC but it is good and also allows players to customise their house and hair etc.

I've let my daughter play some MMOs with me but she gets bored of fighting after 5 minutes. The best thing is if you have a higher level character with plenty of money you can let them kill some low level moobs that won't kill and basically try out changing clothes and weapons for fun. Just allow them to walk around and look at stuff. Still, they are not really used to the genre got a little sad when she wanted to talk to other players and they just ran off. Pet classes are quite fun if you can teach them some basics.

I also found out my daughter quite enjoyed gathering stuff, especially when I told her we could use it to make a new top for her character.

In summary, I still think your daughter is probably too young for MMOs unless she is a great reader. I'd try her with Animal Crossing or any of the obvious Kids games (Dora, Hello Kitty*, Catz etc.)

*I'm thinking of the non MMOs here.

Requirem Bloodymare is also good for small girls.

    ...

    ..

    Just kidding. :P

But Atlantica Online is aiming at a younger audience, with cute deers and heroes wielding guitars and stuff.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

One thing is for sure, we've found a niche here! :-)

Let's all chip in some cash and become developers.
