i like the instance because: no KS, no beggars and annoying people... however, open world is more fun and the players will bring life into the game. in GW, i often feel like the game is too "empty" when i'm killing stuff. also, it will be easier to find friends / parties. AND if you have cool stuff, you have more chance to showoff, lol =P
No beggers and annoying people? Guess you havent been to Shing Jae Monestary, Ascalon City, Beacon's Perch or Kamadan lately...
I do agree with the KS though. Used to play Deicide, but one of my pet peeves was KSing and looting. While ANet will have something in place for the looting (they already have a 10 min lock even though it is instanced) I hope they have something to prevent KSing
I for one am happy a company does not reuse a concept they have used before and try something different. If they wanted GW2 to be the same as GW1 then they would have made an other expension instead!
To me it seems a bit of bad business to move from a proven model to a new model... but I suppose it is their game to do as they wish.
How do you mean?
From the business side of things I dont think anything has changed. The will probably be releasing expansions more than stand-alone campaigns, though with the introduction of Cantha and Elona and whatever else to the GW2 world they might do that to get the ball rolling. Certainly I believe there will be more frequent expansions than what there are with WoW
As for the game, I will say there needed to be that improvement. Changing models here is half about implementing stuff that they wanted to do, half about retaining their fan base and expanding on it. They changed a few of things with EotN from previous games (res shrines during missions for example) but without drastic changes like this, I feel that Utopia, or the following unconcieved campaign, would have met an evolutionary dead end for GW, with the possibility of losing players to other games cause of it. Hell, I have seen now others go off to other games in the +2 year wait between EotN and GW2, which should hopefully return with its release, but if they were to follow the same track I just wonder how many would have stayed, or just checked out the latest campaing only to go back to playing WoW or whatever new game comes out
Guild Wars 2 may be open world, but don't forget missions and certain events are still going to be instanced, so you don't have much to worry, you get half of what the original has in a way. To me, the game being open world is exciting and I wonder what more they can do to the world of Tyria.
What more they could add to missions?! I'm looking forward to what they do with them! Those cinematics are probably going to look terrific too!
I like to play open world MMO's... because they are MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER ONLINE whatevers. Main reason to play is to interact with people, might as well as play a stand alone game if you want instanced zones.
I love guild wars but Open world is the way to go, much more interaction, you hate the fag that took your monster but if he wasn't there to be hated it would be boring. + World PvP is the best.
GW 2 is going to be the game of the century, I am assured of this, the game will be the game of the century, the next level of integrity, where gamplay matters, not money, blizzard's origional developers are with Arenanet, your favorite games, Classic WoW, BC, Diablo 2 Diablo 1, warcraft, starcraft, those developers are in arenanet, you can't expect anything less from them, blizzard lost its integrity and became weakly humans, greed strucken, lazy, unintelligent, they've lost it, the game's history keeps alot of people in and its subscription fees, but guildwars has none, so why are they working on it? to make the best game in the world? people who are this dedicated and good will get what they want.

Clasic WoW was not developed by the people from Arena Net... Arena net was allready producing GW by that time.
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
Many people were turned off my the instances and also low level cap. Guild Wars 2 will fix both so they can open the door to more players. It is going to be a great game.
Sadly Guild Wars as we all knew it is going to die with Gild Wars 2. GW is unique game, GW2 will try to be comercial one.
Read about the game before you start complaining... It will have some similarities to the pile of current-gen MMO's, yes. But if you read about the game, before posting here, you would've known GW2 WILL be different.
"The quest system, for instance, has been completely overhauled, and will offer something quite different from its competitors. "I think I can safely say that you won't see a single exclamation mark floating above a character's head in Guild Wars 2," claims lead designer Eric Flannum." ~ eurogamer

GW is awesome. The best ever PVP I've experienced in an MMO. I'd even say its my favourite MMO of all time. And it being F2P, it was like my dream MMO. The fact that EVERYTHING is instanced really apealled to me. It was what set it a part from other "generic" MMOs. But... Why open world for GW2? I think being open world is going to make GW lose its identity. This is a MAJOR turn off for me.
The best PVP i ever witnessed was in a fps where it belongs ...Unreal Tournament, but no matter we each have our opinion on PVP.
I just thought i might point out that GW did not in any fashion utilize instances to create an identity nor were they trying to be different,it was strictly a bandwidth, money saving setup.
I have no idea at all as to why they are going open world, but i have a couple ideas how they will do it.They might utilize several channels, witch in essence is the same as instancing .I have no idea why you the poster enjoys instancing in a MMO? that makes zero sense,if you want to be alone why not play a single player game?
As for my other thought, they will have very short draw distances,a very low end game, meaning shaders/lighting/shadows will all be done on the cheapest scale they can get away with. These guys are former WOW developers,i am sure they know by now players are willing to support and play anything ,even low end garbage.
In saying all of that,if GW2 is a decently high poly game, with some modern mechanics like actual movers/moving doors ect ect,and delivers decent game play, while at the same time maintaining an open world not full of instances,i will commend them for a great job.Of course i would expect a decent sized world as well,i don't want to hear of another Aion where they are already making the next expansions to sell you the rest of the game, before this one is even in beta stage.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

GW has other ways to keep the performance as good as possible. In GW1, when you equip an armor piece, you replace the body mesh underneath it for example. Or they could use billboards for LOD, like they did in Prophecies. Nor will they have to go high poly, decent textures can do so much more than a few thousand polygons nobody will ever see. I'm not sure about moving collisions though, that's a feature that's rare, even in FPS's. Imagine an MMO using it, that's most likely to end up in serious performance issues, CPU-wise.
BTW, Anet has helped develop SC, WC and Diablo (anything using BNET actually), NOT WoW. There's a huge difference in quality between those games.
You know it, the best way to realize your dreams is waking up and start moving, never lose hope and always keep up.
GW2 officially now has my interest. The original GW managed to get me to quit after a week. It never felt like a MMO. But hopefully this will turn out better.
Sadly Guild Wars as we all knew it is going to die with Gild Wars 2. GW is unique game, GW2 will try to be comercial one.
I dont know if you realise it, Guild Wars is a commercial game. The difference between GW and most others, besides the instancing, is the business model of no monthly fees. While the instancing has lessened, they are still sticking to the business model

I did like that in the GW instanced world you could AFK for dinner and come back knowing you were right where you stopped and not /server kicked by the game. I also liked that after you killed a mob in a zone it stayed dead and gone the whole time you were in the zone - no reappearing mobs out of thin air. I loved having henchmen to fill out a party, or heck to solo with too.
While these features were what made GW shine for me, the other side was I missed more player interaction which you get on a persistant world. I left GW a while back, but not having an auction house and better crafting were also on the down side.
I will remain watchful, and will most likely get this game when it comes out. I think they can strike a good balance here. anet did us right the first time, I think they deserve a shot this go around, IMHO.
The founders of ArenaNet were former employees of Blizzard Entertainment who played important roles in developing the highly successful computer games Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo, Diablo II, and the Battle.net gaming network. Their new studio was briefly called Triforge, Inc.[4] before changing its name to ArenaNet and being acquired by NCsoft.

I wish they have more crafting and housing that would be awesome
I have to say that the move to open world is a positive light for me in GW2 seeing as Anet has stated that instancing will still be kept for dungeons and story driven missions. I think this will give GW2 a feel of GW1 and innovation of a open world free to explore and interact with the players and world around you, it will make the world feel more alive while still holding to the story driven aspect of GW1 that so many people either love or hate.

Im looking forward to GW2 big time.
From what I've read it's gonna be great.
I so loved playing the first, and still do now, and again, but I miss many of the friend's I made in various guilds
over the years they have gone onto other games, so I hope that this will bring a lot of the old players back.

i do hope gw2 make the game like this
you die ,no walking etc myou just respawn but everything you killed respawn too
walking is stupid waste of time i would rater respawn say 10 second later where i died and all mob respawned too
way more interactive and you lose more time killing mob then walking back
walking back suck
