Threads like this almost makes me wish that the game did had a fee.
What the hell does it matter...
I don't play certain online games just because they are free. I don't play Americas army or a tetris clone because they dont cost me any money.
Fee is totally irelevant. It's about the quality of the product.
Why I want this game?
Because WoW, EQ2 and all the others are too time consuming.
WoW is really a big set up for this. It takes hell of allot time to do stuff. Wasting time to increase fishing skill.... Run around half the world doing mindless fishing quests. "uhh... please delivery this to"... sort of mission crap.
Im looking farward to GW because its a game that takes player skill, involvment, tactics, teamwork and understanding of the game more seriously than the time played.
Games like WoW and DAOC are totally dependant on peoples levels and gear. Skill and tactics is almost irelevant and the luck factor is too big.
Here is a game where I can jump in and feel good about myself when winning or losing in PvP.
Furthermore I don't have to run my retarded avatar for 10 minutes just to get somewhere.
It destroys monkey sinks, time sinks and all irelevant things.
I can jump in and have fun. And frankly that is what matters to me.
don't knock America's Army its a great strategic shooter esp. for free and tetris used to be the most popular game back in the day (look how long it lasted)
my reasons are:
1.NO MONTHLY FEE
2.GREAT GRAPHICS
3.RUNS SMOOTH ON MY NOW "OBSOLETE" PC
4.REMINDS ME A LOT OF DIABLO (mixed with the glossy Fable)
and NO if there was a monthly fee I wouldn't play this game because as casual, beautiful and "strategic" as it is it is far too simplistic for advanced mmo players (in fact its like a tetris of MMO's play a lil when u got time and leave it for a week)

My thoughts exacly, its a Diablo/Bloodstone/Dungeon Siege-clone/copy/whatever but with big pvp battles (as in its not 1vs1 or 10vs1). Great as a morpg but poor as a mmorpg. The pvp part of game will probably be the main reason people stay (yes I know duhh its namedGuildWars).
I'm updating my top 5 reason why I want this game. and I excluding the Free monthly fee from this list because that goes without saying,that first list was just to get a reaction.
1:It's simple to play and learn in an hour(and an hour goes quick in a game), because of it's simplicity people are able to have fun from the time you start the game to the time you log off the game.
2:It's great for dial-up connection's I downloaded over 200meg's in 6 hour's if it was a standard .zip it would take 5 week's to download that amount of content it's awsome.
3:The game play is like so many rpg's that i have played, to me it feel like Diablo 2 with Neverwinter Nights, Morrowind and Star Wars Galaxies wrapped into one game,just with out the mega list of skill's that you have to acquire to advance in your profession.
4:The graphic's and the landscape are nice, very nice but not new it looks like something you'd get from the xbox but that's good.
5:The music and the sound effect's are top notch and no one comment's on the music and sound effect's well I am hahahaha.
I totally recommend this game it's just fun to play.

guild wars is my most anticipated game 'cause:
1.it has AWSOME GRAPHICS
2.pvp combat is really good
3.world is preatty huge
4.UI is easy and very nice
5.no monthly fee

Catch what you just said here bro? Ask yourself why are WoW, EQ2, ect games are so time consuming.... Asnwer: they want to keep you playing for a really long time. Now why would they want you to do that? So you keep paying the 'Fee.' Considering the way these game works one could assume that the developers designed the game to be long term for their consumer base. There for the fee is not irelevent and is infact a large part of the structure of the said games, and as you said, the quality of the product.
Im not trying to flame you in anyway, Im just pointing different dynamics regarding 'Fees' can produce a game that has emphasis on other areas. GW has taken all the boring stuff out, like transport, grinding skills up, camping on a monster spawn and even lvling to a large degree. They have just left all the fun bits. They removed all the stuff we, the gamers dont like, because they are not interested in the monthy fee.
Okay here are my top 5 reasons (im for sure going to buy this game)
1. Runs smoothe on even computers that are relly old (even though mine isnt old my friends pc is old and im really glad he can paly with me)
2. The graphics are awesome, especailly for a game that is not p2p like this is better then many p2p games like savage eden or second life (even though they might have content or sumthing this is free)
3. There are different districts so ascalon city (the city) wont be too crowded or somthing also, when u adventure it kinda makes a own server for u on yur fellow adventurers making no kill stealers and stuff it totally divides the xp evenly on who did more work even the lazy bums get xp :P oh and tough luck to u looters the items are divided automaticly only evryone can lay their dirty hands on yur items if they wait for a long time... a damn lnog time the items are also divided in how much use the item is to u like if yur a party of a ranger and warior the system will probably give the bows to the rangers and the hammers/swords to the wariors also for the quest items they are also divided but some slackers can not give the quest items to the ppl they need to give the quest items too (not good!) this game is about teamwork so recruit someone useful on your team. not a slacker or a person who is trying to ruin the game
4. Nice skill system and also it doesnt take too long to lvl up thank god the xp drops for higher lvl characters in lower lvl areas so high lvls arent always there to take all the fun away from u theyll have to move to a harder area (if they want to lvl up that is) dont let those annoying high lvlers ruin your fun
5. There is no subscrition fee. it doesnt relly matter (even if there was a p2p fee i would still get it) but this feature saves you money and may let you buy that game you always wanted like WoW or everquest2 i cant beleive they made this game free. it might just attract more ppl. so all those ppl who want to paly 2 good games like GW and WoW then go ahead and play those games youve always wanted
Okay this game is great and not to mention again, its free please dont rate this game a bad rating if youve never played the beta dont ruin this games marks try it your self b4 rating this great game oh and this game is NOT bad because its free. making it free is smart and might attract more people giving more money to this great company to fix this game more making it better!!!! i am definantely getting this game when it comes out
and also as pingo said those other games imo (in my opinion) are really time consuming this game is just a quick login game. after that u just teleport to the selected location get a party and geit moving (also u can quit quick for those kids there who cant play during weekdays or sumthing :P)

I dont play WoW because i cant afford the costs and i do love the game.. i bearly pays for my internet ... so there is no chance i can afford the 15$ monthly fee that wow recuiers.

first... the 5 things that gets my attention to this game are:
1. The graphics engine is really good
2. The character customisation is done verry well (the options you can choose like monk/mesmer for example)
3. There doing alot of work to make this game "perfect" as they are having lost of beta weekends
4. The storyline is for me verry well thought of
5. The skill levels are well done ( they damage go's up with the missions you play and how much you pvp)
and as a reply to beastage,
The montly fee thing about they releasing new chappers, well if the chapper is out you dont have to buy it you can just continue playing the more older chapter.

why was the reply necessary??? he was just saying his opnion!!! and the fact the he is willing to pay monthly just means the he is willing to invest in games that he likes more then average players,that doesn't necessarily means that he is rich or spoild.
frankly i think uve all misunderstood him (pingo). i think that he was trying to say that the main reason for u wanting GW shouldn't be "no monthly fee" but it should be the game itself- like:"GW has great graphics, original gameplay and its pure fun so i want to play it- just like i want to play WoW, but unlike WoW GW has no monthly fee so not only i want to play it- i can and would play it".
hence "monthly fee" shouldn't be reason for one wanting the game it should be reason for one being able to afford it (meaning it shouldn't be one of the 5 reasons).
btw my reasons are:
1. original gameplay.
2. grsphics.
3. pure fun.
4. it sounds better then any other mmorpg.
5. ive never played an mmoprpg before (or any other online game) and i want to try...
1. THE STORIES (love the stories behind all theese quests)
2. The graphics (the best in MMORPG ways I think)
3. No monthly fee (1. crazy to just pay to play a game that is just for fun, and 2. you're still behind a computer, I would rather choose an arcade place to go with my friends 3. It's ok to buy it in store, but NOT to keep playing for it every month)
