If prelaunch is any indication of what can be expected from the new MMORPG Aion, hang onto your $50 for now and wait. Many who expected to create characters during prelaunch are finding an ill prepared development team locking down servers, leaving portions of established guilds unable to participate. Very disappointing.

Is this the first MMO to have so much fail BEFORE launch? ;D
dude the servers will unlock just because your impatient doesn't mean you should go around trolling trashing a game if they didnt do this it would cause massive pvp imbalances and a lot of people would likely leave, please do us all a favor and research a bit before you say something like this
I'm sorry but perhaps you would be better equipped to make such statements if you could see farther than your nose.
I rather enjoy the fact that they are taki9ng such painstakingly lengths to ensure that the populations is balanced. Remember, whats right, is not always popular.
My Thoughts on Content Locust
See ya
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
this is your first MMO isnt it?
its called faction balance... they are trying to make sure the servers arent one sided.
There's lots of unfounded idiocy and anger in this thread. Get over yourselves.
That's not true. The OP only made one post.

maybe man but its not just comeing from the people your talking to your also being an idiot don't troll man its bad for your health
lol ,its aion teams fault if all those supposedly solid guild didnt use ts or vent to reach each other come on its you guys responsability to check aionsource all the info has been there from the start of the pre
putting that on ncsoft fault is a low blow ,you guys should have contacted each other dont tell me all server are full they are not
if your guild hsd used ts or vent as it should or e mail each member none of the this would happen
espacially your guild had months not days months to make sure everyone of their player could be on ts or vent when guild wanted to reserve ,it doesnt have to be server x lol
now you just told each other a server name and you cant move so all those guild will wait till server open again
then guys wait till it open have a nice night
aion do a great job doing it like that yes ,some that didnt plan correctly always arise but for most
server are filling up nicelly
go sleep tomorrow your server will probably be open around 9 am lol
i love your comment ,
IT VERY TRUE
whats right, is not always popular.
Whats disappointing is you. Stop being so narrow minded and think about why you might not be able to log in!
You should have seen WoW when it launched, talk about fail. This game is fairly polished as it is, I drool at the idea of it running, *better*? The problem that you are QQing about isn't actually a problem at all. Its NCsoft being responsible and maintaining balance on their servers so that when they launch they won't suffer the same fate as Mythic did with Warhammer. If you read previous threads, others have stated this in detail multiple times.
Frankly I am glad they are not bowing down to whining to ensure a successful launch.

Very uninformed post. as Facebook users that subscribe to AION can attest to. I myself made 2 characters after a minor server glitch. If the OPEN BETA and general game play thus far has been any indication, this game promises to be a record breaker in every regard. I guess some posters don't take into account that every game has it's little hiccups during "rushes" such as this.
So far the game has been everything promised and more. Which in the last 10 years NO mmorpg has been able to deliver on launch day let alone a year after going "Gold". The veteran mmorpgs still have some of the same issues they had upon release. Infact some of the most veteran games out there are still only being played because there is no real strong competition, till now.
The player videos speak for themselves. The fan base is tremendous and completely blown away by game content, playability and over-all fun. in whats known as "region" chat in game the only general consensus about the game is, why play anything else. So please judge for yourself. If your interested in the honest opinion of the people who have actually played the game please check out www.theaionwiki.com created by the players for the players.

I'll be interested to see what all these assholes opinions are Sunday when all the servers crash from overload and lag, like OB.
I dunno man. Trolls, such as the OP (umm, nice topic name), who have no idea what they're talking about get pretty old after a short time. Reading the OP, you'd assume that NCSoft had shut its doors due to an overload of some sorts. What's actually happening is that NCSoft had population limits and forced race balance locks in place long before they opened the doors for pre-selection. As the server's soft limits have been reached, they've closed them down for creating further characters. As the servers become too populated on one race over another, they've locked players from creating more characters of that race until more of the other are created.
Anyone with (a bad) experience in an MMO where population imbalance heavily favored the enemy side is completely and utterly thrilled over what's taking place. Furthermore, locking character creation on servers that have reached capacity is no new practice - I remember plenty of times in WoW seeing servers that were "locked" because they could handle no more.
The only reason that people are so up in arms over the situation is because they'd chosen their servers and races before the game even began, and now some of those options are gone. People are even so selfish as to believe that no matter how heavily it would affect the game (long or short term), they should be able to make any character on any server at any time.
Frankly, I'm one of the people who are thrilled over the way this has gone. Servers will be crowded on headstart day, and on release. However, due to these limits, at most, players will face a 10% deficit against the enemy race and gameplay won't screech to a halt due to overpopulation of servers.

I hear you. I guess I'm more worried that the imbalance/overpopulation and the subsequint lock-out will last past prelaunch. Having played MMO's for years, I know that whether your Midgard, Horde (any ugly/evil faction), will have a lower population. I play Horde in WOW and we are definately outnumbered.
The Aion server my giuld is on is not imbalanced, it just has a higher population at the moment.
We are in "pre-launch" the server is locked. Population is low? Just doesn't make sense.

Not really impatient, just have higher expectations. In the advertisement to buy the prelaunch, early character creation is one of the enticements. I bought the prelaunch and I'm not able to proceed as advertised.
ty daarken for link freaking nicest wiki i ever saw
Dewey, I wouldn't waste your breath here. It seems the amount of idiots willing to crucify you for having a valid concern over a game vastly outweigh the people who actually want to listen to you and discuss it. It'd be like punching a brick wall at this point.
I had to laugh at the text I highlighted above. The team was actually quite prepared for what would ensue today. Once the servers came online I had no trouble logging in and creating my characters.
I was honestly shocked I got in so quickly, I was expecting the server to crash, or some issue to come up.
As far as NCSoft locking servers this was a well planned idea to ensure there aren't 1 or 2 overly popular servers while the rest of the servers are ghost towns. A GREAT idea in my opinion.
Just FYI, the servers that are currently locked will be unlocked as soon as the populations even out across all of the other servers.
"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."
The locks will remain in place after launch. There will never be more than 10% more players of one faction than another. Choosing factions - particularly the highest faction - to keep from being outnumbered in this game is pointless.
Regardless, they're not somehow falsely advertising nor are they stopping you from creating your characters prior to the game's launch (they've still got til Tuesday). The reality of it is, everyone just needs more patience. If you can't make your character yet, you pretty much have one of a few choices:
#1. Sit at the server screen, spamming retry on your server of choice.
#2. Change servers and take your friends/guildmates with you.
#3. Change races and take your friends/guildmates with you.
#4. Go on about your business as usual and try another time.
Chances are, if you just wait, you'll very likely get in on the server and race you want. I just can't believe how insane people have gotten over it. The factions in Aion are identical. The only differences between the two are aesthetic only. Both sides have the same classes that share identical skills (only names vary, and for very, very few skills). That people have gone this apeshit over which environment they play in, and whether they have black or white wings is astonishing at this point, and yes I realize the differences are far greater than that in appearance.

We'll see. I'm going to have to assume aren't in an established guild that is trying to get on the same server. Hard to believe that servers are full during preregistration, even before prelaunch.
Every prelaunch is crazy. I could accept the wait in queue you experience when the game is launched. I find it hard to accept being shut out of a server that a part of my guild is on. Several of us are in the same boat. seems like a bad decision to me. We'll spend the first several days leveling, many will fall away (unless it is a really good game), and any efforts to balance the game at launch will not make a difference.
Dewey why did you report me? this is blue elf? why did you report me? I got banned... I didn't do anything wrong... know this because my post is gone from here....
true its not fun to be seperated from guildmate for a bit but you had months to plan this the right way
everybo¸dy in aion that want a balanced game are very happy by aion move
true its a bold move but a very good call ,you got till at least untill the general opening of the game to login
dont sweat it you will meet your guild not everybody is in a guild lol very few so the server will balance out
then by sundays opening you should be with your guildmate
AND AION WILL HAVE ACHIEVED THEIR GOAL OF HAVING A BALANCED GAME SO ALL CAN HAVE
CRAZY AMOUNT OF FUN
There's a poll on the Aionsource.com forums where over 700 people have already voted.
It's 85% in favor of the autobalancing vs. 15% against.
I think that speaks for itself.
i no that NCsoft is tryin to balance out both races so when the pvpve comes there is a balance between them. i dont think people would like 5 raids of asmo go to fight a raid of elyos. that would be totally absurd. however, people is obiously gonna complain about this because they couldnt create the character where they wanted to or maybe even to create a character. so wat NCsoft is tryin to do is pretty much for people to choose elyos or to select another server so that they are not left behind lol.
will NCsoft methods workout at the end who nos? many people will say this methods fail but they have no choise this is the only way to stop the balance within races. they are taking precautions of the game imbalance. (maybe they had this issue on the chinese or korea server which is why they are doing this maybe who nos)
I believe you, you mentioned you wanted the name Etna from the prelaunch, you wanted either Zelda or Etna....and your name is Lady Etna, so you really must be blueelf, did you really get banned?
