So, how is CO faring?

YunbeiYunbei Member Posts: 898

IMVPO the best standard of CO powers was about 2 weeks before OB ended. Then the nef bat was swung so I did not feel Super enough gradually, and esp. with the complicated system of stats and whatnot I thought "let's wait2 a while". This forum section has gotten quite calm, which usually does not bode well.

So how is it? Are the swinging the nerf bat still? Or have they learned and re-upped powers? (No debate here pls what is right, I feel a Superhero should feel super as the game was in the last OB phase, and I won't be deterred from it. I just want to know the overall state.)

And how are subs? And announced plans? And your prediction? ^^

they are still nerfing the game.

They are adding some more quest content to fill gaps

They are making changes too fast and too large

    They are pissing off customers

I believe subs have peaked and are starting to decline.  This will show up mainly after the first 30 days are done.

Well I've seriously had enough of this game.  I really tried to get it to work for me.  I have like 5 characters with my main one being lvl 33.

I tried to stick it out but the lack of content starting at lvl 30, the lack of any grouping or grouping balance, and finally tonight the bugs just got to me and I gotta ask myself am I having fun.  The answer unfortunately is no...

Here is a little thread that kinda shows the frustration that finally pushed me over the edge.  forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php

I'm afraid if you are gonna play this game you are going to want to be very very much a fan and willing to overlook a lot of shortcomings.

Cryptic is working hard to fix things but I think the major mistake and when the F**** are companies going to learn.

THIS GAME WAS RELEASED BEFORE IT WAS FINISHED.

And as a result it is going to send a lot of people out the door.

The game is quite repetitive and over the 3 weeks I played I only grouped once. Not cause I like to solo, cause I just never saw groups! Shame really as I was foolish enough to get 6 month sub!

    I think it's a great game...

I started at release, and I'm greatful that they made the game harder..

  • Loke666Loke666 Member EpicPosts: 21,441

    You look familiar, Thark.

Anyways, it is too soon to say anything right now. Most MMOs sell ok at start and then go down for a while. If the devs fix everything and add enough more content after a year or so it will start to attract new players again. If not it will continue to bleed players until they cancel it.

Unfortunatley are almost every single MMO released too early so we will all see how the gaming is doing next X-mas or so. Also how good DCU is will have a big impact on the subs. Same thing what NC soft is doing with CoX.

The only sure thing right now is that they will have to add a lot more group content, almost every single player that quited in this forum say that is the main point they quit. A MMO with very little grouping is more like a sologame and few people will want to pay a monthly fee for that in the long term.

But Cryptic must know that and is hopefully working on it right now.

Even with the frequent nerfs to outrageously powerful powers the game is still very very easy. I sure hope they don't "re-up the powers"! That would suck. If you're waiting for them to re-enable god-mode then you'd best move along.

The Blood Moon content expansion (not the one that fills the mission gap) is due in about a month.

  • yllisyllis Member UncommonPosts: 72

The game is quite a bit of fun, the high end content is lacking. Everyone will run out of missions and have to grind or tag along with groups for no rewards but critter exps at some point. I only had to grind about 200k of exps and it wasent too bad.

It looks good, plays well and has problems with content and rewards.

With that all said, I have some level of faith in crytic to make this game better, I do honestly feel at this time CoX is a better game, but Champions is in a good spot to overtake them. In time, maybe they will do it.

I played 7 character to lvl15 and I got one character to lvl17. Reason why I never lvl'd any other the others past lvl15 is once I got to MC, it got way to repetitive. So I quit.

I took a chance on this game. Picked it up the other day with actually little knowlege about  it. I honestly doubt I will play past the first month.

I am mostly not impressed with the Zoning. I log on n see 20-50 people in a zone, a few hundred spread across several zones. This is the main reason I left AoC because it was not the feeling of a subscription based MMO. Now this game has done the same thing. Guess I shoulda done a bit more research on the game...=p. Oh well...my 8 year old son loves the game...I guess I may hafta keep a sub for him.

IMO, its a great concept and generally pleasantly executed but:

    - the tutorial is too noisy and fast. There is no sense of pace that either introduces you to a world that you feel connected too or makes you associate with your char on a personal level. I think if you get this right the feeling carries on through the game but if it starts hollow it is very hard to get over that. There is no sense of deep story or purpose so if it feels like a trivial run and gun game then you kind of keep associating it that way

    - Economy - the economy is never really explained to you or encouraged to investigate. Its almost treated like an annoyance in the background

    - Powers - great selection and diversity but given away far too easily. I feel that a superhero game needs to make you feel a sense of accomplishment when you EARN powers rather than through a xp system

    - Layout - zones are just plain dull. Too few large zones where different level ranges and styles are bolted together like an unhealthy jigsaw. You kind of feel that you just run around a hub rather than experience different areas of play. This is where EQ2 and wow certainly got it right. Each zone feels like a new environment and keeps your interest peeked.

I will keep playing as I am long in the tooth to know that games develop massively over the first 6 months of life but at the moment this does not fee anything special or truly different to not join countless others in the 2nd tier market.

Powers all felt the same to me. Its also incredibly repetitive and felt like a very generic MMO dressed up in a superhero skin, whch seems to be what  people claim makes it 'different'.

The combat is very unconnected and the performance is bizarre. One second youre flying along at 50fps and the next youre under 15.

How's it faring? I quit. The nerfs didn't stop.

Game is a lot of fun but I finaly got bored. You have a max level of 40 in the game and by the time you are in your mid 20's (at the latest) you have gotten all the powers you will want or realy need. After that it is just quest, quest, grind grind without anything realy to look forward too. Dont get me wrong the game is fun but I like the idea of having somthing to look forward to for the end game, some power or ability that makes it all worth wild.

While that might be true for some thematic builds, its not necessarily true for all builds. There are a lot of filler powers that can contribute well to any build. This includes powers like Sonic Device, Toxic Nanites, Circle of Primal Dominion, and even pets. All those powers can contribute to whatever core theme a character may have without changing the way the character already plays. There are also different roles that you could fill out. For example, you could add support powers even if you may only use them in a group.

I agree to some extent and have suggested that they add another tier of powers as a sort of capstone for each set. It will probably happen eventually.

You also didn't mention Advantage Points which you really can not have enough of. Most of your later levels are about enhancing powers more so than adding additional powers.

But you're right about one thing, the game play is mostly just questing and combat. Then again, if you don't enjoy questing and combat then you're probably in the wrong genre. What are the alternatives? Long travel times? Grindy crafting? WoW-style life-sucking raids? No thanks. I'd rather just hop in the next MMOG and start the quest grind all over again.

  • I am still having fun with it so far. I don't have so much time to play atm though, only up to level 30 or so with a couple of characters so can't vouch for the endgame, but so far I can say that it's the most fun I have had with an MMO in quite a while.

For me it is more enjoyable than Aion so far at least.

I hear a lot of people is leaving. I was in Champion online beta. I hated how it was a grindfest. I hope it better now. But at this point I can wait for STO or swtor to come out.

    100% spot on.

Every single character you make, with few exceptions, plays exactly the same.

I created lots of alts to try out different power sets but only the color and look of the powers were different. They all were pretty much the same. And... there's really not a lot of strategy to combat other than damage dealing. This game is simply do as much damage as you can and watch your energy consumption as you do it. That's about it.

Also... The idea of auto attacking to recharge energy was not a good choice. For one, it's ridiculous. And two, its boring beyond belief. And what's with the power descriptions??? They make little sense.

And.. my biggest gripe, if you can call it that is the same one I had with WAR. This game is NOT social at all. Not even a little bit. I played for almost a month now, NOT renewing my sub btw, and only grouped once for a quick, short quest. The game doesn't encourage social interaction and that will come back to haunt the developers one day.

Anyway, I thought the game was quite fun for a couple weeks until it became TOO repetitive. It's not a bad game in my opinion, but it's hardly a long term play.

You need to play for much longer if you are still only seeing 50 people in a Zone. It means you have not even left the Crisis TUTORIAL areas yet. So you haven't even seen the actual world.

There are normally about 150 people per zone. This number was adjusted in Beta, it used to be more.

With more people, quest objectives were always camped and it was difficult to get resources. At 150 people you often see other people in your zone, it never feels empty. Most areas especially Millenium city feel just right.

Given the number of MMO's out there and new ones coming up, I don't know that a year is a solid length of time a dev can count on as a grace period for getting their act together anymore.

You are mistaken it is a max of 100 people per zone for the bigger ones like MC and such. Less for some like the begining desert or canada.

Pfft...that's not really a big difference. Ok...so 100 people feels just right. I've also seen over 100 people in the various zones...but it really doesn't change the point: Out of the crisis tutorial zones there are far more people per zone. This was changed several times during Beta until the 'perfect' balance was found for people per zone. The current level feels great to me, and you aren't struggling to complete missions.

What's all this talk about nerf bat? I wasnt around before the so called nerf but the game feels quite easy. I breeze through missions, 3-4 levels above me, and I can solo Super Villains of 1-2 level above me and can kill 5-6 henchman of the same level.

If anything the mobs need to become tougher as I feel myself routinely killing mobs 5 levels above me just to feel that it is challenging.
