Ofcourse if any of you have class specific questions your welcome to post them here as well. "More Details on Preselection

September 14, 2009 1:56 PM

Aion's release is right around the corner, and our anticipation is running high! The beards and hairstyles of the character creator are groomed and lined up, jostling against each other in eagerness to be picked for your characters in this coming weekend's Preselection and Head Start Programs.

Preselection is a benefit available to anyone who preordered Aion. If you are not sure whether or not you are eligible, simply log in to your NCsoft Master Account to verify that your game account is listed and your account type is not designated as "Beta".

Starting 12:00 p.m. PDT (more) on September 18, 2009, eligible players will be able to start their game clients and log in to create a total of two characters ahead of everyone else. You can name and create these two characters through the standard character creator and be ready to play with these characters right when the game Head Start Program begins (but not beforehand). Preselection will end 9:00 a.m. PDT on September 20, 2009 (more).

Don't miss this great opportunity to claim your character's name before anyone else does. It isn't too late to preorder, even if you have been holding out. "

Alot of players will start with ranger. As they play through and find out how difficult the class is to play and level they will reroll.

You may be right, the ranger is the more difficult class of all possible choices. I liked its difficulty personaly, It reminded me of a mix between a wow hunter and a mage without a pet. Ofcourse I know they have traps as well, I am not a fan that their traps costs reagents though, its one of my gripes with the game. I also wished they would remove the requirement of arrows, or at least basic arrows.

I can't wait to see all the Ranger "lfg" in chat. It's gonna be funny, and sad.

They can adjust a game all day, but they can't help the issue between the keyboard and the chair.
Played: UO, DAoC, AC, WoW, EVE, TR, WAR, Aion, Rift, SWTOR, GW2, TSW, ESO, Elite:D

I'm gonna role ranger so that I can enjoy endgame and master the elegance of the class (one character only, so I hope I don't grow out of this class)...take it slow and steady, not gonna zoom to level cap...etc... its the journey not the destination. =)

I really wanted to make a sorcerer however I may end up with a Spirit Master. I dont want to start out as 1 of the most popular classes in the game. Sorcerers clerics and rangers seem to be the most popular so far...im surprised sins and gladiators arent getting more love.

Its hard for rangers for the first 16 to 18 levels, then gets easier.  If they get to lvl 20, they will be proud of themselves.  Sorcerers, on the other hand, are easy until lvl 18 to 21, then get harder.  I'm not sure it'll be the rangers that end up quitting a class in droves.

Sorcerer, yet I never play sorcerers in any MMORPG's. I found it very fun and easy to solo through the beginning levels. I'm not too worried about PvP (1 vs 1) since this game is more focused on GvG (Group vs Group) so I can just hide in the back and Pew Pew xD

I will also roll a Chanter because they are just badass.

I'm rolling both a chanter and an assassin, but I can't choose which will be my main.

Being a fortunate Chicagoan (we always get neglected in server selection!) I think I'll go with an East coast server.

Rangers. I always go for the physical ranged class or whatever you may want to call it as long as it uses bows, crossbows, guns, or as close as it gets.

Found it to be actually a challenging leveling curve without getting too grindish and also being a fun experience, it's definitely a good change of pace, from the one-hit-fest Striker (RF Online), the Ranger (Guild Wars) and the infamous Hunter (WoW). Played with one up to level 28 in CB.

Based on this poll and polls elsewhere, it seems many people are going with the classes they perceive to be over-powered, or at least very capable, in PvP.

It's not reflected in this poll, but in addition to Chanters, Clerics are polling very high in some surveys as well.

The problem with so many healer classes is that you know that most of these people aren't going to want to play the group healer role, taking a healing class more for personal survivability. Good healers will have a lot of opportunity to establish themselves as "real healers". A lot of pugs are going to have problems, though, with a lot of "I'm not a healer, I'm a DPS Chanter/Cleric". hehe

Ranged classes do have an advantage here as well. Things can balance out better as classes evolve and gain more counters, but a lot of people playing melee  characters in the 20s and 30s will be frustrated by battles where they can't even reach the opponent. Of course, grouping can level the playing field and give everyone a chance to offer something valuable.

I'll be pushing the leveling curve the first couple of weeks. I'm rolling Assassin for the quick kill speed with little down time. I don't mind grinding, when it's needed or advantageous to do so and I found grind with the Assassin to work well. If I still feel like keeping up with top end of the server leveling curve after the first two weeks, I'll stick with it to 50. If not, I'll bankroll an alt, maybe a Spirit Master or a Templar, both of which I enjoyed in CB.

Or, if there is a lack of healers who are actually good at group healing, I'll alt a Cleric. I usually play a healer as my main, but I want to see what percent of the people rolling Chanters or  Clerics actually play the healer role before deciding to commit to an overpopulated archetype.

I played an Assassin in beta because I always love stealth types but I think if I purchase Aion anytime soon I'll be rolling a Chanter due to the fact that it reminds me of a Paladin, my  only level 80 in WoW. Plus I have a thing for healing. But I have a question; to anyone who played a high level Chanter, can they be considered a main healer? Would I be able to handle a group in a dungeon, etc.? Please let me know, that's a huge part of my decision.

Gladiator & Chanter for me.  Gladiator will be my main,  Not sure how much time I will invest in my Chanter.

They can to a point but really not recommended.  Cleric is far better at healing, and at end game chanter cannot handle the role. They will just support the cleric (added heals) in a group if the cleric needs it.

Cleric here, as my son's playing a Sorcerer so we figure in a duo if I can keep him alive, he can make sure they go flat.

Besides, I like good group utility, and very seldom in a game do I see an overabundance of pure healers.

So are they a formidable DPS class? Not top of the charts but at least something to reckon with?

I get the same feeling about all the folks clicking cleric and chanter as their choice.  Personally having played a cleric in OB, I know I like its playstyle enough to stick one out in retail.  I also know that soloing with it is a chore, especially watching other classes breeze through the same mobs with speed.  I sincerely doubt that most will have the patience for it, and I think too many people have somehow idealized healers from "past experiences" with them as some sort of damage dealers that have ultimate soloability with heals.  Just not the case here.

Any rate, I'm amazed that assassin doesn't top this list with ease.  I might end up changing to sin if there's a serious lack of them in-game.

In CB and OB I tried a chanter/cleric/sorc./ranger. All were fun but after seeing videos of what a Gladiator does, the fact he can use a bow while rooted and a variety of other weapons, I think I'll be rolling a Gladiator.

I'll be sorcerer because of the fact that I always play mages in MMOs.

  • cmp1988cmp1988 Member Posts: 8

Templar, because I tend to play tank type classes in MMOs.  I like the prospect of being unkillable alongside a good healer, that and I tend to play more group based classes than solo artists.

I tested almost of the class's in China until mid lvls, and still dont know yet.

Templar: very cool tank, love it on groups, didnt like much in solo moments.

Chanter: Great Hybrid (but i still prefer casters).

Gladiator: really cool combat style, solo or group (but i still prefer casters).

Sorc: Amazing, the only thing i didnt like much (at least until lvl 29) not much instance skills. But with 3 cc's at lvl 29, its really cool playing with it.

Assassin: Never liked much this type of class.

Ranger: Its a great option, but 2 of my real life friends going for this as a main allready.

Cleric: 1 of my friends go for one, so, 1 cleric is enouph for our group. But i liked too, nice class.

The only class i didnt tested was a SM, so, and after talk with my real life friends and get decided for one DD/DPS, i thing im going for SM, at least is going to be "new" for me, then i will decide if i will keep it as my main  :)

So, as DD/DPS undecided between Sorc and SM.

Did anybody reach a point in OB where they could equip non-class weapons?

How difficult was this? Was it useful?

unless you get kill by a assasin while lvling xD then I think you will have tough time getting out of that one, unless you can pop your shield and manage to run to safety.

Only 6 of 165 goes for SM... Seams SM is still the less loved class in AION  :(

All the rest is pretty balance  :)
