Aion may be up to date, yes for sure, but it isn't next-gen at all. I suppose, it is a good MMO to play is you wanna be up to date, but if you're looking for something new and innovative, Aion isn't it.

    Look more opinions.

Let me guess, the 'graphics' aren't up to your expectations? Or is it too 'linear' for you? Or maybe it has too much 'grind' for you? Oh wait I know, it doesn't have some 'new' thing that will impress you? I'm so happy people with these problems will NOT be playing Aion.

Actually, I do have Aion preordered and will be playing on the Siel Server on September 20th, and I'll be participating in the pre-select on September 18th as well.

However, I just want to be honest, I want to point out Aion's problems for those who are clueless about Aion's many issues. In addition, I'm one of the few who can get past Aion's many issues such as the "not next-gen thing." Isn't much of an issue since Final Fantasy XIV and Star Wars: TOR will definitely be next gen.

Aion is kinda that filler MMO that you play to pass time for the next-gen MMOs. And for an up-to-date MMO like Aion, I'm at least impressed, I'll probably be playing Aion for the next 5 to 7 years until Lineage III comes out.

So it stands to reason that if make a poll in a Aion Forum you will get a lot of people saying yes I'm playing...

Well, just look at the hype in the Aion section of the Game List forums. Everyone is loving Aion, well most of them, the first 20 levels is a bit of an illusion, most of the will quit, but people like me try to let everyone know the truth about Aion.

Now, if you're like me and you can get past the truth, or Aion's issues, you might end up playing the game for several years.

Not sure I share your setiment that the first 20 levels is a bit of an illusion, and that most will quit because of that. Personally I found I liked the game more once I got past level 20. And as for its shortfalls...maybe I have different needs in an MMO than you do. I look for content, not just in graphics, but in all aspects of the game. Having an in game memo pad, being able to mark and link map locations, a link option for grouping, xp from crafting, world PvP (not just arena/BG/Scenaerio style). Not anyone of them is smack you in the face revolutionary content, but having so many small things all in one game is in my opinion.

    What is Next Gen?

How do you know SW:TOR and FFXIV will be next gen?

SW:TOR because they fully voice over all the quests and NPC's?  EverQuest 2 has a lot of that too. Not completely. But a lot. And that game is already over 5 years old.

FFXIV because of better graphics?  As that's the only difference so far I've seen. Lot of the gameplay and contents seem pretty much a rehash of FFXI.

I also remember last year people raving about how Warhammer Online with it's Public Quest was soooo Next Gen!

Well... in the end these PQ's were just boring as hell. Same ol' Same ol' when you leveled up through the zones.

Seriously, people are swinging left and right with the term Next Gen... and yet I think pretty much no one knows what it actually means or what they think it means.... or more importantly.... people just don't know what they want anymore!

    Cheers

True, I'm not necessarily sure what next-gen truly means. But, in terms of graphics, Age of Conan's graphics were next-gen. I suppose that an most MMOs that have been released have consisted of one Next-Gen concept. Aion's is PvPvE, never been instilled in an MMO before.

Warhammer Online's public quest were in fact next-gen, but the MMO as a whole was not...the combat was like WoWs and therefore...I suppose people say, nothing new because of it.

All in All, the concept next-gen is a game that will keep you entertained for a bit longer.

Ah, sorry, you're right, Patch 1.5 did wonders for Aion past level 20. I was referring to Patch 1.2 which was released in Aion China's retail.

  • LordDevilLordDevil Member UncommonPosts: 253

Aion was already great in 1.0 (had enough of content in korea) but got even greater now with 1.5 :) Simply one of the best upcoming games - can't wait for the 20. ^^

And yeah I agree Level 1-25 is not nearly as f un as it gets after those levels... rift pvp in groups is one of the most fun things to recover from instancing/xping/questing in Aion...

    Currently playing: Archeage
    Waiting for: Black Desert

    Yes, I will.

I have played closed beta and open beta and there's still so much to discover that this game has my attention. To all those people that find it a boring grindfest and a wow-copy.  Don't play mmorpg's if you don't like the genre. I don't play fps, because I hate the kind of games. Aion is a smooth, nice looking MMO as it should be in my opinion. And I love MMO's!

  • dreldrel Member Posts: 918

I like the game. Best thing that's out there ATM.

I hope it does not take Lineage 3 that long to come out. Its supposed to be revealed in 2011 so I am thinking 2012.

    I'll be playing.

I enjoyed the closed beta, the open beta and the opportunity to play something different.

  • RequiamerRequiamer Member Posts: 2,034

I'll play at release, now will i play in a long run, i'll have to see how it goes at lv 30/50, and also see how they made the game evolve with the patches.

  • SpankthetoadSpankthetoad Member UncommonPosts: 83

I will be playing it.  It does sound like a solid game as far as gameplay goes.  I must say i do not do well in PVP and i am sure i will be dead meat along the way lol.  But i do like the idea of having to group up to play this game as i really like to play the roll of healer and look forward to it.  On a passing note Tanks are my best friend lol.

Yes, I have the collectors edition ordered.  To me with what I have seen and done within the beta's, this is the MMO that will keep me buy for quite a while.  And I'm really looking forward to the full game to start progressing in.

    Momo sucks, I have proof.

  • KyutaSyukoKyutaSyuko Member UncommonPosts: 288

Yes I'll be playing it while wishing I had a computer that could actually run it the way it should.  What I got now is ok for solo PvE, but any large scale stuff and it dies :(

After playing 3 years of WOW and 2 months of LOTRO, I wanted to check this game also ... Good advertisement made for the game ....

I installed, played for 2 hours or so then deleted the game ... Its definitely not true to analyze a game only after 2 hours of playing but ....

When I see a game like this, the levelling, gaining xp (maybe double xp if u rest a while like others I dont know if this game have it also lol), questing system, tracking quests, going a point on a big map ... Oh If I were younger and not played games before like diablo, wow, everquest, ultima and so maybe I had chance to play this game and try enjoy ... But these types of games made and still these games are the market leaders lol ... A few stylish attack moves or new sound effects or even better graphics not gonna made ppl to change the game they are playing ... Some ppl ofc gonna change for better graphics or for cute lady characters lol ... But most probably they gonna change AION for another similar game with better graphics later ...

I not gonna play AION for sure :)

Still debating on whether to play or not. I played a great deal during CB and when OB came around I had no desire to re-level a toon through the same old thing. I am wondering if I want to do that on release too.

Undecided but I did very much enjoy the game during CB.

Well, i must say that i had always a very bad feeling about this game, which is why i never tried the CBs (while i believe i beta tested every damn game i played since EQ1 back in 98), my biggest turndown being Lineage II of where i spent closely one year grinding my fingers off (yeah i was a student back then so yeah i had time to grind for 10+ hours a day, if not 15).

Seeing many people fighting objectively for the game, and giving interesting comments on gameplay and how this game was different than L2, i gave a go to the Open Beta (thx some nordic site for a freebie beta key). And i must say that the gameplay, the lore, the dialogues and the quests were quite funny and interesting, maybe not as funny as EQ2 or some in GW but much better than anything i've seen in WAR/AOC/DAOC or whatever (and no, i didn't play wow besides a quick solo to lvl 40, was probably the most boring game i ever played, and i believe i did all of em since UO, well for the major ones at least, ok, besides AC1).

+ factor is that the wife's totally hooked to it, created 5 characters and is crazy bout her Chanter.

So yeah, i'm going to play, will definitely not buy the CE, cuz i find it worthless but at least the game (2 copies via DD prolly).

Only question is : Wth to do with the Chanter Oo ?

    1) Glad / Warlord (they were gimped in high end L2, but again it's a diff game so i dunno)

    2) Ranger ? (I'm a bow class freak but well for duoing...) or Sorc ?

    3) Get real and do a real tank.

If anybody has a good experience on this, could u plz send me your advice by PM ? Cuz i really don't have the time unfortunately to look deeply into things.

Out of the subject, i also started CO which is quite a refreshing experience, even if it's totally unbalanced for PVP (i mean u either go for munitions/archery/regen/TP combo or go for a healer who flies) at lower lvls, gets better later on tho.

Anyway thx to the folks here who had real arguments for AION, i would definitely never have put my nose in it otherwise.

For once i want to go to max level, based on the beta's so far, it gone from good to great for me, doing the CB.

Dident play the OB, im waiting for the EA to take action, i sure will play this game till the end, and not quit like i did half way in AoC and War, I hope that aion brings some of the first feelings i got when i played Lineage 2.

tried it on onpen beta and realy liked it , but i dont think i'll play it at the release because i want to see how it will evolve , and because i wont have much time with school going on

  • USFPuttyUSFPutty Member Posts: 56

Nope.  Already did a thread on why I think it's a generally boring and uninspired game, so no need to repeat here.  I'll be in Fallen Earth mostly for at least the next few months.
