Am I the only one this thread reminded of "Jack Handy?"  (Deep Thoughts...)

Edit: nm, that was a crappy radio skit here in my local area by a guy named Nugget or Nuggstradamas as he so liked to be called...

The reason people believe the Mayan calendar predicts the worlds end is, as a poster pointed out, the long count coming to an end in 2012. Many believe this will mark an era in the sense of the previous 4 eras of men in Mayan mythology, the Popol Vuh describes only two. In each of these the gods create diferent sorts of men (clay, wood, giants, monkeys) only to find them sinful and destroy them at the end in some apocalyptic manner. We are suposed to be made of corn and awaiting for our turn.

WOW will never die, it will become self aware if it isnt already. At some point all WOW zombies will be placed in position and aid the attack on mankind.

    Just to make things clear...

    What?!  Mayans said so

    no..no they dont.

Ok, their calendar supposedly does...but still.

Who's to say they just didn't get tired of keeping up with it? Or maybe the guy that did it just died and no one had interest in becoming a successor?

And for the topic, it'll be the game that comes out that allows you to start at the level cap with a full set of the top gear available, with a mount, house, 1 million in gold starter kit, and the ability to "pwn" anything and everything to avoid any potential unhappiness.

The way MMO's have been heading as of late, it's not far off the mark from being reality really.

Maybe they just decided that if humans are still around then, we would be smart enough to make our own calendar =P.

Or that they were just a bunch of fanatical warmongering nutjobs?

To the point... WoW has became something that virtually can't die. Ever. You know why? Because people will keep returning to it, since "everyone I know plays it". And new people will get into it, not other games, because of the same thing.

    Case closed.

I hate WoW because it made my plush hamster kill himself, created twin clones of Hitler, punched Superboy Prime in reality, stared my dog down, spoiled my grandmother, assimilated me into the Borg, then made me into a real boy, just to make me a woman again.

Ok, now I regret ever have brought up the Mayan calendar, even if it was a joke. It's getting silly and out of hand.

So you think that wouldnt imply racism? or i shouldnt be ofended that someone refers like that to the people of my country? FYI the Mayans are very much alive and kicking...

he is referring to the past people of your country not the current.  Even though it was a wrong accusation considering the mayans were brilliant. He isn't saying anything racist, ignorant wackjob would have sufficed. If a white dude calls a black guy stupid it doesn't make him racist and vice versa.

So should I get offended every time Russians are portrayed negatively, or when anyone says, that Ivan The Terrible was a fanatical warmorgering nutjob?

    Huh.

I understand your point although i must admit not to wholeheartedly agree. Implying certain atributes when these are asociated to negative stereotypes could be considered a sort of "loaded" insult. For obvious reasons i cant provide examples.

I do apologize to other posters.

No MMO is going to kill WoW.  The only thing WoW players love is WoW, and there's no company that's going to "out-WoW" Blizzard.  They've had too much of a head start.  A few have tried, all failed.

It would take 150 million in development funds and 2 years with a staff of a thousand.  Nobody has that much in resources to risk on a game.

From talking with my WoW-playing friends, Aion came pretty close.  But still, its not enough for people who LOVE WoW to leave it.
