Should i buy it?

AryslanAryslan Member UncommonPosts: 26

I am interested in the game. The videos i have seen and the overall looks of the game calls me to buy it but i have read tons of people who "trash" about the game.

Before buying i thought it would be wise to ask the people who plays it what does it have.

So whats what you like about the game? Aside of combat what does it offer, social content and professions? What about community and questing system? Are there dungeons/raids? (game has 1 week and i dont expect raids now but do you see them in a future?). I know the game can get repetitive but all the MMOs are that way.

What would you say to recommend this game?

My advice is don't buy it.

Played Beta, and I got to the conclusion that one super hero game is more than enough for the market.

And that game is CoH which I found better than CO

This game would be ok as a F2P, there is no reason to pay for this average product.

I actually like the game, I don't see what the user above has against it. Let me start by saying COH/V was my most played mmo till about last year. I just liked the style and how it was more about being fun then being the "man". Everyone was the man in their own eyes. Now, saying that. I think CO is like coh/v on crack. Everything is bigger, stronger, faster, and the customization is crazy. I've seen a snowboarding(ice flight) shark, I've seen a super-speed wolf(the guy actually looked like a regular badass wolf). I'm enjoying the game immensely and I'm the prototypical ADD gamer. A game never last past a couple weeks for me, but, knowing the dedication Cryptic puts into their work(primarily COH in the past) you just know this game is gonna be something great, even if you don't dig it right now. I enjoy playing it, and cannot wait to see where it will go. Considering they have an actual "history" to work with as opposed to just making shit up(COH).

I can definately see that the game isn't everyones cup of tea, and it may not be yours, but, from who I've spoken to and in my personal opinion. Its badass and most of the community enjoys it. I've been playing a little bit more lately and I would recommend at least giving it a shot. If you don't like it, ditch it. If you do, you've just found a great game that will be maintained thoroughly(Like COH's maintenance over the years)

I've been playing the game since closed beta.  The game is fun, but there are issues.

    1) Teaming can be difficult.  Sharing missions at times seems to be bugged.  There is no "cross-shard" chat, so you may have to shard hop if you need a team for a particular mission.

    2) The shards only hold up to 100 people (it was 200 in OB, don't know what happened)  It gives the sense that you are kinda alone at times, because the zones are quite large.  It doesn't mean that there is no one playing it, just wish they would increase the amount of peeps per shard.

    3) There are still some mission bugs that are rather annoying.  I'm sure this will get fixed soon.

    4) They recently nerfed the xp.  So, the amount of quests you get seem to drop dramatically in your 30's.  I'm usually stuck doing quests 2 levels higher than I am.  Again, I'm sure this will be corrected.

    5) The missions are the same old, same old.

    The good things....

    1) Character creation is a blast.  A lot of options.

    2) The graphics are nice (this is subjective of course)  The cell shading can be turned off (thank goodness).  The colors are bright and vivid (very comic book-like)

    3) Crafting is interesting.  Its in no way unique, but there are some interesting things you can make.

    4) Everyone seems to be helpful in game.  I think its a pretty nice community so far.

    5) The action is pretty fast paced.  I went Supernatural, with a few powers from other sets, and fights get pretty interesting.

    6)  The nemesis creation is a hoot.  It's pretty fun.  The ambushes and tracking your nemesis down.  Pretty nice so far.

    7)  The zones are quite large.  Quite a lot to explore.

    8) If your a movie buff, you'll recognize a lot of referencing.  Some find it a turn off, I find it fun.

    9) Some instance missions are quite fun.  Like the Stronghold mission.  I enjoyed it a lot.

    10) Classless system.  You can pick powers from any powerset.  It was very interesting in my first team instance when no one had a particular role, but somehow, it didn't seem to matter.  Things went rather smoothly.

I don't know much about the PVP, haven't done much there.  The game is holding my interest for the moment.  I'm kinda glad I didn't get the lifetime sub.  I don't see myself playing it long term.  I'm interested to see where they take the game.  Hope this helps a bit in making your decision.

I personally wouldn't buy it , the powersets and gameplay are all similar which turns me off , i enjoyed the first 10 lvls but then i realised that all ranged powers are the same just different looks of attacks , same for meele , all u do is press the energy builder 5 times and then an other attack , that's it . I don't think it's worth of buying , maybe wait for a trial:P u will see what i mean

I find the game to be fun.

However, if you like being able to gank lowbie players in PvP everywhere the game isn't for you. I think that is why you see people are complaining about it. Why? because if you are here having fun you can't be getting ganked on the game they approve of.

i have tried a number of different power sets and while there are some similar functions, aka killing mobs. How you do is different.

If you have found the videos to be interesting, then you will more then likely have a good time.

This is it. Im not the typical ganker, i enjoy a good combat between equal players, thats where the skill and the lessons are shown and learned.

I have ordered the game, lets see if arrives tomorrow and theres no problem with the launcher.

Your whole post is slanted and false.  You never got past lvl 10.  If you would actually looked and compared powers, you would have realized that  every attack is NOT the same.  Some are charged, some are not.  Some have little secondary debuffs added to them (majority of lightening attacks arc to other npcs, majority of dark powers cause fear, etc...) while others are more focused on dps.  You were just impatient and failed at actually playing the game.

Easy people... dont want this thread to become a witchcraft slaughter.

The thing is that what you posted in this thread has convinced me to play it.

Was just a thread to know what things CO has to offer.

There are opinions, outdated opinions and biased opinions. Its okay if you want to discuss about it but in a good way.

Unless the company pulls an NGE, beta is pretty much the live game.  People complaining about broken items that were in beta is outdated.  People complaining about gameplay, the game itself, is still pretty valid.

I am not putting you down in any way but you must not have played past 8th level or were not really paying attention to the powers. Even the energy builders have different and unique side effects. While some powers are similar to start with most have something that sets them apart from one another.

Here are  examples of the basic ranged attacks after your energy builder. This is one of the first two powers you get when you first start if you take a basic power set.  This do not inlcude the advantages that you can pick for each power later that make it more unique and different. Even  two of the same power set type might have differences in the powers due to ranks and advantages.

Shadow blast:  Bolt that has a chance to cause a fear effect. Build up power to make it more forceful or tap for a quick heavier hit than energy builder attack.

Chain Lighting: a weaker bolt than shadow blast but has the ability to ARC (a percentage chance on each use) and hit mutliple targets

Force Blast: A charged bolt attack like shadow blast but can cause knockback instead of fear, sending enemies flying and knocking them down.

Ice blast: A bolt that can cause CHILL that will slow a targets movements and attacks,.

These are the basic ranged attack outside of your energy builder that you first get. Again, even without applying ranks and advantages, each one is quite different in effect.

I could do the same for the Martials/ Melee type of attacks.  There is actually more depth to the powers than some might realize.

Aww man, you're ruining all the fun. I was hoping we could hang you up by your toenails once you came back here and said something positive about the game.

Seriously though, you won't regret it. The first few days may be a bit of a brain burner as you learn all about the game, but its a blast to play and is deep enough to keep you thinking about it when you're not playing.

It really depends why he didn't like it. If he didn't like it because the powers weren't balanced, well they are balanced much better now. If he didn't like it because it was too easy, its harder now. If he didn't like it because there is no open world PvP, well suck it up, this isn't WAR.

I'd really like to know what the people calling it 'average' are playing. CO seems quite a bit more exciting and prettier than any MMO I have played and I've been playing these games since Meridian 59. CO isn't mind blowingly awesome, but its a baby step toward the next generation of MMOG's.

Dont listen to people like this. The game is great sure its lacking a few things and a few things need fix, but over all the game is super fun.

Should you buy this game?  Probably.  But go into it thinking that you will be purchasing a game similar to a single player game.. where you may only get a months worth of content out of it before you feel it getting stale. (not saying it is a single player game, just using it as an analogy).

The game is good.. but the content is short lived.. a month is more then enough time to see the entire game.  Its still a fairly decent game, worth the money over single player games with less than 100 hours of gameplay.

  • qbangy32qbangy32 Member Posts: 681

It's alot of fun so far and as someone who also played CoH I have found that CO has definately moved the goal posts way past what CoH is currently capable of, it's a far superior product by far.

Admittedly there are bugs, heh tell me an MMO or even stand alone game that doesn't require fixing, but fortunately for me they haven't spoiled my gaming experience.

I think the graphics are excellent, not realistic and not overly cartoony but just right for the genre, but graphics just list anything else is down to personal taste.

It's definately worth spending some money on, even if you just play for the month it's still going to give you the same amount of enjoyment if you where to buy a stand alone game, with more replayability later on when they patch new content.

I'm not going to tell you what to do with your money. I'm going to tell you to wait until you can try it for free. Lately most mmorpgs are releasing free trials sooner than expected.

Keep in mind that Cryptic is charging your $15 a month plus they will be charging you micro-transactions for additional equipment and costumes.  I only found this out recently and was very disappointed that Cryptic would go down this path.

IMO, you should either make it F2P with micro-transactions or charge a flat fee of $15 a month, but to do both is a bit greedy.

I love uneducated people.  The store contains Vanity Pets, it will later contain costum peices, and accountment management options like name changes etc.   None of which are necessary or affect game play in anyway.  All the major MMOS have something like it.  WoW has it in its card games (random hard to get vanity pets n vanity mounts), faction changes, name changes, etc.  Everquest 2 has xp potions etc.  Both charge monthly subs.

You cannot buy an 'equiptment' that affect game play.   Even if you could it would NOT be better than the fact crafting allows you to crafting blues and purples by lvl 20 which are better than most drops.

Well you better go to school my friend as Cryptic has already stated in interviews that game affecting items will be for sale in the store...  They just haven't gotten around to putting them in yet.

And because of micro transactions I don't play EQ 2 or WOW anymore...  Nor will I play D&D as they have moved to that model also.

Yes, anything game changing will be available in game.  That doesn't mean they won't sell game changing items, just items with stats will be available in game.  Still making it game changing... just not enough to to where players that don't want to spend the money can't get the items also.

So who's right on this one?  ....... both of you.... or none of you..... actually.. I'm pretty sure just me...
