unlike what seems like everyone else in the world, I don't sit around and wait for games to fail. I play what i want when i want and i don't care what anyone says.
Oh, I forray into other games all the time, How ever they have never held the same signifcance as wow has.
Like if I get a good piece of endgame loot in lotro, it doesn't feel the same as getting something in wow. It's like windows, It may be worse than Mac but since everyone uses it, it's better.
This is why the MMORPG genre is currently in a state of flux. He's hoping for developers to realizing the status quo sucks and someone with some money needs to innovate rather than repeat and develop a whole nother level. This genre has been stuck for 5 years.
Why would you wait for WoW to fail, based on older games longevity something like WoW could still be around in 10 years. It could also still be the top mmo in the next 3-5.
Even when WoW gets old blizzard can/will just release new titles, starcraft mmo, starcraft5, diablo6, WoW2.0 etc etc. Not to mention their new MMO their working on.
Blizzard / Activision is only competing with themselves at this point (numbers wise). After diablo and starcraft come out they could control 80% of the online gaming market at any given time.

I'm not waiting for Wow to totally fail, just be overtaken by a more popular game. The best thing that could happen would be that the mmo population would be spread evenly between multiple titles.
mm no chance of wow dying for at least 3 years ,just next year there will be cataclysm so everyplayer that ever played wow will be back when cataclysm lunch,no mather the amount of wishfull hope or whinning here will do anything about the fact that wow
is popular only the number 2 spot is avail for the grab
I switched to Lord of the Rings Online from wow cause Blizzard is doing a good job at ruining there own game. Tyvm Bliz. Hello Turbine your the new god of MMO's.
What I want has nothing to do with WoW. It can exist forever as far as I'm concerned. I played it, it was fun for a while, but it has changed, and my tastes have changed, and I just need something new.
I haven't really found it yet, to be honest. I've found a few that I enjoy the same way I enjoyed WoW, but nothing out there that really does it for me.
There are some good possiblities on the horizon, however. Star Trek could have some fun in it... an unlimited amount of procedurally generated worlds to explore is very appealy. Star Wars TOR... duh, it's Star Wars and it's from BioWare. Secret World... maybe funcom has learned some lessons... this one certainly has some originality and offers something new. Mortal Online.. if they can get their act together, it could work.
Nothing WoW does, or doesn't do, has to effect me, and I pay it little thought.

Wow was great, and still is. How ever, for the past year and a half, I have greatly toned down the amount of time I spend playing the game since I am simply bored of it. Nothing, short of a sequel can rejeuvenate how it felt when I first started playing. I'm simply waiting for another game to come out to topple it. I'll continue playing it since it's where all the people are, but the moment it's clear that the population is going somewhere else, I'll be gone.
Anyone else have similar feelings?
So you continue to play WOW because its popular even though your bored ? So no matter what game in the future gets more subs than WOW its the one you will go to? Yes folks, it has fallen to this.
I could not give a rats ass if and when WOW gets overtaken nor do I care if it never gest overtaken. I like the game and I play it amongst others and whilst I know its not everyones type of game, I personally think it has done a lot to raise mass interest in the MMO market and that has played a significant part in raising the genre as a whole.
More interest in the market has brought more investment and even though that brings in multiple crap clone cash ins (as in the history of every other genre), there are some excellent alternatives too.
So, imo, good on you Blizzard and I hope you are successful for a long time to come and continue to invest in great games (MMO's and otherwise) - same goes for SOE amd the other major houses.
You're going to be waiting a long, long time. So why wait at all? Why do you wish it to fail? If anything I hope other companies learn from Blizzards example and start producing better games. Games not based on WoW, but based on how Blizzard made WoW a success.
Sure, they are lot's of people waiting around for WoW to be overtaken... and they're all stupid.
Really, how pathetic do you have to be to care? I enjoy my niche games, and don't give a crap that they are niche. I enjoy WoW and don't give a crap that it's popular. My enjoyment is not affected by a games relative popularity to WoW, my enjoyment of WoW isn't even affected by the relative popularity of WoW.
I have nothing to gain or lose by WoW being overtaken. And neither do you.
I dont really care what happens to WoW. Blizzard has done a great job of picking a target audience and making a quality game for that audience. Grats casual gamers!
What I am waiting around for is someone to make a challenging game with death penalties, integrated PvP, limited instancing, skill-based character advancement, player run economy, full player crafted gear (mobs drop materials but not armor/weapons) , player housing/player cities, and content for the soloer, the 6 man group, 20 man group and 50 man raid.
I've been playing WoW for 5 years now and yeah, I'm waiting for it to eventually die. I'm waiting for it to be succeeded by a new game that improves on the sky-high standard that Blizzard have set while retaining it's core concepts.
It's not that I want WoW to die; I just want to play the game that kills it.
Playing: EVE, Final Fantasy 13, Uncharted 2, Need for Speed: Shift
Why the need to wait for a game to be toppled? I don't play a game because it's #1 on the charts, I play because I enjoy it. When I stop having fun, I move elsewhere. So for me, I'm not waiting for WoW to be overtaken. It's making tons of people happy so they have a good fanbase.
I think all of us (Blizzard included) know, that WoW won't be toppled in a long time, because people keep[ returning to it, due to "all my friends are playing it", and new people getting in precisely because of that.
'nuff said. However, you can still enjoy the fact, that the rest of 'em are niche and you can have you little geekvanna, just like in old times.
It's easy actually. Imagine WoW as a gigantic Elephant. It's hard o ignore it, unless it's far away.
I hate WoW because it made my plush hamster kill himself, created twin clones of Hitler, punched Superboy Prime in reality, stared my dog down, spoiled my grandmother, assimilated me into the Borg, then made me into a real boy, just to make me a woman again.

Make it so...
WoW is a freak of nature. You will be waiting forever.

I'm waiting for players to stop talking about WoW all butt-hurt just because it's the most successful MMO.

I don't care if WoW is overtaken, numbers are not an indication of a good game or not.

WoW can only be overtaken by something similar, not something different. You should know that by now.
Blizzard = Alien Nation.... they tapped into our minds and grabbed everything we wanted out of a MMORPG! i hope some fker comes up with a new MMORPG!
there is something new
aion ,there was something new before that
war
before
aoc
etc,etc ,etc
but all player say is nope not that ,nope not that etcetcetc, some since you dont want the new game then go play wow and stop whining
I couldn't care less what happens to WoW. I am just waiting for companies to stop trying to be the next WoW by copying it.
