What can I say? Has any of you geniuses considered that perhaps not everyone that is going to play Aion after release reads this forum (or even the Aion source forum for that matter) and that all they will see are the french, the english and the german servers and make their choice accordingly?
p.s. I would, however, love to know where the people go that play to ruin my day because I'd like them to be as far away from me as possible (preferably in an other universe)
Lets see.. the purpose of this thread is not to gather people of those communities in one or another server. It's just to know where those communities are deciding to go, so 1) If you belong to one of those communities you will know where to find fellow people 2) If you for any reason don't like a community you can avoid that server. Less conflicts. All happy.
Actually you effectively reduced the number of english servers to two with one being an "unofficial rp server" so no no one's happy except for a few people who'll have managed to hijack a server for their own and think it'll give them the right to terrorize anyone that don't fit their profile.
one more lil oversight in this whole sorry affair is the fact that NC-soft has announced to want to maintain balance between Elyos and Asmo an other thing you'll be sabotaging by your little territorial struggle...
less conflicts? you've only made it worse!
edit: and in the likely event you're too damn stupid to understand what I mean by worse: Officially it's an english server people who never bother with forums and just want to play the game will go by that. "Unofficially" it's the spanish server.
Both of these groups will think it's their server, in realy life we call that a war...
mind you only one of them is right and guess what, it not the spanish....

I dont know why your getting so worked up over this. I played on Castor during OB and it was a splt chat between French/English with half the people not knowing what the other lot were saying in general chat.
Id rather avoid that if its ok with you ?
you are wrong there... I am french I know what english speakers are saying... BUt they don't know what I am saying

I for one don't have a problem with playing with anyone, but if people are going to be only wanting to deal/play with their kind why not make a separate chat channel, and make it known that's where you go if you want to play with that certain group of people. NCSoft is suggesting that in the article with the server list and to me it seems like a decent idea. I really don't see why people can't get along.

Maybe, but it doesnt' have anything to do with my thread. It's like blaming a reporter that explains two countries are rearming.
mind you only one of them is right and guess what, it not the spanish....
I'm catalan, so my country is inside Spain, I speak spanish like my mother tongue, and as I said, most probably they will go to Castor, asi is being said in the main spanish videogame website forums www.meristation.com and in a thread in the Aion beta forums.

Lost? Why I'm perfectly happy where I am thank you so very much.
But seriously if you think I'm wrong please explain to me why this is the case because frankly I can't see how you could enforce your "unofficial servers" when everyone who logs in will see only the official ones except by sheer numbers resulting in bullying those who will not or cannot conform to your unofficial standards.

I replied to you just above, gues you were editing your post.
How on earth can you think I'm trying to "enforce" anything? Can't you read at all???????
The biggest problem isn't people speaking other languages in general chat. It is all the stupid and rude comments from the English speakers about it and the wars that start as a result and this has already happened in the Open Beta and was very annoying to the point I filtered out virtually everyone which is not a way to foster a community spirit.
If someone only speaks one language then it makes sense they want to chat with people in their language so they are going to naturally segregate themselves. If they want to do it via unofficial "let's all play on this server" method of if the company wants to designate servers as being the place to go if you want to speak in a specific language then fine. But either way no one should be made to feel unwelcome simply because they choose not to speak or use a specific language.

You may not want to enforce anything but the result of a large community of spanish speaking players may, and probably will, be a lot of spanish chatter in the chat channels of one of the official english servers. Other players, who as mentioned several times before, will go by the official designation will roll a character only to be confronted by a community they cannot understand and that is unwilling or unably to use the official server language. These people, who rightfully asume that the server they chose is an english server will now have to decide wether to stay and be seriously hampered by the fact that they can't understand their team mates or leave and reroll on an other server.
Honestly I'm not sure if this whole mess could have been avoided but it might create a problem.
Mind you if, as suggested earlier in this thread the spanish, and other language communities, create their own channel the problem might not be all that obvious (untill you try to team).
What bothers me most about all of this is that servers that are, as far as NC-Soft is concerned and according to the server selection, english will become inaccessable for english speaking players due to large groups of non-english players communicating in their own language feeling justified by the fact that someone told them they're on the "unofficial spanish/romanian/whatever server" . Whether you want a territorial struggle or not that is what this will boil down to and whether or not you organized this or not you were the one instigating it here on MMORPG.com, and in doing so you may have given others ideas that have aggravated the problem.

Sadly that's not the issue. If I were to team with a spanish or romanian player how would we communicate? I could speak dutch and they'd speak spanish or romanian would that work? English as a lingua franca would work but only if both parties speak it if not then there is a problem. It's not a question of wanting to make people feel unwelcome it's about being to interact with people and as I've mentioned before english speakers will end up on the "unofficial" servers will they be able to communicate with others on their server? Will they be a minority? Will they be forced to reroll on a different server?
What's more these "unofficial servers" will have an effect across all servers. Speak spanish on the "unofficial romanian server", you might be told to go to the "unofficial spanish server" etc.
As for those that choose not to speak english on an english server well....you mentioned community spirit? Setting yourself apart from everyone else through language seems to me to be seriously lacking in said spirit.

Well this is one of the reasons of this thread precisely. Now I know which servers to avoid if I don't want to deal with the spanish and russian community for instance.
Honestly I'm not sure if this whole mess could have been avoided but it might create a problem. Of course it is a problem, haven't you been in any server that was the unofficial server for a language community? It's hell. And I didn't write any thread at that time in any forum to know what one that was. Mind you if, as suggested earlier in this thread the spanish, and other language communities, create their own channel the problem might not be all that obvious (untill you try to team). Sure, but they don't do that.

Are you serious? This thread has around 1000 views, that would mean around 500 different people maybe, probably less... of... 300.000 players? Do you really think this will make any difference? Which was your argument in your first message by the way. Specially considering that this thread is only showing decisions already taken? FFS
edit: And, if you really believe those absurd theories stop bumping the thread, it was in third page already.
It's not this specific thread that will create problems, it's the many threads exactly like this one that do. Some make a thread like this to gather likeminded people on certain servers, others make threads like this thinking they are just informing. Yet all these threads have the same effect: likeminded people will flock together. On first sight such a thing is not a bad thing untill you realise that it means that all those likeminded players won't use english in the public channels on official english servers. This results in frustrated english speaking players that suddenly are excluded out of the public chat because they can't understand half of it and get attacked when they ask for english to be used in those channels.
Like I mentioned before, we are all like sheep, we may fight it most of the time, but more often than not we react like sheep before we realise it. You go where you think likeminded players will go and where do you get this knowledge? Yup, from threads like this.
It doesn't matter if the intentions of the makers of these kind of threads are all good, the results are anything but good.
Some will say that there are players that don't speak english and don't have their own languege servers, but I ask those players this: why play a game in a language you do not understand in the first place? All quests are in english, all gearnames, stats help etc is in english. If you play it to have fun and learn a new language, more power to you. Otherwise, it may be wise to rethink your decision to play this game.

Sorry but no. To give an example I know well, spaniards are discussing which one will be their unofficial server for months. There you have the start of the conflict. They didn't read this thread, because it wasn't created yet. It couldn't exist, since this thread only shows their decision, which wasn't yet taken.
And now, do you think any spaniard have skipped the spanish forums during all these months and read this forum and read this thread and say "mira que bien ahora ya se en qué servidor jugar" ("look this is great now I know what server to play in") and then start a character in Castor? No. I don't think this has happened even to one single spanish guy. They just read their own forums in spanish.
Look somewhere else to blame for the conflict. This thread if anything will help many people to avoid the situation to be in a server with constant spanish or russian chatting. Nothing more.

Please read my post again, I didn't say that this thread had such a huge effect I said that all these threads combined, so also those old ones you are referring to, all those combined create this shit.

What all this threads combined? I never seen a thread like this one. Can you provide a link?
But I have certainly seen threads of peole asking what will be their unofficial server. You two are making zero sense. But you are bumping the thread which is good.

All threads about assigning unofficial servers, be it by presenting it as a "result" or creating one to assign unofficial servers, they all end up with the same result. The idea behind why to make the thread may differ, the effect however does not.

So now it is only faith that the server I go will speak english...spatalos (yes right... overpopulated server) and a rp server are out of the question.

one more lil oversight in this whole sorry affair is the fact that NC-soft has announced to want to maintain balance between Elyos and Asmo an other thing you'll be sabotaging by your little territorial struggle...
less conflicts? you've only made it worse!
edit: and in the likely event you're too damn stupid to understand what I mean by worse: Officially it's an english server people who never bother with forums and just want to play the game will go by that.

And this is what makes you use french in the general chat, to feel that power.
Lets see.. the purpose of this thread is not to gather people of those communities in one or another server. It's just to know where those communities are deciding to go, so 1) If you belong to one of those communities you will know where to find fellow people 2) If you for any reason don't like a community you can avoid that server. Less conflicts. All happy.

He is correct though. You may not like it, but all this nonsense only makes things worse. Can't stop it though, we are all like sheep, we follow the masses often before we realise that we are doing it. By the time we find out most of us prefer to shout at others than to admit our own mistakes.

I have reduced nothing. I'm just saying what communities have already decided to do.

Setting yourself apart from everyone else through language seems to me to be seriously lacking in said spirit.
edit: And, if you really believe those absurd theories stop bumping the thread, it was in third page already.

Now i'd just repeat myself so I will leave it here.

Now you can go complain directly to NCsoft:
