I wont play, at first atleast cause this game give me every feeling of being a korean grinder, comparable with those horrible f2p games they spew out. Besides Aion is the flavour of the month now, hyped to high heaven. I've learned to never listen to the hype. They are bloody clueless most of the time and the spin the developers put on it, is often outright lies or atleast exaggerated boasts.
It's not a grinder. You don't have to grind at all to level up. Just do quests. Quests usually give more xp than grinding. The developers are fans of WoW and Everquest 1 and 2 so that's the kind of leveling system they aimed for. Trust me, no grind.
aion isnt for me,i will play everquest2 ,i couldnt before, but now soe corrected problem and games works nicelly still need a fast processor but now a day ,everybody can play eq2 .in the past we just couldnt
so far i enjoy the game, but this is an adult game in my view .
- Item collection is sorely lacking overall - PvP over PVE focus is not my fortay - It feels incredibly linear...which is odd, as not many MMOs I've played feel so rigged in progression - FFXIV & Old Republic's storyline's entice me far more...along with a few other aspects of each respective game. Overall it's a good game, but not enough to win me over...especially with the hope of several good titles out next year.
One thing I don't get. You claim Aion feels linear, yet you still claim you want to get TOR? TOR will be way more linear.

I have higher fps in Aion with full details than in EQ2 with minimum. That's one of the reasons I'm quitting EQ2. Aion runs much better on my machine. AMD X2 7850, Radeon HD3870, 4 GB DDR2 800 MHz so my specs are rather good. Unfortunately EQ2's engine is made for higher clock speeds instead of just better architectured CPU.

So what you are saying is that every MMO made has been shallow and uninspired. Hrmm, I think this genre is not for you.
I hate to break this to you, but standards change. Everquest was interesting for it's time because it was still new. Half assed implementations of crap we played nearly a decade ago is not going to impress me, or anyone with half a brain at this point in time. The MMORPG spell is wearing off on a lot of people; even those who got started with WoW. Its time to move forward.
1. Combat chains, not uninspired at all. Surely not the newest thing on the market but it has its moments.
Even Warhammer had combat chains... But at least with warhammer, you could MOVE WHILE USING MELEE ABILITIES.
2. Seems to me the world and lore is rich with its own story.
Sure it has a story, it's quality is what's questionable.
3.Leveling is leveling, obviously you dont like it. (hence, this genre may not be for you)
Out of all current MMOs, WoW is the closest to nailing it. Quick and painless quests with a peppering of innovation and fun mixed in. (Controlling giants, minions, escorts, scripted stories, cutscenes). Actually, Guild Wars might have it down better than WoW, a shame Guild War's combat is so stiff.
4. I love the animations, however I do agree the rooting could possibly be a problem, however, the enemy will also face the same problem.
If the character is a melee character, you're right. As a ranged character, things change substantially. You're in a middle of some long animation, the other guy (whilst taking damage) is setting up on you. Sounds like a recipe for frustration. Between rangers, casters, and tanks that can pull you in; being punished in pvp for using a strong melee ability is going to get annoying for those of you braving the hype train once again.
5. The RVR seems to be about the same as DAOC in a way and in my opinion better.
Unfortunately, I missed the golden age of DAOC. Regardless; all you need to do is take a quick glance to realize how inherently flawed this system is. Spefically, how the top end is handeled and how high end players will simply game the baluar in order the stay at the top.
6. Wont argue that point, I dont like endgame treadmills much either.
The funny thing is that we have disgruntled WoW fans yelling about treadmills ready to hop right into Aion.
I think you just dont see his point. We have had this type of game for over 10 years now. No matter how pretty or different the graphics are, it is still pretty much the same game that is being redone over and over and over again.
Im gonna try to guess how the game will be: The character creation screen lets you create a char and choose from a few different tattoos that you later realize doesnt matter how look because they will be hidden under all kinds of clothes. Also the hair, eyes and bodytype will not matter either because it will either be hidden under your armor or the game doesnt support that close zoom.
After character creation screen you will enter a world that may or may not be pretty and have lag. The first thing you will see is a npc with some kind of obvious "talk to me" sign above his head. He or she will give you a quest that in 9 out of 10 times is to collect a bodypart from a frog, rat, or boar. After that you will encounter thousand other npc's with obvious "talk to me" signs that will lead you trough quest after quest and from one quest hub to another. Level after level you will kill rodens, spiders, bandits and collected thousands of livers, tails, hearts, arrows and you named it until you hit top level typically between 50 and 80.
At that point you will either restart another character and do it all over again, or you will do "end game" stuff. End game stuff is one out of two things: kill people that has not yet killed as many spiders and rats as you have and thus has lower level than you, or do some kind of instance. The instance is allways the same. No matter how many times you kill the boss and his minions he will be there the next time you enter the instance. Over and over and over again.
PVP will be one out of two ways: Either full pvp, wich means you can attack everything everywhere, or you will have to go to a pvp instance. No matter what, the only meaningful reason to pvp will be to kill your opponent. There wont be looting, you wont be fighting over valuable resources and you wont lose a thing, no matter how many times you die.
There will one houndred percent for sure be a auction house in the game. Because the developers just cant think of other better ways for people to sell their overpriced crap. The auction house will have limitations on how many items you can have for auction. Why? because thats how it is..
Crafting: there will be nodes of iron, copper and other metals and wood, wool and flowers spread around the game universe that you will have to gather, then take it into the nearest quest hub, where you will have to stand by the appropiate machine/installation in order to transform your stuff into something else, like weapons and clothes, then you use it or sell it at the auction house. If you dont auction it away you will have to store it in a vault, wich also will be in the game or ill eat my hat..The vault will ofcourse, no matter how little sense it makes have limited space, just to annoy you.
So, you see what he means is that hes played this game for 10 years now, they just changed the graphics.

Just kept the parts of your quote that is not 95%+ accurate in Aion.
Character customization, only tatoos you can pick goes in your face so those are always visible. Hair, if you wanna show off your hair you can do it even with helmet on since you can toggle wether it shows or not. I usually hide helmets myself.
Endgame, besides instances there will be raids which of course is just the same as an instance just with more people.
PVP matters here. Controlling a fortress (which you naturally fight over in large pvp battles) allows you to access some instances. If your faction don't control the fortress you can't do that instance. Correct me if I'm wrong but I also believe that some of the best resources can only be found in these instances or around the fortresses. You can't get to them if your faction don't control the fortress since the barrier around it will zap you to death and you can't attack a fortress whenever you feel for it, it must be opened up for pvp first.
the art direction doesn't interest me. it looks nice enough, but the whole angel wings, high heels and overly-pretty male avatars just turn me off. (no, i'm not really an anime fan.)

Basically pvp is not meaningless...
Unless you only want to PvP. If you don't want to PvE, why bother unlocking PvE instances?

This is marketed as a pvpve game so if you only want pvp don't play it. You should try Darkfall or Mortal Online in that case. Both of which has some pve but generally fully pvp once you hit the cap or skilled up enough.
I am so glad that some people from this thread will not be playing Aion because they are so uninformed about the game and I don't really like to see those kind of people in game, crying allover and don't even want to give it a chance. It's fine really, enjoy your game, while I will enjoy Aion. With each their own.
For some of you who says : Hey, I am a PVE gamer, and Aion lack into this feature so I wont be playing.
Well, here is a Video of some dungeons in 1.5 version of Aion www.youtube.com/watch ( read the comments too ) !
Having said that, I also hate players when they form an opinion based from the CB of Aion.
CB is to test things out not a free trial. Of course there was not much to do since alot of players just leveled their chars without doing partys ( this is IMPORTANT in a MMO ),but you wont see that on live servers. Also , there was no economy in game because they only cared to lvl up and no starting to gather mats, crafting items and so on. Also there was no communication between players since the global chat was turned off.
So, from my point of view, you were missing alot of important things in a Aion while playing CB.
Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy? Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!
I found the game very boring for many reasons. It's the 1st time since... years I won't pay for a new MMORPG. Aion looks like a mix between Wow and Corean F2P MMORPGS. I took the preorder for CBT but won't buy the game. Nothing else to say about this game, 0 interest for me.
There are only two reasons why I might try it out. It's new, and it's unusually polished for a new game. However...
I'm not five years old, or color blind, so the art direction doesn't appeal to me. The extremely linear gameplay does not seem to come with a storyline good enough to justify the linear design. Finally, I've tried EQ2, WOW, Vanguard, AoC, WAR etc, and the amount of enjoyment I get out of such games has gone down from months to days. If Vanguard and EQ2 which are fairly open ended for this kind of game couldn't hold my attentention, there really doesn't seem to be much point in trying Aion.
I played the Open Beta (which, of course was the final product in Asia) and I must say I wasn't impressed. The early levels, the setting, all uninspired garbage. After suffering through 10 levels I get to my REAL class and find that I'm marred with a bunch of abilities that essentially ROOT me for the duration of the animation. Ah, the AOC effect. No thanks - no thanks.
Upon reading further, I laugh at the easily exploitable points system, and the world PVP that will degenerate into a swarm fest where the strong get stronger and the weak can never hope to be on equal footing. In other words ; business as usual in the MMORPG world.
The area design is laughably linear, and the flying gimmick amounts to nothing more than... well a cheap gimmick. Another fun fact is that the two factions in this game not only look similar; but have mirror starting zones. It's always great seeing lazy design work so early in the game... In the end : 1 - Uninspired combat 2 - Generic world and lore 3 - Generic advance mechanism made even more painful by painfully slow leveling pace 4 - Melee abilities that have overly extravagant animations that ROOT you. 5 - Crap RVR system 6 - Gear Treadmill endgame ALA WoW
This game is the definition of a shallow experience who's sole purpose is no different from those who came before them.
How do you know theres a gear treadmill in AION the beta was level capped . From what i saw of the combat it was equal to most other mmos including Warcraft . There was too little time on the beta weekends to really experiance the rvr system . the world and lore are generic but outside of eve and lord of the rings that could be applied to most mmos . I found it to be fun and not too linear at all ( not in the way age of conan was ) . My guess is you play EVE ?
Funny how when a negative is mentioned the true believers say 'you can't tell from Beta', but when a postive is mentioned, it's 'oh, for sure. It's great.'
People will judge the game from whatever experience they have. It's that - or buy it and find out.
The Beta was level capped? So testers didn't get to try end game? Hmmm, sounds familiar.

Forced PVP not into getting ganked

the art direction doesn't interest me. it looks nice enough, but the whole angel wings, high heels and overly-pretty male avatars just turn me off. (no, i'm not really an anime fan.)
I know it was said so many times, but AION is trully just a WOW clone with Asian/Manga theme slapped on it.
Now I played WOW (and LOTRO , and EQ2) and there is really nothing more there for me .. its time to move on to different concepts.
I have really zero interest in this game.
Sure, pal. Everything anyone has ever mentioned as missing from an MMORPG 'will be added later'. It's standard devspeak.
