It was DnL but now I am beginning to wonder.  One thing you can say about Wish was they put it out there for everyone to see.  What do the vast majority of people know about DnL besides reading about it.  I will tell you.  They know nothing.  A very small and closed beta list give most no idea what actual gameplay is like.  Wish sounded like a great game until you played it.  I am praying it's not the same for DnL

I only played Wish for 2 days, and that was only beta, so I could not make a knee jerk judgement on the game in such a short time, to be able to say it sucked, like many have. However, many of the ideas mooted by the devs, and some I've seen in game appeal to me.

Dark and Light offers many similarities so I'll look there. But I am not a mindless fanboi endlessly flaming all games but the one I love, whether developed or not. I'll play for myself, and read for myself, and make my mind up in time.

Lights are made in a retarded way, and if you scroll down you will see a lot of fans jerking off watching that pic.

    Interesting.

I was one of the lucky early ones into beta for Wish - so its been lovely to watch it improve :)

Now i was really gutted when i learn that it was being cancelled :(

for me, i'm oging back to more constant playing of eve-online. Similar level-less, class-less idea. Both have point and click interface, both have a heavy reliance on crafting.

Big lacks in Eve is the lack of an character-avatar and only being stuck in ships all the time, but i love the time based skill progression, and the ability to learn ANYTHING so as to customise you character how you want.

One thing i LOVED in wish was the spawning and movement of mobs - and the fact that you only knew beforehand the aggresiveness of the mobs - NOT their power. So every battle with something new is a risk you are taking.. I also loved how mobs would co-operate and team up on attackers.

And the crafting - truly awesome.

pity about the graphics and UI, which just seemed a little... old. Needed some more flashiness to grab people initial interest - and probably needed to add some more very low level content and direction for beginners. The lag was easily attributed to the fact this was a BETA on some test servers, and NOT a full stress test of the server.

A real shame to see it go :(

Who knows, i'll probably end up going to WoW <shrug> it was an easy and enjoyable game.... Right now i'm going back to play with morrowind a little.

Look at the screen's date before saying those stupide things .... => 2002. It was a screen from the alpha stage.

oh well, thats without armor. anyway, happy jerking image

I remember than in lineage2 many players were using a bad armor instead of a better one just because the bad one was looking better. Some people tired of the game were asking "hey i heard WoW is great, but how chars look? oh not so great ? damn, ill stick to lineage2 because my char look so good"

Its sad to see some games getting players by posting charracter a$$e$, but oh well ...

Well, the end 2004 image is definaly good graphics, azz shot or no azz shot.  Great graphics is great graphics.  It certainly doesn't make the game great, but if the game mechanics were great then great graphics would only make the game that much more immersive.  Concerning the uhhh human avatar body shots there... what will be impressive is how fluidly and natural the characters move when walking and running however.  It's one thing to have a human avatar looking so good or sexy in a still shot... but another if you see her actually run in the game and it looks as if she is constipated while running.  Impressive would be seing something look that good also move in the game in a natural motion where the hair blows more in the wind when running, where uhhh her breasts might actually naturally bounce while running (not the over-exageratted bounce either).  Time will tell with DnL.  Honestly, I think their promises are almost too good to be true at this stage of the mmo genre.  I have a bad feeling that DnL with either be dropped like Wish altogether, or when released, it will be another huge disappointment as EQ2 was to so many including myself.

    I hope it is all that it promises, I really do.  Time will reveal that answer.  {crosses fingers}

To answer the question of this thread, right now my eyes are on mext months promised release of Mourning, looks like a totally awesome all PvP game.  Reminds so much of Asherons Call (1) except sooo much better graphics.  Items can be lost when you die in PvP, whooo hooo.  Spells can be totally created and invented (remind anyone of the same when AC first came out with the spell economy?)  No downloads anywhere.. even in dungeons.  AC was seamless too, but it did download dungeon data as you were passing thru that big tunnel.  I dunno, I think Mourning may be the game I've been waiting a long time for.  An actual challenging game that offers PvP lovers what they want.  I'm going to go out on a limb and make an early prediction that "Mourning" will be the years biggest surprise hit and will do much better then anyone predicts.  My optimistic guess:  Morning 1 year after launch: 400,000 players due to word of mouth and a great, engaging game that the mmo genre hasn't seen in years.

Again, hehe... We will soon find out.  I'm probably wrong but hey I'm entitled to high hopes for one game too right?  ;)

I can guarantee you that over 80% of the things you read about DnL on the officials sites and more popular fan sites will be in the game.

    I say no more.

Also, if you're making fun of DnL's graphics, you need a brain surgery.

Dark and Light doesn't look great, doesn't sound too great (the game's premise, not audio), and I really dont know what all the hooplah is about. Sure its new, so I guess that's enough to create the people that are eagerly awaiting it. But from the sound of it, its another realm vs realm game that adds non-combat professions.

I'll likely buy and play it, just because its new, but I doubt it will be an earth-shattering game that dominates the market.

If I knew more about Tabula Rasa I'd be eagerly awaiting that one. I like the style/visuals and the sci-fi/fantasyness, but it could turn out to be just Lineage 2 in a different environment.

    Vanguard looks kinda nice.

Anyways, to answer the post, I wasn't waiting for Wish, but now that its gone I'll likely stick to the games I'm playing while eagerly awaiting Guild Wars.

I doubt I will be playing any MMORPGs now Wish is gone.. I got into the Wish beta on 2nd Jan not really knowing what to expect, and really loved it.

It's the exact antithesis of Guild Wars - which is what I want!

Guild Wars is great, but it's for the Diablo playing masses - I want hard core! Most new MMOs don't even live up to the best of the old MUDs in features Check out Discworld MUD to see what I mean. The feature list reads like a whos who of every MMORPG ever made, with bells on and it's not unusual for a MUD.

All the people saying Wish sucks need to take note that there were hundreds of people in game when the news broke about it being canceled - and the feeling in game was one of SHOCK! People were enjoying their game..

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it sucks. :P

Err I seem to have wandered off topic - I won't be playing any MMORPGs until someone does something fresh at the hardcore end of the market, such as Wish would have been.

I haven't, as I am not anticipating the game or looking into it much to satiate that non-existant anticipation.

  • XzaroXzaro Member UncommonPosts: 1,719

Then may I ask you why in the world are you flaming the game here? If you're not interested in it at all, and don't even bother reading up about it?

Well, that's another person who flames for no reason away from our DnL community, even better ::::02::

It's easy to say DnL offers nothing new when you agree you haven't read up on it at all.

And to the original poster, it's "now"... the word is "now".

Only can say the final beta for wow has started right in time for europe. I was playing Wish Beta 2.0, then as soon as the final beta of wow started I tried that and while downloading the installer I played Eve Online. then whe I wanted to start Wish yesterday I couldn't connect, and on the link to the forum there was a link telling it was closed down. A pitty for sure, the livecontent was looking good and the game improved rappedly in beta for the week I have played and you had the feeling the devs cared about what you said and took note of your oppinions and suggestion to make it better.

Due to all the server problems I never even got past the tutorial in Wish so can't really comment on the game but movement was a bit poor in my very brief try and menus a bit over-complicated. I'll just carry on playing mainly UO with a bit of EQ2. Graphics don't make a game in my opinion (obviously, I play UO!), DnL looks nice and I'm interested in Tabula Rasa just because of Richard Garriot. But just look to the list to the left of released games and games in development. There's a hell of a lot of games there and only so many MMOG players (and there £££$$$) and hours in the day to play them. There's going to be a lot of casualties I think. Can't see many of them releasing a 7th Anniversary version.
