"Darkfall: The crappy raft that keeps you afloat you until the rescue boat comes."

C'mon, admit it. Most of you are only playing Darkfall because it's the only FFA PvP MMO (not sandbox) out there, besides EVE, which is probably too boring for you because it's a thinking man's game. If you had a chocolate bar, you'd be happy; but if you had a chocolate bar + caramel, or peanut butter, or <insert what you like here>, you'd be even happier.

Notice I didn't mention MO anywhere in my phrase. MO could very well be it, but so could Earthrise (we'll see). ER looks much better on paper, but it doesn't have much substance yet. It's not near release, though.

Really, I'll never get tired of pointing out this very basic fact, since apparently people never stop trying to sell it as such.

    DFO is not a sandbox.

Well, those activities are presen in mostly any games. Let's do a game:

I'll use Vanguard, since I played it very recently. But you could substitute it for pretty much anything, from DFO to Hello Kitty Online:

If you wanna change continents, you can.

If you wanna choose your race, sure!

If you wanna choose among dozens of different mounts, right!

If you want to join PVP, there you go!

If you want to live your life doing just Diplomacy, there you have it.

If all you want is crafting, feel at home.

If you want to raid, go raid!

If you want to raid with a small amount of people, you go, girl!

If you want to build a house from scratch, you can do it!

If you just want to buy all house materials to build yours, because you don't have patience to do it from scratch, open the wallet!

If you want to join a clan, you join a clan.

If you want to dive and hunt for underwater beasts, just hold your breath!

Of you decide to just live off the market, buying low and selling high, just do it.

If you want to solo your soul off, go for it!

If you want to build a small boat, build it.

If you want to build a medium boat, better have that wood ready!

If you want to build a humongous boat, that'll cost ya, but sure!

If you just want to harvest, harvest away!

If quests are your thing, you are lucky!

If you are the grind type, no problems here, too!

Want to fly? Sure, if you have what it takes to tame the appropriate beast.

You want to be the oddball and use less than optimal stuff? Okie dokie.

You just want to talk and have fun on the many different chats, type!

I could go on and on, and on. In fact, you can do this with pretty much anything. It's a nice exercise for writers, believe me.

DFO has combat. Good combat, bad combat, that's personal. I won't go there anymore. But that's it. Social options are very limited, there is no support for player=created events or content, economy is abysmal, crafting is basic. Customization is minimal, individuality is non-existent, very little to do outside go for PVP. Politics are limited (because the game has no formal support for it).

You can call anything by any name you want. But, when you actually get to do it, well..

I didnt read, but i see the idea you try to bring. You become more wack and more wack every day seriously. Stop posting.

The guy above said Sandbox and Agon.

You say vanguar that is usually theme park, a sandbox game.

In Df, you do all those stuff in only 1 sandbox and thats it. There is no multiple sandbox.

In the vanguar comparason, you say that we can create a character. You failed. we cannot create a character on the sandbox i believe. You do it after you login, before you get on the sandbox.

Can you do all kind of stuff in 1 sandbox in vanguar? Dont you need to go trough a login screen or something before you can do other stuff or something like that before you get transfered onto an other sandbox??

Go beyond the obvious, there lies what I meant: DFO is not a sandbox. The example is purely incidental, could be any other game under the sun. Only difference that stands out in DFO's favor is that it's full loot. But even that's not exclusive to it. Other games do it much better, in fact.

Full loot, non-instanced PVP is not sandbox.

There isn't  a game require social skills then DF, i have never talked to other players in an MMORPG before like i do in DarkFall. It was not required cause unlike DarkFall other MMORPG's seems like solo games, u use your real-time voice comm  in DarkFall for socializing and politics. There is no mechanic to hinder you in your agreements with other players. Nothing can beat real communication via real voice IMO in socializuing and diplomatic aspects. Instead of click some butttons, you talk to your allies and do a "shake hands" with real communication.

Countless times i saw rules being enforced or conflicts being resolved  not by a game mechanic but instead by real communication between players who talked in voice chat together or their supreme generals .

Play some EVE. Then you'll see real politics in a game. I don't want "buttons". I want a vibrant, varied world where combat is just part of the picture (a big part, of course).

You had better politics in many games. UO, DAoC, etc. Politics is one thing, gamer interaction is another. The first is rare and very exciting. The last happens in any MMO, of any flavor. I remember reading and taking part of Hyperion's meeting and I was:

"Is this for real? That's it? Attack here, defend there?"

Experiences do vary, I'm well aware of that. I just question claims that "DFO politics is the best, ever, anywhere. It's so complex, and layered. Amazing!". These exaggerations must be challenged, I think.

Sandbox containes the elements of a seamless world and the freedom to progress your char without class limitations and or player levels  and like you want. Darkfall meets both requirements.

Not any of other games have seamless and not instanced world and the most restrict access to content through general player classes and or levels.

Darkfall could  even have no full loot PvP ruleset  and still would be a sandbox.
