Give Aion a chance! Seriously, i know its a large grind near the max cap. But think about it, this game reuqires people with a giant determination and willpower to get through to level 50. So all you criers out there, give it a shot contiune to play and with a good determination and willpower you can reach high level.

Next patch will increase drastically many of the mid to top level quests exp reward so hopefully less whinings.
If they do something about bots and gold spam it would make it better for me.
I'm not playing Aion and haven't even tested it. But why should you have to have good determinatiion and willpower to play a game? Isn't games about enjoyment and relaxing after a hard day at work (or school)? Sure there must be challenges in the game, but why bore a lot of people when games are supposed to be fun?
Good point. Only thing I could tell you is fun is a matter of opinion. Some enjoy major challenges like difficult leveling. I'm having a great time, and I'm doing nothing but sitting back, relaxing and talking to friends in vent. It only requires willpower and determination if you make it out to be that way. My tip would be, find a friend you know in person or a friend in game to play with. Makes this game very enjoyable.
Nothing against you since it something I prefer but I'd rather do something challenging (mind didn't say hard as hell) rather then easy mode at least I get some gratification after doing it plus if the combat animation/system is good it's better.
I'm not saying that level cap shoudl come quickly; hell, I wouldn't mind an infinite level cap, but leveling should be fun. Killing thousands of monsters non-stop is not fun, just for what? To gain a level? For what? The game needs purpose every step of the way, and it needs to be fun, every step of the way. I'm not saying any other MMO's have got it right either, but AION seriously fails in the fun department. You shouldn't need determination and willpower to play a GAME! Games are meant to be fun. Sure, challenge is also desired in a game, or else the game gets boring. But grinding 1k mobs to get the next level is not a challenge. In fact, it's the opposite of challenge. It's being forced to do something so unchallenging, you bore yourself with combat that would otherwise be fun. Combat in AION was fun for a while, until the game wore me out on it by making me repeatedly kill creatures for xp to gain a level. I'll give you 3 scenarios, and you tell me which you prefer.
1. Stand in one area, kill 1 thousand mobs to gain the next level. Basically, pressing 1,2, the chain ability, 3, 1 of 2 chain abilities, 4, and then back to 1 and so on for 1 thousand mobs. Hours of grinding in other words.
2. This NPC tells you that the wolf population is out of control, and if you don't cull it, the nearby town will be in danger. Kill 100 wolves and bring back their tails. By the way, the tails have a .001% chance drop rate.
3. The town has all pitched money to reward the adventurer who rescues the children that were taken by Krall to be slaves. They took them to a well guarded fort. It doesn't matter how you rescue these children, it just matters that they all return alive. Your bonus xp for completing the mission depends on how many children are killed. You will need a key to unlock their cells, which is on one of the guards or guard captains, or you could pick the lock if you have the ability, or you can try using magic or strength to break the lock. By the way, did I mention the fort is well guarded and has a full company of Krall soldiers, who are battle tested and hungry for a fight?
Assuming that it takes the same amount of time to finish all 3 of the above, which of the 3 would be more entertaining and meaningful to you? This is where AION fails. The majority of their quests, if not all, are meaningless tasks that a Daeva has no business doing. You're only alternative is to grind like a mindless drone. Simply put, the game is fun while you're learning your class and the game, but after that it is plain boring.
Sorry, my giant determination and excessive willpower are reserved for things that really matter such as my career and my relationships in the real world.
A meaningless game? Not so much...not even close.

Did you know when you group up and are killing regular mobs, you get half the xp for that mob that you'd normally get? So you're working twice as hard for the enjoyment to play with 1 other person, and the quests are finished that much faster.

Yet I kill mobs twice as fast, I fail to see your point. ( I group with one person)

My only experience with grouping for quests is when we all join up and are doing our own thing. So basically we're getting half the credit for kills and doing the same amount of work. Maybe you have 1 person to play the game with who is always on the same quest you are and is always willing to do that quest with you, but most people don't have that luxury. Not to mention, you didn't address the point of finishing the quests faster than was intended, leaving you with more levels to grind than would have been necessary if you were solo. In WoW, I could understand double teaming solo quests, because mob xp was trivial, yet quest xp was great. There was also more quests in the game than there was xp needed to reach max level.
If you don't know anybody advertise the quest(s) so you can group for them. Most people I have meet in this game have a leveling partner, through real life or they meet in the game. It's up to them to stick around the same quests. Which is why I said to do this an option.
Most of the quests are not hunt quests, they are more so item collection quests. So we have to kill twice as many mobs to collect the items off the mobs for both of us, so It evens out.

The 1. would be the most entertaining. No question about it. Because you don't have to think. And while you are playing you can chat, surf on the Internet, listen to music, watch some movies, eat some pizza, do your homework, talk with your wife and do a lot of other stuff.
I'm not complaining about the grind, but then I've played L2 (never got to the top) so Aion seems much better in that regard.
Is it slower that some other games? Yep. Is that bad? To some folks sure, but I don't really mind.
Of course, I'm only level 17 or so on 2 characters, wait till I'm in the 30's and grinding it out, might just change my mind.

What's the point of playing the game if you need other things to keep you entertained?
It's not the huge grind which bothers me. The thing is what am I going to do at lvl50.
I'm sorry I dont' want to spend another 100 hours farming abyss point since I just don't like pvp much.
I'm not sure if the pve will keep me entertain.
Most MMOs I played, there was some point where you would eventually hit a brick wall of boredom. SWG pre-cu grinding mobs, terminal missions for me meant throw on some music or watch tv while doing it. WoW Instances/questing music or movies, I actually need music for PvP. Aion is really no different, you fill those boring areas with somethin to help you get through it.
I understand it's a ridiculous thing, but what are you going to do? This is exactly why I'm looking forward to 2010, seems to be a bunch of games releasing with interesting content. I'm sure there will be points where you wanna put on some music or watch some TV to get past the grind parts of the game, but it will be rare.
In other words, it means that you can't have human will power or mind of determination because the game is not ergonomic for human brain, arms, and fingers. It's BOT game.
They surely are!
And what I find relaxing with Aion is that I don't have to race to the top. Because most of the players are playing the same pace I'm playing and every level feels like an accomplishement.
To take this into the game world, I'm pretty glad I don't have to build new equipment set every day (because of the slow levelling).
I want to buy you a beer in thanks for these wise words.
until the game wore me out on it by making me repeatedly kill creatures for xp to gain a level.
To what level did you play again?
I'm lvl29 now and haven't had that kind of moment yet. It might be because I gather and craft too, but still.
I am hoping that ncsoft west come out with the exp patch, I am having fun at level 41 but im already feeling a litle burn out. I am not even sure i can hit server first level 50 on my server as cleric.
Are you playing patch 1.5 in the US server? Since I think the exp patch is for 1.6.
my guess is if 1.5 isn't out on the US server, it'll take a while before they added in the exp boost.
I am from the USA server side not eu.
How is grinding NOT relaxing?

And that's exactly why I don't really play MMOs anymore. The genre is over 10 years old and the developers still haven't figure out how to do away with the boring parts.
In my opinion, grinding was OK in the very first MMO's like UO and EQ but nothing newer. It's just an easy way out for developers. Don't need to make any content, just drop a few mobs all over the place.
Games out less then a month and people are already nearing 50, Not that bad of a grind. Any game that you can hit max lvl in less then a month isn't horribly bad. The bad part is the way you get there in Aion. But it's a game from Asia, what game from there isn't a grind to lvl at some point.
