The extremist instance-hatemongers can't be expected to show up in every thread, jeez.

If "instance" was in this thread's title I assure you they'd be here decrying the game as a travesty against MMORPGs and a devolution of the genre.

There has been a lot of talk about Aion being a "WoW clone" or "WoW 2" and while something will remind you of WoW,Aion is very much not WoW.I've always been a gamer that like to play "risk for reward" PvP games,i've played Neocron,UO ,Shadowbane and Darkfall to name a few,so when hearing about Aion and they hype behind it turned me off about the game.
It took a lot of begging on some of my friends parts but they got me to try Aion, and i must say they have done a very good job with blending a lot of things i like about MMO's,and belive it or not ....there is risk i PvP .So maybe its not full loot, but  there higher level you are the more you risk (meaning if you die you going to pay a ton of gold to get a soul heal and you also going to take a nasty hit on your abyss points ,and that could be hours of work ,or worse yet ....you set them back so they cant obtain that new peice of gear they wanted ).
So in short i want to let people know that you should choose for yourself to try it or not  and dont belive the BS for so called 'hardcore gamers" ....because this game has some hardcore values and i myself think its a very good step in belinding what everyone likes about MMO's.

OP, I was a SB vet, how is it in similarity to that?

Not really too meny similaritys to SB,i was just stating that i've came from and play what some people would call "Hardcore PvP " or "Nitche" games. My basic point is that its not all fluff and there is a lot of goos fun in the game .

PS .Yes most people will PvE there way to get there abyss points but that still dont mean that it wont make me happy when i kill there noob ass and they get to go grind for another 6 hours to get back to where they were.

    Hardcore gamer's definition belongs to...

A crazy person with no life or someone who gives up their life to play the game without sleeping for 24 hours and beyond without taking care of their selves at all. So committed to playing the game that they love that it's scary and wrong.

Hardcore Game's definition belongs to either...

Hardcore mode: If you die in the game your character is deleted.

The game pulls you into it literally or it follows you around somehow on a floating screen.

    :P

  • SeamzSeamz Member UncommonPosts: 55

The game itself isn't really enthralling, and I don't see it beign as hardcore as some people think it will be.

They'll give it a rest when you stop butchering the English language.  Deal?

For the people who keep mentioning linear level design: Play beyond level 10.

It's very obvious that up to level 10 is more of a tutorial, Which is why you don't get to pick your "real" class untill level 10.

Once you're level 10 you will be teleported out of the newbie zone and you will enter the big world, which is much more open ended than the starter areas.

Yet, right after you get your wings, the very next zone is just as linear as the tutorial, albeit a little more open.

    Asmodians: Ishalgen (1-10)>Altgard (10-20)>Brusthonin (20-30)>Morheim (30-39)>Beluslan (40-50).

I haven't really played the Elyos side but I'm sure that it's the same.

I'm sorry but that is the epitome of linear game design.

Instanced zones do sound like the ones in AoC and CoX, but I never had a problem with those. They are not an advantage though as some are trying to paint here. With high end graphic games like AoC and Aion it is understandable that something has to give to allow the game to run smoothly.

I like the idea that in main cities and pvp areas there will not be instancing/channels, if I have got that right?

Although I suggest you don't try it right now because the servers are already quite full.

It's a very expensive price to pay for a "try", though.  As you say, the servers are utter crap at the moment, and I managed to log in only twice over the entire weekend - when you're 2231 in a queue of 2231 and the estimated time to get in is over the two-hour mark, well, I certainly wasn't going to sit and wait around for it.

One major word of warning is that the quests are the same old unsophisticated shit we've seen for nearly a decade - fed-ex this, kill 10 of that, grind mob, grind mob, grind mob.  What they hell they were thinking of when someone put that into a brand-new up baffles me. The game is pretty enough, mind you, but just about any Asian game can say that.  The sound effects in combat will have you turning the sound levels for those down to around 5% though, to avoid listening to your character screaming and grunting like a chimp in heat.

The game is a chore rather than a pleasant form of entertainment and my subs were cancelled within 30 minutes.  I've unenthusiastically got to lvl 12, just to see if the game is worth paying a monthly fee for, and so far I wouldn't play it all that much even if it went F2P. It's too simplistic and repetitive, up to now.  Even players who are lvl 20+ admit, if pushed, that the game stays pretty much the same.  It figures.

I might try the game but with everyone having wings and flying around like fairies? No thanks.

Don't take THIS review as the one for this game, he even states in it himself he barely got out of the tutorial (1 to 10 is tutorial and he only got to 12).  Seriously biased review of a game he barely tried, just another bad opinion from someone who thinks they can review a game in the first 5 minutes of play. Seriously though, if you honestly think you 'experienced' this game in the short time you tried it than yes you should have cancelled your subs. Anybody who decides they hate something before they try it...hmm there is a word for that type of attitude isn't there...just can't remember what it is, oh yeah - prejudice.

(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)

Aion is the typical asian grindfest, just dressed up a bit.  It has all the junk usually associate with such.  Personal shops that clutter and lag the cities. Channels which means everything is instanced, want to play with a friend, find the channel they are in. Bad pvp design, 2 faction wars just don't work, once someone starts winning constantly the rest leave.  Little to do at end game except pvp, oh yeah that will eventually break too.  Minimal crafting design, nothing to keep anyone playing.

So enjoy your journey to end game, but don't race through it, because you will quit when you get there.

If you don't have a feel for how a game will pan out within a very short space of time there's something wrong with you.  I've seen games like Aion time after time - they're a dime a dozen - and if it plays like a grinder and has quests that were out of date over 5 years ago it is immediately apparent to any discriminating player.  Aion is quite pretty, but very, very cliched, totally linear and the content feels stale.  Tarting up tired old content like this with pretty graphics merely results in something which pleases the easily entertained.

So more or less what you are saying is you need to be unemployed to get good abyss gear, got it. Typical :)

I guess with Aion's technology you don't need to re-roll to another server when you discover that some friend of yours plays the game as well? What a pity :S

"Traditionally, massively multiplier online games have been about three basic gameplay pillars – combat, exploration and character progression. In Alganon, in addition to these we've added the fourth pillar to the equation: Copy & Paste."

I make myself play this, to see if it gets better.  Lvl 22 now and it is still the same ancient, boring linear quest content as ever.  Some people must be easily entertained if they think this is new and fresh game content.  I shall keep going, to await my epiphany and see the light.  I think I'll be waiting a looong time.  Still, the disk will make a nice frisbee.

People who complain about other games that they don't like or whatever reasons they have are just WAY to damn funny.  Still don't understand why people come on these forums to just flame other games.  What's the point really?

Everyone has opinions, but does that make them the universal truth??? NO!
