So, I'm out of college now and working full-time at a place where the women are either not my type or married - ok, well, they're all not my type. Anyway, I broke up with my girlfriend from college around March and I'm ready to get back into the game (that stupid MMO they call real life where the subscription fee is about 90% of my paycheck). I was on Facebook talking to a family member when I saw an ad on the side for the "DatePad" application. Long story short, I've registered, filled out their compability stuff and even though I am getting lots of women looking at my profile, not a single bite.
What are your experiences with dating websites?

I've never been on a dating website before (though some MMO players seem to think their game is a dating website), because I tend to get extremely suspicious of people's internet personas. The problem is, you'll never know whether they really are the people they say they are, or even worse... best not to get involved in something like this.
I really feel for you though... I've never been on a date before, yet everyone around me is hooking up. Downright lonely, it is.

Hey, don't knock dating from MMOs. My cousin met his wife in WoW and they are happily married. And I dated a girl from Philly that I met in a MMO. It can and has worked, you just need to take it slow and be careful. My approach was this: First, we exchanged emails. We talked like that for a bit. Then we exchanged AIMs. Then we moved onto Facebook. Pretty soon, we were talking on the phone almost every night. Then, we met a few times and decided a friendship was better for us than a relationship.
I'm quite surprised but I already had a bite on this DatePad thing. She's local so it might be worth a shot. I was just wondering what the luck of others has been as I have never tried an actual dating website.
If your looking for a bitch/whore, sure trying try a dating website...
then again..pretty much same results no matter where you look.
Sadly, QFT.

sometimes, love just comes along even if youre not looking for it. it may come in the weirdest, most unexpected situations. but hey, you really wont know until you try it out. just take care cuz there are a lot of psychos out there
I used match.com a while back. Managed to get a few dates but really didn't find anything special that way. Mostly it's a huge waste of time. Lotta women on there just around for an ego boost. I would see the same women on there in my area over a period of a year or more.
I gave up on dating a little while ago. You just have to wait until something special comes along on it's own. You can have fun in the mean time and you dont have to be a hermit- but I've dated TONS of women and didnt really find anything special, I generally don't even like them anymore.
I've been with around 200 girls, bout half from dating and lotsa hook ups- and I don't feel like there's one i really wish was still around. Only 2 or 3 really stick out in my mind as having been anything special.
Hope you got your things together. Hope you are quite prepared to die. Looks like we're in for nasty weather. ... There's a bad moon on the rise.
I think one of the best free dating sites out there is, now don't laugh at the name, its Plenty of Fish.
Totally free and it has a forum and meeting events, like Halloween parties or just a casual get-together. I have been on that one for many years and met some really nice women. You can post pictures, take matching tests and allot of other stuff too. Doesn't cost a dime for anything.
Well worth it. Match.com is way over blown and it isnt cheap. Tried that one too.

You and your friend are extremely lucky then. Call me cynical if you will, but I would rather not take the risk. There's always the chance of something going wrong. I'll feel much safer if I can actually see the person face to face; it is a lot harder to hide fake personas when the person is right in front of you.

Hey, thanks! I'll give it a shot. I've been talking to a couple of girls from this DatePad site but most of them I just don't click with. They are the cheerleading, love fast cars, and even faster men type. I am a geek (and not shamed to admit it) and love conventions, museums, ren faires and the SCA (there is a SCA single's group but they are all...more mature).
My advice is stay away from free or cheap sites. People on those sites arent' serious.
The more it costs, the more effort involved, the more serious the people using the service.
Try eharmony. It costs more, and takes more effort to set up your profile.
I agree with you there on most free sites, but Plenty of Fish is a really good one. You can search for women local, like 5 miles if you want to.
No, dating sites are just creepy. You can get plenty of stalkers going to the grocery store, no need to go looking for them on websites.
I thought about joining a datingsite, but then I thought why bother. I wouldn't get very far since I'm very below average looking, unemployed, still live at home and play pc-games at the tender age of 36.
That was one time!... jeez...
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
LOL!! Too right. But I have nothing against dating in MMO's. In fact I've met two guys in Ragnarok Online and both of them became my real-life boyfriends. Although the first one was total s**t, my second lasted a good two years. We just had to break up since he neglected his studies. He could've been a great boyfriend had he only shaped up.
But I personally haven't tried dating websites. ^^
I am simply myself, no more and no less. And I only want to be free.
I think not all the person in the website are bitch.. There are some that it real I mean there are some really wants to find they're love through the site. Maybe they find the right person for them in there. For me I've tried it before but never see my mr. right there..ahahha
Never tried site like that before and will never try in the future.. really have no interest in it.
I am sorry Moonlight, I am sure you have alot of great things to say and am glad you are active on the forums, but I will have to block your posts due to your signature. I can't stand those graphix.. like to the point I want to rip their anime arms and legs off like lego people. Just as my red text makes some peoples eyes bleed, anime graphix give me a headache and makes me violent.
I am sure your a great person, and this is in no way anything against you.. it is me .. I have issues with anime.. make me nausiated even.
Have fun, but I will not be able to read your posts. If you are addressing me someone is going to have to quote you for me to see it.

Time to mess with deviliscious. I love it.
With so many goons even on the Internet, it's so much harder to trust people nowadays.
But I do believe that love can find you anywhere even on the Internet. Just think of those relationships hat start in WoW that end up in marriage.
I am simply myself, no more and no less. And I only want to be free.
I've never hooked up with anyone from a dating service befor but my sister had met a guy on one and has been with him for over 5 years now. I guess it can work but to me it seems like roulette in a way.

I tried lava life. I don't know how it is now but when I used it you posted your profile, some pictures or video and basically did searches for people who fit your preferences. You could send a "smile" to someone you were interested in. Then you could email them using lavalifes email system. This required purchasing points from lavalife, so all you did was send your outside email or phone number.
At first I felt it was a waste. I'd get tons of smiles, start to talk to them and not joking but I'd say 90% of the women were single mothers who were separated or divorced. Another very annoying factor was the women who would put up a picture that was from 10 years ago. The webpage at the time was split into three sections, Friendship, Relationship, and Intimate Encounters (basically sex). I'd recommend browsing all three because some woman post profiles in each with different information.
For example one girl I conversed with daily who wanted to set up a date I learned also had a profile in the intimate encounters. I went and found that after having set up a time to meet me was still asking for dates there, which included girls... I sent a smile to her profile on that profile to let her know I'd seen it and she immediately stopped all communication lol.
Can't complain that much. I met my wife on lavalife
For shits and giggles I tried perfect match; it hooked me up with this chick from Somalia, because it thinks I'm compatible with a risk-seeker (being risk averse). At least E-harmony was honest and said I wasn't compatible with anybody....
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.
One thing I did notice on allot of those dating sites is that there are loads of women from Canada. Now, why is that?
